Elvis was the most intereesting person i've ever seen. Every story i watch is great. He has been dead forty five years and he is still the person everyone wants to know about. thank you

I thoroughly enjoyed this little piece of history about two guys from quite humble beginnings who rose to the pinnacle of their very different careers and met for this brief moment in time....so amazing to me. I always learn something new from your honest, unfiltered reactions Rory. Thanks for doing this one.

You really should check out the incredible stories about when Elvis joined Denver police officers on a drug bust, amazing, simply amazing.

An intriguing aspect of the donut shop encounter is that Elvis let those guys know he wasn't to be trifled with but his innate charm & magnetism completely disarmed them (no pun intended?) & made them laugh.
Another thing to think about..if one of those guys had encountered Elvis separate from the group & told him he needed help for some reason, Elvis would've taken off one of those rings (worth thousands of dollars) & given it to him. He did that very thing on numerous occasions.
An example of this is given by the actor Bruno Kirby in a short video /interview that you should react to. It's right here on TH-cam, just put in "Bruno Kirby & Elvis".
It's a hilarious story but also very touching. Please react to it, Rory.
We'd love to rewatch it with you & see what you think.
As always, much love from Kentucky.

Thank you for this Rory. I have enjoyed watching this with you, it's not widely known by any other TH-cam reactors.
The only thing I would disagree with is that he took any drugs he could get his hands on. Elvis didn't even drink alcohol. He always had Dr Nick with him on tours who gave him medication that was a prescription drug. It was Elvis misusing those & Dr Nick to allow him to. He didn't do illegal drugs.
Thanks for all 3 parts of this interview 🙂

Elvis used the drugs when he needed to in order to keep the grueling schedule Parker had him on in Vegas and the concert tours. During vacations he'd stop taking them and work on getting back into shape. No one knew back then that prescription drugs could be addictive, that long term usage requires ever more drugs for the same effects, that on again/off again use was even more dangerous or what using combinations of drugs does to the body and personality. Elvis actually researched every drug thoroughly before taking them. He had what they used to call a Drug Bible. I don't know if they're around any more but it was a huge book that listed every prescription drug they made at the time with everything you needed to know about them. He was an avid reader and wanted to know everything but sadly even the doctors didn't know at the time... it was actually Elvis' death that sparked a lot of subsequent research and education concerning prescription drugs. So Elvis believed that the drugs he took were completely safe and it was nothing like taking illegal drugs in his mind, because they were prescribed.
It wasn't until after he died that the medical profession and the public began to really learn about the dangers of prescription drugs and that you can indeed get addicted to them. It's unfair to judge people in the past by what we now know or even by our values today. Elvis was totally against illegal drugs and alcohol, and was actually quite conservative and straight laced. He grew up in the 40s and 50s, not the 60s. There is a story about him smoking weed once but it certainly wasn't a regular thing. Drugs and alcohol were prohibited at Graceland. His mother was a heavy drinker and Elvis hated what it was doing to her. I personally think that if Elvis had known the dangers of the prescribed drugs he was taking, he would have never used them to begin with. Another thing that people don't know or leave out is that it was the military that gave him his first upper. They used to give them to soldiers in order for them to be able to stay up 24 hours for guard duty. Of course they told them it was perfectly safe. And since Elvis had always had insomnia, he also needed something to make him sleep. That's how his drug usage began. But he thoroughly researched each and every drug. Consequently he (falsely) believed he knew what he was doing. And that it was OK because it was prescribed by a doctor.
It was only in the last 2, maybe 3 years of his life that he began to really decline, physically, mentally and in his drug usage. There were many tragic reasons for that decline and the increased drug use. I hate when people boil his death down to just his drug usage. It was far more complex than that. Abusing drugs was a symptom, not the cause or disease. Underneath it all, Elvis was heartbroken, weary and just plain tired of being "Elvis". He was depressed, over worked and in ill health with many serious conditions that were not caused by the drugs. He was in tremendous mental and emotional pain, divorced, separated from his daughter, under tremendous financial strain, stifled artistically, under enormous pressure and a sense of responsibility to all the people he employed or supported to keep going when his body was failing him and he needed time off to focus on his health... it was basically a perfect storm (if you've ever seen the movie you'll understand the reference.)
People drink or take drugs in order to relieve pain, whether that pain is physical or emotional. Elvis was in a great deal of pain both physically and emotionally. It's only natural that his drug usage increased to the point it had considering that and the fact that your body over time needs more of a drug than it did in the beginning. Being dependent on those drugs to continue to perform ultimately lead to taking vast quantities which certainly was a factor in his death... but it was by no means the only factor.

Yep and the doctor got struck off the register for over prescribing after Elvis died.
Parker was scum really. Using Elvis as a cash cow 50% of what Elvis made, to feed his gambling addiction. I'm glad that he was sued and he settled out of court. He should have been locked up.

...I disagree with you on the point of Elvis and 'illicit' drugs...having lived in Memphis for 50+years, and knew of the man and his abilities, I feel confident that he did not buy drugs 'off the street'. Dr. Nick(his personal physician)precribed the drugs to keep him going....a really tough schedule throughout his career.

It's well known that Elvis and Priscilla tried LSD together once (I think with his hairdresser) as he wanted to try it, but that was it. His entourage and friends all say that he was never into street drugs, in fact, was dead against them.

Elvis started using drugs in the army back in 1958. Check this out In 1970 Elvis writes to President Nixon (the I am not a crook guy) and offers his services to help combat illicit drug use in the USA. Elvis mentioned that he knew a lot about drugs and was accepted by the hippies. He said he could go right into a group of young people or hippies and be accepted which he felt could be helpful to him in his drug drive. Nixon and Elvis exchanged pleasantries and agreed that “those who use drugs are in the vanguard of American protest.” In 1977 Elvis dies of drug overdose and drug abuse. Putting Elvis in charge of speaking on narcotic abuse is like leaving Dracula in charge of the blood bank.
Hypocrisy: What is an example of hypocrisy? People who tell you not to eat candy while they chomp away on candy all day.
