Honestly I'm glad this video popped up on my feed. I finally came back to this game for the ffx event and happy that I put down for some good units now can't wait for nier to pop so I can round out my team
This is your best and most comprehensive tier list to date; helped me to consolidate my guess on Sakura v. Elsie for my UR select ticket choice. Thanks for that! If I might, as you commented about Leela, as having her own VC, it did seem to be as if opposed to Ildyra; which, however, also has her own (great, btw) VC. For the next one, maybe it would be nice to throw a quick comment about the fact that some some of these MDPS are great, absolutely awesome, in support roles (I'm looking at those main arithmeticians). I might try to make a point on "Duane > 9S", but I'd be disregarding the cost factor. Thanks again for the good content, and for finding a new and fun nickname for KoR Sterne each and every time.
Once Duane's 120 comes out, I don't even think you would have to make that argument! I might be overselling 9S, but I've seen only great things from the JP side. And you are absolutely correct on the MDPS and Support roles. Many of the best units (why the are in the top tiers) play both roles: e.g. Yuna, HLeela, Ildyra, Kilphe, etc. Thanks for watching!

Excellent video with the aim for F2Pers! I do have some alternative views to add in! - Xiza: Definitely does not belong in Cactuar tier since you are considering EX Jobs. Drawing on your underrated comment with Rosa, she at least deserves to be in Chocobo tier. Having a base Jump 2 allows her to move better than most other units. Since many will 99 her for the TMR, she also will have the added bonus of being ready to receive mindspheres (if the F2Per chased bells) earlier. Her EX job provides things to grant her tools to be a very stable light hunter attacker, given she gains base 20% def pen on her strike passive, solid ranged attack options for a strike attacker (her unique skill reduces attack resistance by 30% and has a base atk modifier of 200% for 28 AP, while also having Terra Slash/Surge Strike). She benefits from pairing with most of the dark bros, and actually does well as a KoR buddy due to her natural evasive nature. The 25% weakness to magic does hurt, but has 10% to slash/pierce/strike innately. She goes from TMR bait (not really since I believe Auronn Jay highlighted a Xiza in GWars attacking for 6k) to a very stable and capable speedy striker. Bonus because she's dark elemental and can just run Dark ATK focused VCs (since she will benefit as a byproduct.) - Frederika: I think she has a strong case to make Tonberry tier. Many people expected her to drop off post Lu'Cia, but the range and presence of sharpshoot has kept her highly relevant in many PvP and even PvE accounts. Very common to see her in missile comps at higher ranks, brings 100% hits + chaining, and reflex users are always relevant! Those who pulled her when she first dropped have gotten even more mileage since Frederika's Dream isn't limited. Unlike Lu'Cia and Luartha, who are very dangerous in their own right, Frederika stands out because she slots into a variety of comps + she was free for long while due to her shards being acquired via tokens. EX job fixes her weakness of lacking def pen or an equivalent, but she gains both 40% def pen on a relatively low cost skill and her Range+2 passive grants missile resist pen +40. - Elsirelle: Small caveat to this one, as she's as relevant as your pulls/aims. IF the F2Per is chasing any sort of mainstay light unit, ala Sakura/Yuna/WoL, then Elsirelle should be an easy Tonberry. Unlike other slash bruisers, she's inherently strong to two attack types with her resists and spellblade grants her the ability to magic tank too (quite well). One of the strongest comps (and most stable) in JP was Yuna/Sakura/Elsirelle due to the triple anthem bonus and being a mixed damage. While F2Pers may not have all three, many are chasing Yuna and Elsirelle makes a strong case to protect her with high damage, not that easy to one shot, and providing benefits that complement Yuna being an offensive healer (healing power down in an AOE, ranged chaining, or counterplaying enemy Yuna nukes with Spellblade). No inherent slash resist isn't that much of a problem considering of the resists, slash is the easiest to build (and she has access to armor!). Thanks again for the video and aloha from Hawaii!
Xiza: Would've loved to see more AGI and/or DEX from her EX board. I can't talk bad about Xiza at the moment...for obvious reasons... Frederika: I 100% agree she is the best of the three gunners and love her EX upgrades! Will be my first EX unit. Barrage in and of itself might make her Tonberry (one of the primary reasons I have Xmas Macherie up there...) Elsi: No disagreement whatsoever. If you can make full use of her, she's fantastic. But again, her kit is awkward and specific, but she is definitely going to get a lot of play with Sakura and Yuna!
I loved this tier list! It would be good to consider making some element tier lists for MR and lower rarity units now that we know about selection quests. Will you be on the Dr. Diggs anniversary stream? It would be awesome to see you there!
Great job with this video and the graphics!! That said, there is absolutely *NOOO WAY* Luartha is in the same tier as Winter Viktora, Fredericka (who is amazing pre and post EX jobs), and Lu'cia. Unlike them, Luartha has NO vertical range AND her abilities won't pierce through obstacles, so if one of her allies blocks her view, she won't be able to attack at all, the same goes for walls, pillars, trees, rocks, and what have you. So in essence, she's incredibly finicky and unreliable. Now I know she's is a nuker, and thus hits very hard, but she has trouble navigating most maps because of her scope limitations. She's the worst UR ranged unit bar none. I for one wouldn't touch her with a 10inch pole, as I have Lu'cia, Niv'lu and Fred. Hell, I'd even work on Creysse, Loreila and Khury before her.
I too, have Lu'Cia, Fred, Luartha, Winter Vik and Niv'u (alt account) and I 100% agree with your assessment. However, the "nuker" part shouldn't be undersold. Finnicky? Yes. Annoying to use? Yes. Fights terrain more than other units? Yes. But in the right circumstance I think the damage makes up for it. One dual trigger and she can bring down Agrias, Gilgamesh, Laswell or Viktora.

In my case, I'm not overly fond of glass cannons, especially if sometimes, she might not even get to even shoot once before dying. I'd put her in the same category as O.G. Sterne, but at least Sterne has move4/jump 2, which makes him more versatile to get past those obstacles. I don't know why they didn't think to give her the Ranger or Sniper sub job instead of a second gun-wielding job. All in all, I'm looking forward to the Wind Sniper free unit JP got last week. He seems to be very good, and I'd definitely advise new players or F2P to work on him over purchasing Luartha's shards from the mog shop.

It's ok if they cannot shoot through other units as some kind of limitation to their class, but it is just weird that they make Gunner/Dual Gunner class with very bad range height capabilities when there is an entire field free of obstacles to shoot.
I don't know about Xiza. happy not many are using her. But I had been loving her in PVP for her steal heart, doom (countering evade), and defensive build. Catches a lot of people off guard

Question for the experts: who would be best to use the shard tickets on - Sakura, Garvall, or Ildyra? I am not a big pvp player, I just want to do the tougher pve content easier.
Depends...how long have you been playing and what units do you have? Ildrya is OUT (her shards are available in the Mog Shop, so use these tickets on less accessible units).
@@NerdNight Been playing casually since the game hit the states. I've got a decent number of 99s (Tidus, Kilphe, Xmas Vinera, Elsirelle, Macherie, Sterne, Xiza, Ayaka, Fredericka, & Medina) as well as Yuna and Mont EXed up to 115.
I got questions! Im a F2P player and my only tank max(not including ex job) is Mont, so is he still relevant or shud i change tank? (My next Go to tank is Rain)
Mont can more than hold his own (especially if you want to take him to level 120). You'll still want to work on Rain though, as Mont is a physical tank, and Rain is a magic tank :)
Howlett and Ramza always seem underrated. Normal Viktora is a physical Swiss Army knife and my favorite non-limited unit to play, so I am bias with her. She is not the best at anything, but better than most at a lot of things. She is the quickest spear user to date, the most evasive spear user has the Dragoon jump range and dragoon terrain movement, her limit break has charm, and can hit like a tank. (But can’t do all these things at once.) I hate Garvall because he is so good and he’s just not my type of character. Missing out on Agrias is my biggest regret in the game so far.
A little bit too far in the future :) Wanted to make sure I got the big collab units and upcoming premium units at least (I realized I left out the Scholar unit too)
My game keeps crashing after getting to press to start menu and its an acc I literally just put 100$ in, in prep for the 1st year anniversary, smh. I hope I had my acc linked
@JP Gaming keep trying to get in the game till it does let you in. What I did was un-installed the game and re-installed it then I keep trying to get in the game till it did let me in without crashing. Went straight to option and changed the settings to low graphics and did a batch download in option. This help me play the game again without much issue and I might get a crash here and there once in a while. It usually only happens if I play the game for a long time. Hope this helps.
@@Armoryoshi just reinstalled the game and tried 3 different Facebook and wasn't on any and when I tried the first Gmail my heart dropped when I see that 18k visiore( I'm literally really new to game, never made it past chapter 2 lol) and I have alot of alt emails/acc cus I like rerolling lmao
As I said, Duane's ranking is contingent ONLY because we don't know when his EX will come for GL. Regardless, if you have Duane (I don't...) I would have him in the Guild Barracks 24/7 and have him prepped and ready to go!
Yup, totally left her out (the "future" units) I only covered the collabs and premiums - to be honest, I know absolutely NOTHING about how her kit does in-game!
Rain does a GREAT job at magic tanking even without his Crimson Saber. The sword enables him to do respectable damage on top of that. He is good without it, and slightly better than good with it :D

and the only bonker thing is the developer put Sakura and HLeela at 70 cost which is less than most UR eventho they usually outperform them. Xiza in my opinion should be chocobo tier since she can steal heat, steal time, and steal vision which is important for evade team which she has shadowcast too. When her team died she can revive as well which is on her main kit on top of purification. Utility wise she is the swiss army type unit but lack of damage which her EX seems gives her a lot of man eater *cough Yuna weak to strike cough*
Dispel Spread is definitely one of the more annoying abilities in the game. They also fixed her AI with the last update so she will actually use the paladin sub abilities (if you so choose). I definitely think she could be a tier up!
Just a quick question, I was wondering how you feel that Lara Croft is on her way to WOTV cuz I’m excited for her and I will put both her and Yuna on my team
@@NerdNight for Lara Croft I see her having and exclusive job called “Tomb Raider” which would be a gun class with 1 or 2 support skills that allows her to scale walls like the Ninja classes and having the sub jobs of duel gunner and Sniper and also being either a wind or earth unit. 😊
Interesting. I feel like I would've put Lucia in Cactuar, Luartha in Chocobo, Fred/W. Vik in Tonberry, and Niv in Behemoth... aside from that, I think I agree with most of your ratings.
There are certain raids and bosses that you need to prevent turns from to continue chaining. Less important now than year one, but still a great thing to have!
Feel like your tier list is kinda random, besides the obvious choices. First isn't clear whether the tiers are for what we have (or gonna have) short term or how far in the future. If we talk NOW, or a month, it's useless to bring out Nier or Helena, or many of the og exed units. If we talk long run all the 99 dps besides Garvall and maybe Emo are made obsolete by BRUISERS with ex jobs. 120 Whisper has better damage output than 99 Orlandeau! Same you can't compare Frederika or Wiktora (both with ex jobs expected within two months) with Lucia or Luartha, plus if you get your timeline to Duane EX, you should also include Burlesque Salire, Louelle, Camillo ... And btw Xiza 120 (early ex jobs, second or third week) outspeeds out damages Vinera (and imperils single atk res as well).
Yuna could fit into the Support or MDPS role for sure. I decided to put her in support simply because there were less units there, and also because she has a Full-Life ability. Both Ramza and Delita I think are both borderline Tonberry, and certainly EX Tactics will be fun to see what they do with these units!
@@NerdNight Oh and he uses Golden blade, I cry further. You keep thinking of her as a dps, when her role is closer to a bruiser, evasion tank that has high ap generation and has excellent synergy with other wind units. Her drain force as an example is an excellent sustain skill that lets her recover a large chunk of her hp in clutch situations. Her assassin job lets her take turns often and doge a lot of stuff. Her viking job lets her bulk up with lots of hp. I know you think Soldier and immediately think dps because self sacrifice. But she isn't Sterne with Sukuchi to be mobile and nuke stuff. She is there to turn 2 limit break and outlast her opponents. Plus her Tmr is pretty good.
@@NerdNight I have odin esper and vc on him. he doesn't have def pen so I make up for it with man eater from odin. And it's easy for cecil to reach over 1k attack so yeah he sure can pack a punch.

Depends...how long have you been playing and what units do you have? Ildrya is OUT (her shards are available in the Mog Shop, so use these tickets on less accessible units).
@@NerdNight Been playing casually since the game hit the states. I've got a decent number of 99s (Tidus, Kilphe, Xmas Vinera, Elsirelle, Macherie, Sterne, Xiza, Ayaka, Fredericka, & Medina) as well as Yuna and Mont EXed up to 115.

Mont can more than hold his own (especially if you want to take him to level 120). You'll still want to work on Rain though, as Mont is a physical tank, and Rain is a magic tank :)

Howlett and Ramza always seem underrated.
Normal Viktora is a physical Swiss Army knife and my favorite non-limited unit to play, so I am bias with her. She is not the best at anything, but better than most at a lot of things. She is the quickest spear user to date, the most evasive spear user has the Dragoon jump range and dragoon terrain movement, her limit break has charm, and can hit like a tank. (But can’t do all these things at once.)
I hate Garvall because he is so good and he’s just not my type of character.
Missing out on Agrias is my biggest regret in the game so far.
I LOVE my Viktora, and I wish I found more ways to use her (sadly, I lack most of the Espers/VCs that help pierce)

I would choose Sterne, if onyl because he is a premium unit and much harder to get! You WILL get Laswell at one point or another down the road.

@JP Gaming keep trying to get in the game till it does let you in. What I did was un-installed the game and re-installed it then I keep trying to get in the game till it did let me in without crashing. Went straight to option and changed the settings to low graphics and did a batch download in option.
This help me play the game again without much issue and I might get a crash here and there once in a while. It usually only happens if I play the game for a long time. Hope this helps.

As I said, Duane's ranking is contingent ONLY because we don't know when his EX will come for GL. Regardless, if you have Duane (I don't...) I would have him in the Guild Barracks 24/7 and have him prepped and ready to go!

Why didnt you rank Freyvia as a tank? As a ffbe player i hate to say that but shes really bulky and has good magic and slash resist.
She can be built as a bruiser for sure, but I think her kit is "primarily" support-based, which is why :)
Do you need Rains sword to make him good?
Rain does a GREAT job at magic tanking even without his Crimson Saber. The sword enables him to do respectable damage on top of that. He is good without it, and slightly better than good with it :D

and the only bonker thing is the developer put Sakura and HLeela at 70 cost which is less than most UR eventho they usually outperform them. Xiza in my opinion should be chocobo tier since she can steal heat, steal time, and steal vision which is important for evade team which she has shadowcast too. When her team died she can revive as well which is on her main kit on top of purification. Utility wise she is the swiss army type unit but lack of damage which her EX seems gives her a lot of man eater *cough Yuna weak to strike cough*

Dispel Spread is definitely one of the more annoying abilities in the game. They also fixed her AI with the last update so she will actually use the paladin sub abilities (if you so choose). I definitely think she could be a tier up!

@@NerdNight for Lara Croft I see her having and exclusive job called “Tomb Raider” which would be a gun class with 1 or 2 support skills that allows her to scale walls like the Ninja classes and having the sub jobs of duel gunner and Sniper and also being either a wind or earth unit. 😊

There are certain raids and bosses that you need to prevent turns from to continue chaining. Less important now than year one, but still a great thing to have!

Feel like your tier list is kinda random, besides the obvious choices. First isn't clear whether the tiers are for what we have (or gonna have) short term or how far in the future. If we talk NOW, or a month, it's useless to bring out Nier or Helena, or many of the og exed units. If we talk long run all the 99 dps besides Garvall and maybe Emo are made obsolete by BRUISERS with ex jobs. 120 Whisper has better damage output than 99 Orlandeau! Same you can't compare Frederika or Wiktora (both with ex jobs expected within two months) with Lucia or Luartha, plus if you get your timeline to Duane EX, you should also include Burlesque Salire, Louelle, Camillo ... And btw Xiza 120 (early ex jobs, second or third week) outspeeds out damages Vinera (and imperils single atk res as well).

Yuna could fit into the Support or MDPS role for sure. I decided to put her in support simply because there were less units there, and also because she has a Full-Life ability. Both Ramza and Delita I think are both borderline Tonberry, and certainly EX Tactics will be fun to see what they do with these units!

You keep thinking of her as a dps, when her role is closer to a bruiser, evasion tank that has high ap generation and has excellent synergy with other wind units. Her drain force as an example is an excellent sustain skill that lets her recover a large chunk of her hp in clutch situations. Her assassin job lets her take turns often and doge a lot of stuff. Her viking job lets her bulk up with lots of hp.
I know you think Soldier and immediately think dps because self sacrifice. But she isn't Sterne with Sukuchi to be mobile and nuke stuff. She is there to turn 2 limit break and outlast her opponents.
Plus her Tmr is pretty good.

@@NerdNight I have odin esper and vc on him. he doesn't have def pen so I make up for it with man eater from odin. And it's easy for cecil to reach over 1k attack so yeah he sure can pack a punch.
