Should be mandatory. I'm fed up with drivers with their LEDs on high beam coming at you.
I have led matrix light in my Passat GTE. I’m still impressed every time.
This is how every light demo should be, I love it!
These type of lights have existed for years, but it is good to see it trickle down to smaller and cheaper cars. Have driven many cars with it from BMW (X5, 5-series etc), and it’s amazing. Love how the high beams can split and never blind the drivers coming towards you, and in front of you, by moving the lights around the other cars.
The part at 10:20 with the red car is really impressive, high beam without blinding driver few meters away... wow

The Maxtrix lights are one of maybe three features that really pushed me towards choosing the car! So, so useful! Practical hands on useful stuff. Love it! Thank you for showing me for the first time HOW great it is. A couple of weeks now and I can try it myself. :-)

Loving the cornering and high beam auto adjust. Very clever.
I concur! Just drove my Id.3 plus home, and I could drive with high beam without blinding meeting cars. Just once it failed in ca 30 minutes drive. Really impressed!

The Matrix LED headlights are great - I can testify as I have them in my Passat GTE and they do all that the ID3 does. In rural Scotland its a great asset. I'm a bit surprised that the ID3 does not have "sweeping" indicators though. I'm test driving an ID3 in Aberdeen tomorrow.
My 2023 ID3 has sweeping indicators. It is an option in the settings between classic and dynamic. Not sure about the first edition ID3.
Amazing Light Show thanks a lot. It's seems like a Supernova when you use the high beam. I probably think the light in e Golf of my wife where cool but the matrix lights are unbelivable.
I bought an e-Up a few months ago. Now I wonder if I should have ordered an ID3 for 26000 instead of 15000€.
Best headlights I’ve seen!
Though the rear fog light is a tiny afterthought. Also, the rear indicators are bright but almost disappear when the brake lights come on.

Already saw the new headlight video. Dang it's just very bright, too bright tbh even for rural area. It's okay if it has matrix system like this but with standard non matrix system, nein. It's intended for offroad use anyway
Hi, I drive an ID.3 first edition plus as well. Recently my left headlamp has been filling with condensation, have you seen this happen before, I haven't seen it before in the two years I've had the car.
My e-Golf has the same headlight sytem too, they're awesome! Driving our other car after getting used to these is horrendous!
Nope, VW told me eGolf has something different. But I tried it. It is also as amazing. Just different technology.
Battery Life which is better? The lights on the Id3 or the E Golf?
@@alinmustata E-golf have adaptive lights. id3 have led matrix. I think the egolf lights is a bit slower, but it does the same. Block the lights for the car you are following and oncoming traffic.
Good lights are a big safety plus and one downside of modern Tesla’s. Glad I will have Matrix LED in the ID.3 Tour version. Thank you for the video 👍
Well said, VW is now finally years ahead of Tesla in the little one preference. But it will not suffice to convince the adult clients to fork out an enormous amount of money for an under powered, under performing, very short range marvel, absolutely a dozen years behind a cutting edge technological Tesla one could buy for just a few thousands $ more, and step up in reality to a vastly superior car under every single significant aspect. Like Audi and Porsche the VW group needs to do a lot more work to be able to compete with Tesla in the general content department of the EV world.
I don't understand, what is wrong with the lights of the Model 3?
@@Tjenok They have the vicious habit to disappear so fast in the distance that leave other drivers bewildered. Anyway the Tesla Silicon Valley best minds are working on the problem, and as soon as available they will share the technology with VW so they will be able to enter the XXII second century too.
@@sat7755 i seriously think the best EVs are made by the VW group already and it's called Taycan (for just a bit more money than the model s or model 3 performance).
Regarding the ID3:
So you get a car way cheaper than the model 3, that has the performance of an golf GTI, better range than a tesla, service centers everywhere, heads up display, better driving assist, better lights, smaller car yet more space inside, better build quality and much more..

Why has it taken 50 years to have this wonderful technology such a great feature. It's a must have option.

@@romx87 camera vision of course. but CCD sensors we just invented, processor would have been discrete design and large and too power hungry. movable reflectors would have been possible. would have been a great project at that time.

I love the normal led lights in my skoda octavia, If I had the money,I would change to a car with matrix led 🙈👍 maybe for a id3👍
I really liked the LED headlights on our 2015 eGolf SEL - they had the auto leveling, and their pattern was essentially *perfect*. The Matrix LED takes it to another level!
The rear light way down low on the right - didn't come on.
Neil, I don't think it is supposed to turn on in the low right. Some times the rear fog light is only placed in the left side. At least here in Europe.
@@jesperhald3969 Okay - here in the US there is no such thing as rear fog lights.
This would explain the switches on the left side of the dash - the Front and Rear fog lights. We only have front fog lights, as an option.
Neil Blanchard, ah, okay. It has been mandatory on all vehicles in Europe for decades to have rear fog lights, but not in the front for some reason.
@@jesperhald3969 Probably due to headlights being advanced enough, front fog lights is not needed. But rear is still mandatory because well you can't put headlights in the back lol
@@jesperhald3969 This would also explain the rear fog lights on our Smart EQ. The front is optional, and ours doesn't have them - but it has the rear ones. Though they are in the taillights.
With my experience with an id3 behind the auto lights need a bit more blacking for bikers as it reflects badly in the side mirrors , it seems to blank half the space of a car so should be increased to car width , in the end I had to slow down and let him overtake, but does give a cracking view assist
Love your TH-cam channel ! Do you know if Its possible to change the shape of the brake lights on the ID3 ....so no cross but a simple horizontal stripe ? In the settings I mean.

Great Video, can anyone help me as VW can't answer the question, i'm planning a trip from UK to Spain via France but i'm unable to find out if the matrix LED's on the ID3 automatically change from LHD to RHD and vice versa. If anyone knows you help would be appreciated?
Not automatically. There is a setting in Vehicle/light.

Yes, there is a setting to change right hand to left hand drive.

@@BatteryLife That is another great advantage to these Matrix lights - no more sticking on lenses when changing countries! It would be really good if that setting was automatically changed through the SatNav realising that the country has changed from LHD to RHD and vice versa.

Eine Frage: in den Scheinwerfern sitzen auf der Innenseite (zur Fahrzeugmitte hin) LEDs. Ich dachte erst, die wären für den Blinker, aber der ist ja im Tagfahrlicht integriert. Kannst du mir sagen, wofür diese LEDs sind, Abbiegelicht?
Ich weiß es nicht. Es ist schwer das zu sehen wenn man selbst fährt.

I saw in the demo car that you can change the rear light animation and also floating blinkers! It also does a welcome animation with the rear lights. Can you pls show us that in a new video??

Not that I know off. You can change the indicator from normal to animated.

Lights have improved at Volkswagen over the years. My first car was a 1961 Beetle with a 6V system, it felt like the light rolled under the car while driving. When you switched between low beam and high beam with the foot operated switch the light went out for like a second 🌚...
Ha ha - I remember as a boy 10 year old driving an old Opel Rekord on a field... So fun. 6v - yeah, If I forgot the light, I could hardly start the car 😅

Normal LEDs will be great and we still get light assist to auto dim them, which is something I need 😁
Yes, I think so. The LEDs on our 2015 eGolf SEL were the best headlights I have ever used. They had auto leveling (up and down) which worked when you had more weight in the back, and also up and down hills. The cutoff at the top of the low beam was perfect. You almost never needed the high beams.
Marcus EV Journey I had light assist for the last 5 years on golfs, it works great on country roads but not so much on motorways. Lorry drivers will be flashing you A LOT
One another plus point of this headlight is that it is actually helpful for drivers in front of you as high beam coming from unmasked side helps illuminate the surroundings around them, while not getting blinded from behind
Why are the temperature controls not illuminated? Can you see the controls properly just using the light from the main screen?
I don't change it too often. I haven't noticed a problem yet.

It is exactly that. Standard. Just a safety function. Travel assist in the max would be something to report of.
I would change the symbol light in the mirror with some power LED to real light up the area in front of the doors.
Did you confuse the sound of the mirrors moving with the matrix lights? It seemed that you did from the edit, but maybe not in reality.
No, it is a different sound. You can hear it very clearly.

I think it does Not work. I have an old Fiat Panda...and even during day time I get blended..I blink and blink..say to my Missy they must have have something "Auto" going - but I am getting blended even during day. Turn off the High Beams..so the question is how does it Look like from the outside meeting you in a corner in 70km/h...will I see something or use Da Force as I have to even now,

Letztes Wochenende hatte ich ein Auto vor mir, dass in der Dämmerung kein Licht an hatte (es war wirklich schon sehr dunkel und Licht wäre mehr als angemessen gewesen). Der hat die automatische Lichtsteuerung überfordert. Immer wieder bekam er das Fernlicht ab, bis mein Wagen die Reflektoren seines Wagens bemerkt hatte und ihn vorübergehend wieder ausgeblendet hat.
Ja, unglaublich wie viele sich auf das Autofahrlicht verlassen. Vorallem im Nebel. Und viele wissen auch nicht, daß beim Tagfahrlicht hinten kein Licht an ist.
@@BatteryLife Daher habe ich bei meinen letzten beiden Wagen (davor hatte ich noch kein Tagfahrlicht) über die OBD eingestellt, dass auch bei Tagfahrlicht die Rückleuchten aktiv sind (ist der Skandinavien-Modus).

I have a 12 year old BMW X5 which has this auto high beam . Is anything different in ID.3?
This one will mask low beam only as wide as car's area. So you can have high beam all night not blinding driver inside cars in front or incoming

What warranty does the car have? What about the batteries and the drivetrain? 8 years?
8 years 160.000km battery. Drivetrain no idea. Normal warranty 2 years. Rust 10 years, i think.
Battery Life the normal one is so little at 2 years, tesla model 3 has 4 years, e niro has 7 years, at least 3 years is the standard

Warum sind die Heckleuchten nicht mit dynamischer Blinkleuchte? Auch das begrüßen und verabschieden der Heckleuchten beim ein und ausschalten fehlt mir hier???

Matrix lights are really good but keep the high beam off in towns, city’s or areas with a lot of undulating land work best
It turns the high beams of in cities automatically.
Battery Life a slight improvement then over the Touareg iq version I drove then early last year

It does it automatically. I think. There is some bad weather light automatic stuff.
Interesting, I'm getting the same "front assist is unavailable" error message every now and then.
It was my first time. But I get a lot of phantom warnings that are not true. Wipers are malfunctioning even though they work. Software is far from finished.
