    Nice!! One bit of feedback for you - after a bird strike you should leave the flaps out for them to be inspected for debris before retracting 👍 avoids a potential jam

    How is ground handling, and take off? i bought pmdg 737, but ground handling is still quite off feels to sensitive, and during take off plane feels light and climbs like a rocket.

      Had this question a few times, no issues with any sensitivity. Feels fine for me :)

    Never understood the civvy thrust lever to idle on engine failure - in the military a/c I flew we would move thrust lever full forward on failed engine! Too many instances on overwhelmed pilots moving wrong lever to idle after engine failure on multi-engine aircraft. One example is USAF C-5 crash where they did that - so essentially tried to fly the approach on 2 engines and crashed....never noticed they had one engine not going and one sitting at idle. It also gets the lever out of the way.

    • @CJModiano
      @CJModiano 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In civilian aviation, we don't do it either. In GA, it's throttle props mixture full forward, flaps up gear up, then identify and verify with the thrust slowly when you are stable and have the time to do so. In the Airbus 320, the thrust lever isn't retarded until deeper into the checklist, after you've stabilized the plane, gone through the QRC, and are then going through the ECAM actions. There's no instance where you just immediately retard the failed engine. That's just youtube stuff from non professional enthusiasts. This guy did a lot of random stuff that he wasn't supposed to do, including blowing the bottles for a failed engine. On short final no less. If this happened in real life, we'd just land the plane and not do anything else until on the ground. Not shitting on the guy, he did a good job and had a nice landing, but he's just a kid who, I'm guessing, is not type rated in this plane.

      You go to idle initially as part of the shutdown. Then after everything was done, at AA at least, we operated the inop throttle along with the others, as a precaution against just that C-5 situation (they left the wrong throttle at idle). When I was off flying C-5's on the weekends, I used the AA procedure there as well, although it was not, strictly speaking, the Lockheed procedure. Call it technique!

    • @CJModiano
      @CJModiano 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@anthonyvallillo422 interesting. I suppose that’s due to the amount of ex mil people writing the books at AA. I’m JetBlue and once the ECAM has us idle the the lever, we just leave it there. We use both reversers though.

    • @DC-bf3fj
      @DC-bf3fj 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thrust lever position has many effects on the A320, engine failed or not. Selecting TOGA would initiate goaround mode and make a real mess of your plans.

    • @anthonyvallillo422
      @anthonyvallillo422 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CJModiano The Airbus may be different. But when I flew the A-300 we did the same thing - once the engine is secure, move that throttle with the others. As I said, it is to prevent the situation of having idled a good engine instead of the bad one. Look up that C-5 crash at Dover AFB a decade or so ago. It is interesting. AA has a lot of those Airbusii now - it would be interesting to see what their procedure is today.

    1:00 try DCS's F-14... this one seems real good, but I seriously doubt it can scratch the surface of what the F-14 team has done
    but it's not to bring shade to this one, I just feel every sim pilot should try the DCS F-14, it's like... 6 years of pure love poured into that thing. Complete insanity.

    • @jonFezza
      @jonFezza  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, let’s look at it. down an engine. Would you really want to go around, think of how bad the climb performance would be. Obviously if you had a first officer you could easily of completed it in less than a minute

    • @bikeguy3034
      @bikeguy3034 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jonFezza Generally you would indeed go around and then hold at safe altitude by airport and assess the situation, ensure all other systems are still operating correctly, plan the appropriate approach and landing given the state of the aircraft....and calculate if you can still even land and stop in the length of runway you have now you only have one reverser, maybe you need to dump some fuel (extra reserve/divert fuel) to get a bit lighter as you know you can land at your planned airport, just to ensure a safe landing and stop...do you even still have brakes or spoilers? Have emergency services been notified and are they in position at the airfield? Lots of considerations.
      What you don't do is just carry on and cowboy it straight in for an approach landing and hope for the best lol - no offense meant :) I know 'just land your plane as fast as possible' sounds like a safe option...it isn't. You want to be 100% sure (or as close as you can reasonably be) that you can safely land the aircraft. You had no requirement to make an immediate emergency landing such as fire etc - a/c can easily fly on one engine at landing weights for as long as you have fuel and everything keeps working.
      Hope that helps - just views from ex AF aircrew :)
