      Hi Brian. Your videos are fantastic! I'm currently doing the rear axle seals on my 04 Explorer. I'm having difficulty getting the seals to seat without going in crooked. The Ford tool you used to drive in the seals in the video looks like it might do the trick. Does anyone sell that tool online that you are aware of, or is there an alternative that will work just as well? Thanks again for the excellent and informative videos. Your know-how is among the best of the mechanics I've seen on youtube!

      Do you have a part number for the tool you used to knock the seal back in? I'm replacing the entire center section with a junkyard one & while it's out I want to put all new seals in it. I figured this is the best & easiest time to do it. Also the front seal where the drive shaft is, is that hard to replace?

    Good work man, there's no easy way to do this job, I'm in the middle of doing my rear bearings and diff seals as well as the input bearing and seal, fun fun fun. These seals are why my local salvage yards are FULL of these trucks. The seals quietly go bad and boom, you smoke the diff. The repair is more than the value of the truck at that point...almost as if that was the plan, but I digress. Give me a live rear axle any day. Again...nice job

    Thanks for the great video, just helped me get the same (left rear) CV axle out of my 2004 Explorer Eddie. Took a few more hits then yours, but it did come out. I'm replacing mine because the other end is stuck in the hub and won't come out. I was replacing the entire spindle assembly, so it wasn't too big a deal that I had to replace the CV axle, I just didn't know it would be so easy to be quite honest. Of course I wouldn't have known how to do it easily without your great videos, many of which have helped me with my Explorer, which can be a challenge to maintain.

    Hi Brian, I freaking love you and your videos! I live in Sweden where Ford SUVs are kinda unusual and its hard to find a decent mechanic that won't charge you millions even for the most simple things. I have an 06 Expedition and you have saved me a bunch of money over the past few years, thank you! Now I seem to have the exact same problem as the Explorer in this video but I can't find an instruction for my particular vehicle, is the operation similar or do I need to get into the differential to get the axel out?

    Can you talk more about filling the diff to the proper level. I stuck a wire down into the hole where the bolt is and the bolt went to no where. I tried pumping oil in the diff and it wen of the side and I let fluid gravity drain in there and it did not go in either.

  • @kmil1967
    @kmil1967 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I cant thank you enough for this detailed video!!! Seriously your video was the first that I finally found after searching for months due to my axle was not ceding into the differential after having a reputable shop replaced my right rear cv axle due to issue at the wheel end yet when I got it back i kept hearing a noise and after jacking it up it was now an issue with the shaft backing itself out of the rear differential end vs the initial problem...so I take it back to reputable shop they recharge me to put a new axle in again, and its doing the same thing and in the process of this, the day I left their driveway I heard a loud humming sound and the trailing arms on both sides now need to be replaced!!! So now your video even tho, this is a ford explorer it is comparable somewhat to my 2005 Chevy Equinox so now I see that the axle seal definitely I will assume is the issue of why the 2nd axle would not cede into the rear differential and possibly they did not turn it while installing either axle bc Im on axle 3 now but have the replacement but unfortunately not the OEM, and i know that it was leaking the fluid out due to condition which makes me think my fluid level is low, so that will also be completely drained and replaced !!! Again thanks for this informal video

    Is the additional pint added through the ABS sensor hole part of a service addendum? According to the 2008 factory workshop manual DVD, it just calls for filling to the bottom of the filler hole.

    • @FordTechMakuloco
      @FordTechMakuloco  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct 2007 and newer models you fill to the bottom of the plug threads, 2002-2006 you follow this fill procedure.

    • @swp466

      I should have clarified that in the 2008 DVD, the procedure for the 2003-2005 is shown as filling to the bottom of the filler hole (I didn't check later years).

      @@FordTechMakuloco got one today part number 7L1z-4a109-b I appreciate all your videos they are all I use 90% of the time. May buy a 2nd before I reinstall the half shafts. I couldn’t find another Ford one local have you ever used a national seal kinda want to replace both so I don’t have to take the suspension apart again.
