  • Toyota might be the benchmark when it comes to quality and business execution, but Nissan has an edge in the areas of design, charisma, and even performance. This is especially evident when reviewing the 2021 Nissan Sentra SR with a rare manual option - it's definitely more fun to drive than the Toyota Corolla. Nissan's Sentra SR is available as a manual transmission car only in Canada unfortunately.

Nissan cars are usually well designed with better interiors but their reliability is usually questionable.

The CVTs from 2006-2019 were problematic, the NISSAN engines are solid. 2020 and up CVTs are better......

@@christianmarpa8907 Yes so much better than risking a cvt belt breakign, and more fun to drive if your not in horrible traffic all the time

I loved your review David. It loved the fact that you talked about pain, panels, gaps, and interior quality, etc. There are tons of car reviews on youtube these days but all look like same. Your review was something else and totally different from other car reviews. I would love to see more car reviews from you.
    Thanks David.

I had a 2009 Yaris with manual, it was so much fun...just simply because it was manual.

It for sure looks better than a Toyota Corolla, but I just would go Toyota Corolla sorely for the reliability factor. Not saying Nissan is not a reliable, but if the purpose is to her to point A to B the Toyota Corolla is the winner. Is this segment honestly the Honda Civic is the best choice. It is the best looking one and it’s also very reliable.

I’ll say it. Nissan is NOT reliable. Once they merged with Renault it had gone downhill😢

That is a nice looking car , but Corolla is more reliable .

Corolla is better, but for Sentra SR manual $23.900 and the Corolla SE manual $25.700 both with 18 inch rims/sunroof. I will take the Sentra which interior and exterior look better and those NISSAN engines are solid......

Yes for the first few years then the Corolla takes over because the Nissan will be broken down 😂 I still have my 1990 Corolla which was my first car.

I own 2022 Sentra SR manual, Pros are handling/braking, front/rear suspension, safety features, infotainment/speakers quality. Cons are gas consumption 10L/100km, rev hang, small space for cellphone in manual Sentra. Overall 8.0/10

I wish Nissan would bring the manual Sentra to the US. I own a 2022 Sentra with the CVT it’s not bad. I would prefer a manual.

My first car was a 96 Nissan Sentra. Got it when it had around 100000 miles. Drove it for almost 4 years without any major mechanical issues.

Nissan’s glory days in terms of quality. Had a 94 Maxima I drove for 23 years. Quality went off a cliff after that decade.

Interesting review on the “mini” Maxima-Sentra XR. Very sporty looking appearance. I’m partial to Toyota, but this will turn your head. I think the Corolla XSE is leaps and bounds ahead of past versions. It’s sad you have to pay premium money to get the cool car looks .
Only Sentra I ever drove was a 5-speed base 1985 model. Spent summer w relatives and getting to drive their new car was a trip. Easy and fun to drive 5 speed. Don’t think I ever missed a gear..LOL
Keep up the great work and reviews. Only by competition does the customer get a better vehicle!

I have driven a few rentals that were a Nissan Sentra. Granted that all of them were the CVT variant. The thing that bothered me the most on them was the fact that the engine seemed to be very coarse compared to the competition. The power was adequate for the type of vehicle and the fuel economy was fantastic. The interior felt like it was designed by a committee. The quality of the materials was dismal. Bear in mind this was probably 3-4 years ago. Hopefully this new Sentra has stepped up it's game. The ones I drove had potential but compared to the competition they weren't even close. Even before you consider the terrible reputation of Nissan CVT failure. Thanks for the video

I think if you are only keeping this Nissan for 50 thousand to 60 thousand miles this Sentra SR would be fine but in the long run it would not hold up like a Corolla. A manual Corolla would be very nice too. Looking forward to the Corolla Crossover.

Nissan has always been pretty good on styling. Especially the newest models and this Sentra is no exception... Actually its a huge improvement from the previous gen.. BUT... I cant stand driving Nissans.. I cant drive stick (I know.. sorry), so im only speaking on automatic. But ive driven the Murano, Rogue, Sentra and Altima... Hated every one of them. The driving experience sucks (probably has a lot to do with those CVT's), the handling was sub-par, the AWD in the Murano, Rogue and Altima were also surprisingly poor.. So ill just stick with Toyota and/or Honda.

I wonder why people always forget Mazda, they use geared automatic transmissions, Honda and Toyota also use CVT

If only Nissans were reliable; they are certainly the best looking Japanese cars, inside and out, imo, but their reliability has been in the sewers for years now. Having said that, most of their reliability woes are related to that CVT they insist on using in most of their cars, so maybe this manual Sentra wouldn't be so bad!

Looks aren’t everything. Nissan’s product quality has fallen off the cliff. Purchased a Sentra SV over the Corolla in 2020 because Toyota lacked Android Auto and the Sentra looked good. BIG mistake. So many problems within 5k miles. Thanks to the pandemics effect on pricing I was lucky enough to dump it and get a 21 Corolla. It’s solid as a rock and not one issue.
