ANY striker from Premier League or any top division side would score 50. There are some people who think that Portugal are a better team without Cristiano Ronaldo and they have a better chance of winning the EUROs if he starts on the bench while others believe that he should start. The loss to Croatia wasn’t entirely because of his absence, I think that despite the plethora of attackers that they have, he’ll start when everyone is healthy. What Roberto Martinez has to do with Ronaldo during this tournament is manage his game time. The reason for that is because he’s 39 years old and while you expect him to start, he shouldn’t start every game and when he does, he shouldn’t finish 90+ minutes every time and in some games they should rely on him to come off the bench and bring him on when they need a goal. You can’t fully rely on him every minute of every game in this tournament. He’s not the player that he used to be and a lot of people will say that “at the age of 39, he scored 50 goals in 50 games and that means that he’s their best attacking option”, that’s good, but the guy is doing it in Saudi Arabia where it’s not as competitive as other top European leagues and we’ll see if he can do the job in an international competition.
He was benched at the last World Cup and his replacement scored a hat trick the first game they dropped him, he’s in a better state for this EUROs than he was at the World Cup 2 years ago. Don’t rule out the possibility of him being the top scorer of the tournament, if there’s a game where Portugal are up 2-1 and are trying to hold onto a lead and want to defend, that’s where I would take Ronaldo off because he won’t have the work rate to track back meaning that he’ll be leaving the team vulnerable playing 10v11 and in a game where they should be able to easily win in, I wouldn’t play him, the only time he would come on is when they’re losing and need 2-3 goals to win. There are certain situations where Portugal should and shouldn’t play Ronaldo and it’s a matter of preference and the style of team they’re playing against, if you go up against a team that’s gonna sit back for 90 minutes, that’s a game Ronaldo should play because Portugal in the wide positions will be wanting to play the ball in the box to him and find him at all costs because he is a poacher and he knows how to get goals, but if you’re up against an energetic and possession based team that’s gonna have the ball for most of the game and constantly run up and down and press without the ball, that’s wheee I would drop Ronaldo because when Portugal doesn’t have the ball, he’s going to be a passenger and he won’t cover or help his teammates without possession.
The man is the best striker in the world who had a 50 goals 15 assist year with 10 goals & 2 assist being from the EUROS Qualification rounds already & he has also won the golden boot, & was best player of the season just to name a few of the accolades etc. etc. Who in Portugal is any where near to that, can say we don't need him on the pitch. Only someone that sick in the head would bench the best player by every stat & measure leads by leaps & bounds in which age has nothing to do with it, it only point out how much more outstanding he is

Had he played against Switzerland they would have won easily as well. Ronaldo had scored a brace against them just a couple of months prior. They didn't start him against Morocco and paid the price. Even the Moroccan coach was grateful for Fernando Santos's stupidity. Their defense no longer had to worry about Ronaldo and could be more brave going forward.
