    Brian said that Freddie had a metronome in his head. He had great musicality. His piano playing was not just playing keys but feeling the passion of the music. When Freddie was at school in India he would go to his aunt's house during holidays. She noticed he had musical talent and asked for him to be given piano lessons. He went to Grade 4 and joined a band at school. He never sang in the band, just played piano. He quit lessons because he wanted to play his own music, not someone else's. Brian also took piano to Grade 4. They all play multiple instruments and all wrote hit songs. I don't think any of them would have been nearly as successful without the other 3. Interviewers would always call Freddie the leader of the band and he would quickly correct them saying that he is only the lead singer and all four are equal members. They were brothers and had each others backs. Under Pressure at Wembley 1986 shows Roger Taylor's skills at singing with Freddie who originally duetted with Bowie. White Queen at Hammersmith 1975 has a gorgeous duet between Brian's guitar and Freddie's piano.

    He played piano better than most and could play ANYTHING - he never went small 💪

    All four members could play multiple instruments & all were in the Songwriters Hall of Fame individually. Funny how Freddie didn’t think he played the piano that well!

    Freddie took piano lessons for several years at boarding school. He could listen to a song once and play it himself. He had a "classical" style according to Brian who also had piano lessons. When he and Montserrat met at Garden Lodge to work on their album, according to Montserrat, he asked her what her favorite song was and played that classical song for her beautifully and they sang and he played the piano until 6 a.m. Freddie loved opera, and since he had years of formal training,went to opera and ballet theater often, and could play whatever he heard, he could compose for their operatic album with no problem. There are several beautiful pieces on that Album:"Barcelona" that I think you would enjoy. That album was one of 2 created without Queen. The title song was written and used for the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. Queen was also featured in the London Olympics and the Tokoyo Olympics "Teo Torriatte"

    Check out White Queen live at the Hammersmith 1975 to appreciate Freddie’s piano skills, he was an incredibly gifted pianist.

    I love this performance and a few other liver performances of this song. Freddie and Roger make it different every time. If you haven't done White Queen live at Odeon, Hammersmith 1975, that is a live performance you will definitely not want to miss. The vocals the instrumentals are mind blowing. It is nearly impossible to believe that it is live. Thank you for your reaction.

    Freddie began studying piano at age 7 and continued studying through the Practical Piano Grade 4. He was a natural pianist and though he never learned to read music, he could play anything he heard (he played by ear).

    According to the interviews I've listened to and the articles I've read everybody loved Freddie, he was a very funny, generous, loving and caring guy, a brilliant musician and a performer from the top to the toes. Besides, they were a very tight knit group, they highly appreciated each-other's talent. Freddie who was an untrained singer could compose in any genre and could sing anything effortless. Pls, check out Fat Bottomed Girls at Milton Keynes 82.

    Great reaction but I second previous comments, the rest of the band contributed equally as much to their performance, Brian’s magnificent solos, Roger’s outstanding vocals & John’s bass playing! Yes Freddie was unique but Queen were 4 equal contributors! More Queen pls, love from Australia 🇦🇺

    My favorite Queen song!! Penned by Freddie & rumored to be his favorite composition as well. Every live version of this song is unique! Queen’s sentiment was if you wanted to hear a replica of the studio version then stay home & listen to their record. My fave live version of Somebody To Love is from Milton Keynes 1982. 🔥🔥

    No Freddy Mercury has had piano lessons since he was a young kid. But he had no vocal coaching no guitar lessons nothing. Only the piano lessons. He is amazing 😮🎉😮

    Agree with MrPicard91. Roger's singing is fab. You need to appreciate all of Queen. There are 4 people in that band.

    I'm glad you're enjoying Queen. They are/were one of a kind. Freddie is my absolute favorite frontman of all time. If you don't mind me requesting Under Pressure Live at Wembley (the 5:56 minute version -- his interaction with the crowd is amazing), White Queen live at the Odeon and Another One Bites the Dust live at Wembley.

    Freddie took piano lessons until he was 9. He could play anything by ear, even other artists’ work. So no, that isn’t true about the piano. He chose in later performances to have someone else play the piano parts so he could move around on stage, his true love--performing. I did like your reaction, though. He makes me smile and cry at the same time. Love Freddie and all the members of Queen, so talented…

    I wonder where you learned that, i.e., 'learned just enuf piano for the songs he wanted to create; HARRUMPH! He stopped lessons having discovered his innate ability - but continued to be self-taught . . . always broadened every skill he had.

    • @ShawnSalvadori
      @ShawnSalvadori  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I was confused and the person who left the comment was actually talking about Freddie playing the guitar, not piano 😅

    New subscriber here simply because of that reaction! Freddie was BEYOND brilliant, BEYOND the best performer, BEYOND the greatest frontman ever, BEYOND an amazing musician and songwriter, BEYOND an amazing out-of-this-world vocalist. He was almost BEYOND human somehow. He was way too good for this world. The good die too young. As far as live Queen performances. Just pick one. The studio versions are amazing, but seeing the guys perform them live is just mind-blowing. But here’s a list to get you started (lol): BoRhap Live in Budapest 1986(I think), Save Me, Love of My Life and Another One Bites the Dust all live in Montreal 1981, Under Pressure, Its A Kind of Magic, One Vision, I Want to Break Free, Another one Bites the Dust (again-its worth it) and Love of My Life (again-its worth it) all live at Wembley, We Will Rock You live in Rio, and one thats not live but worth checking out is a Freddie solo, “In My Defence” which is, to me, Freddie’s greatest vocal performance of all. Great reaction! Please do more Queen/Freddie soon!!! Love it!!

    My very first rock concert was Queen in '76, front center row 9. Was such a fan before that but that took it way up a notch. The 70s were such a great era for rock.
    As for Freddy in particular when he died it was such a loss and still miss him.

    P.S. I think I might be in love with Roger Taylor (drummer)!❤❤❤❤

    Freddie took both piano and guitar lessons when he was a child, sticking with the piano longer than the guitar. Although he never considered himself to be a "good" piano player, the rest of the band disagreed with that.

    HI SHAWN, I HAVE A REQUEST….
    SOMETIME, COULD YOU PLEASE ALSO REACT TO:
    “SOMEBODY TO LOVE”
    LIVE AT MILTON KEYNES BOWL IN 1982
    …IT’S TOTALLY. DIFFERENT. THAN THE MONTREAL VERSION.
    (And even though it’s lesser-known, the Milton Keynes rendition is actually the one that is included in Queen’s official compilation of Best Live Performances.)🙏

    You have just watched THE greatest live performance of ANY song EVER. Everything else pales. It's the epitmony. Everything is downhill from this. Queen live is amazing, but it doesn't get any better than this

  • @hkynuts11
    @hkynuts11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The performance at Milton Keynes May be better than this. Just because you have heard a Queen song does not mean you have HEARD a Queen song.

    Thank you for your great reaction. I suggest that you check also the version of somebody to love at milton keynes bowl 92. I'm sure you will more appreciate his performance. and also Love of my life at Rock in Rio 85. I will assure you that you will never be disappointed. Freddie is such an amazing singer and total performer. Queen is the best band ever. Thank you and stay safe.

    Great reaction. By the way, you just don't "learn enough piano" to play some specific songs. You learn or you don't and looking at him go, i think he was pretty good at it.

  • @laurenraubaugh9542
    @laurenraubaugh9542 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Not sure where you heard that about the piano... Freddie wasn't super-confident in his piano abilities (likely because he was a perfectionist), but he's received nothing but praise from everyone else, including other musicians! He took lessons as a child and was a wonderfully gifted player. He played a bit of guitar, too, and I think that's what you might be remembering when it comes to the extent of his learning being for songs alone - he played the more basic chords, and sometimes wrote songs with the guitar (such as "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"). He didn't often show off the extent of his piano talent live (and he hated not standing on stage and interacting with the crowd, so eventually - by the mid-80s - Queen had another player come and assist Freddie so he could be free to work the audience. Brian (Queen's guitarist who could **also** play piano) always said Freddie was like a "human metronome" on the keys with an impeccable sense of timing. Check out "White Queen" live at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1975 to see an absolutely brilliant musical interlude from the whole band; Freddie really lets go on piano, too. He might not have been at the Elton John or Billy Joel level when it came to piano, but he was pretty close!
