In this video we are going to show you how to remove and replace a faulty or deployed seat belt pretensioner. We demonstrated on a Ford Escape 1st generation which is the same as Mercury Mariner and Mazda Tribute.
It will be also very close procedure for almost all vehicles that are equipped with seat belt pretensioner.
This one was deployed because the car was in a minor accident.

first thing...disconnect the battery terminals before unplugging pretensioner cables otherwise the airbag light might come on.
chris mac you are so right here. Hardly any of these videos I watch on this subject don’t state this. When you pull the seat and pull that YELLOW cord make sure you already disconnect the negative from the battery.

can anyone tell me what the torque wrench thing he used to get the actual tensioner off is called, i need to buy one
my seatbelt pretensioner wiring has been cut from the seat sliding back and forth and has caused my airbag light to come on. I have a 2006 Ford crown victoria police interceptor. can I just buy another one or does the computer have to be flashed or something to recognize it

While at the end of seat belt retractor removal process, I accidently damaged a yellow pigtail connector plug at pre-tensioner (located just above the floor) on right passenger side on 2005 Hyundai Elantra. Any advise on how to fix/replace the plug at retractor?
you need torx socket bit to remove the buckle form the seat. then its a lot easier. find the right size tho
Before you get too deep into the repair/replacement of the seatbelt tensioner, try disengaging the connectors completely (pressing the connectors together is not usually good enough). I am referring to the male connector of the pretensioner attached to the seatbelt system. I have a BMW E46. After doing this, try resetting by using your resetting tool (and I assume you have one. They are not that expensive at all.) If this does not resolve your problem, then by all means, proceed with the more involved steps. Good luck!

I removed mine from my 1997 Ford fiesta and had no problem not disconnecting the battery

My Ford F150 2016 was recalled for that crap. Ford said we'll fix it for free. Free my ass! Ford kept my vehicle all day. Didn't pay me for loss of use. Eaglegards 🦅 you saps...
