I've had my Cruze Eco since 2012, automatic trans, and I can attest that the MPG is actually better than advertised. In the last 6,700 miles (I reset my odometer a few months back) I have averaged 37.8 mpg, and this is a combo of highway and city driving, so a very good indicator of mpg in the Cruze Eco. On highway trips, it regularly gets over 40mpg, usually about 41-42 mpg for drives over 40 or 50 miles. On a trip to Cleveland (about 400 miles from my home in Pennsylvania), I averaged 46 mpg. Service costs are also quite low - you only need an oil change about every 10,000 miles, but I have mine done every 5,000-6,000. There is an oil life indicator that will tell you when you need a change. For whatever reason, I do have a full size spare and not the patch kit. My mpg is awesome so I have been reluctant to ditch the tire and get a kit. I've also got 45,000 miles on the Goodyear Assurance tires, which have a lower resistance so they don't create as much friction with the road (hence more mpg) and they are made from a harder compound so they don't wear as easily. Eco also has much nicer wheels than the LS or LT/LTZ models. GM really hasn't updated the car very much since the 2012 model year - the only thing I am missing is the Chevy MyLink touch screen, but although I want one, I can live without it.
Thank you for a fantastic and fair review! 80k miles on my 2013 Cruze Eco, running strong with no major issues and we routinely see the 50's in miles per gallon terms on road trips when we use higher octane fuels.
I have a 2014 eco 6 MT and I get around 43 to 45 mpg here in Florida with the cruise control set to 67mph. I love my car and with the mylink, rear view camera and fog lights it was it had a lot more features than my 2007 acura TL. The best part is the cruze eco uses regular grade gas. I only use shell or chevron. My car has over 13,000 miles on it and works like a champ. My best MPG for a 50 mile stretch was 47.6 MPG and this was done on I-75 south, south of Atlanta.
@@marl0n9 I had to get a bigger car after getting married. Bought a 2016 Impala LTZ in 2017 and sold my cruze eco. It had 64,000 on it and got $10,000 for it. The car was great at the point I was looking to buy a second one as a second car but could find a 6MT with mylink and taken care of by previous owner.
Glad to see GM finally putting effort into the engineering of their compact car entry, this seems like a much better car than the Cobalt, Caviler, and Chevette
My Chevy Cruze Eco Tech LS 6 speed manual transmission it gets 28 to 48 mi per gallon. The shifting gears are good it as a low an high shifting power. You do have to shift down to fourth third gear climbing hills in order for the transmission to kick into turbo, if not you will slow down.
I like the Cruze we get a ton of these at hertz. They are great cars up to 30k, but then the suspension seems to go south and develops a clucking noise over bumps. This isn't the case with most of our rental queens.
I have a 2012 manual Cruze Eco. I bought it for all the reasons this reviewer has recommended it. And while highway fuel economy has been excellent (40-46mpg depending on how much of a hurry I am in), I am a little disappointed in city fuel economy (23-27mpg). Maybe it's my driving habits.
One of the most recalled cars. Coil packs, cracked pistons, thermostat housing leaks that lead to overheating and blown head gaskets, and broken waste gates on the turbocharger... it's $1000 for the part alone because you have to buy the ENTIRE turbocharger. Also, the heater cores leak, allowing antifreeze vapors into the passenger compartment. It's sisters the Buick Encore and Chevy Trax has most of the same problems. The GM 1.4L turbocharged engine is junk. Avoid it and the GM 1.5L turbo in other GM cars.... they also shatter pistons....
Overdrive or underdrive of the gears - doesn´t matter, because the transmission of the axle is the most important thing. You can achieve even with a transmission, which has the biggest gear with a ratio "1", a very low engine speed.
I agree the cruze is one fun car to drive also I learned how to drive a manual on this car. The clutch and the shifter feels really smooth. The 1.4L Ecotec turbo is one heck of an engine. People be surprise when I say it's a 1.4 they open there mouth they can't believe it. Chevy should make the manual transmission available in the higher trims cause I want a LTZ RS with a manual. But no they get the Auto. Not bad but the Manuel is way more enjoyable .
Whoever said a VW is less expensive is high....We just bought one of these for $17K.....not a single Jetta avail for under $20. I have averaged 40 mpg in 150 miles of city/highway (50/50) driving. Remember in order to match the mileage u would have to be looking at a clean diesel or hybrid....so yeah keep dreaming import fanboy! I wish the brakes were a bit more solid, but maybe a rear disc upgrade kit will fix that down the road.
i got this car about three weeks ago and right now i'm in full blown anxiety mode about the discovery of not having a spare tire AT ALL!!! certainly no full size spare but not even a donut? seriously? I have never bought a gm product before and this will definitely be the last time. one ridiculous idea after another... wow!!! i just cant get over gm thinking people use spare tires because of low air pressure... sidewall blow out after hitting a pot hole on an overnight drive back home 300 miles away; gm says "sorry, you're fucked".
My Cruze has a pair tire in the trunk. And I love this car. Ppl always talking bad about cars. But in my opinion it's the way you treat your car. Be good to it at it will be good to you.
Never seen this guy before but he's great.

Hows it run now?

Nice to see a video from an owner, I have a 2013 ECO Auto and I love it. I avg around 39MPG on my commute.
I enjoy this guys reviews.
Thanks for a review that actually was a review and not a screen show with bad music.
Glad to see GM finally putting effort into the engineering of their compact car entry, this seems like a much better car than the Cobalt, Caviler, and Chevette
Great review! Really like this car, just wish they would bring the hatchback version here (bigger than the Sonic).

Excellent review. I own a 2014 Cruze eco with the manual. I can confirm it gets the gas mileage he claims. And it is a unique manual. I love it.
Thanks that's how you do a review!
This was an awesome video review! Pleasantly surprised and well informed. Thanks!
i drive this car now, in holland. Its a great car. Almost no one has it, and people are looking up at you. They think it`s an very expensive car.
Nice car but mine doesn't have a rear backup camera, is it possible to add it , any suggestion please let me know
Awesome job Aaron

I love cruze ❤️👍
I love Aaron!!!
The most efficient nonhybrid is the 45mpg Ford Fiesta 1.0 (three cylinder)
.

Arron how tall are you?
This is a rarity in Germany and I drive one in Berlin.:)

80k miles in mine, from Seattle to Phoenix with road trips to Denver and St Louis and tires sitting at 80k miles... no issues :D

Gas saving or no savings. I'm not going any where with out a full size spare tire,
For what it is, it's alright. The VW Jetta is less expensive, but then it probably evens out, because the Chevy Cruz uses less gas.
No man has a weak right arm.
+abu ess you do
So being built here is supposed to be a positive? LOL. I'd rather built in Japan, Germany, Canada, etc. :)
Interior looks like an Elantra.
Interior is elegant and beautiful in mine. Love it
What a weird outfit
