  • In this video, I share my first impressions of the Altra Superior 6 trail running shoes and compare them with the previous model, the Superior 5. Although it's my initial review after running in them only once, I wanted to provide early insights for those considering purchasing a pair. I bought these shoes with my own money because I couldn't wait for Altra to send me a pair. I discuss various aspects of the Superior 6, including the design, heel tab, similarities with the Superior 5, improvements in the Max Track rubber outsole, plushness of the heel cup, tongue softness, upper rigidity, comfort, ground feel, usage preferences, eyelets, toe cap, stone guard removal, foot shape, insole comparison, toe box depth, and overall quality. If you have any questions or want to know more about Altra shoes, drop a comment below. Thank you for watching, and stay tuned for more updates. See you next time!

    Nice initial review! I've got the Superior 5 and love the shoe except for the shallow toe box. Would be nice if Altra would come out with more lower stack height shoes but apparently that is not what people want.

      Yeah i wanna try escalate racers because they are low, but the colorways are trash

    Colour coordination on point ! T-shirt, Altra logo , wrist band and plant pot - nice.
    Cool looking shoe

    The toe cap on the 5 combined with the shallow toe box meant I had to size up ridiculously to avoid smashing into the top and/or end. Maybe that’s why they left the rock plate out (even though it was optional…). Anyway thanks for the vid!

    I never used the stone guard in my Superiors, so it won't be missed here. My last Superior so far is the 4. I love running in the Superiors, but like you I tend to do long stuff when I'm on the trail and reach for some more cushion.

    Call me crazy but I’d love an update to the escalante racer. Instead of the mesh, use a similar upper material to the vanish series and maybe use a foam somewhere in between the responsive firm ego they use and the bouncy ego pro. They could keep the stack height at 22mm or go up to 24mm. And they’d need to keep the sizing exactly as it is now and not make it narrower.

      I have heard a rumour about an updated version coming out in November this year. I haven't seen any specs, but I would not be surprised if they changed a few things.

    Great Review. Is the Superior more flexible and easier to twist than the Lonepeak?

    • @TDMiller

      There's not much difference that I can feel. Which LP specifically?

    The heal tab sucks cuz it should be looped vertically, not horizontally.

    How long is the toe guard on the pinky toe side compared to the superior 5?

  • @sarasaaguado

    Midsole firmer than most Altras and superior 5?
    I want this shoe for fast walking mostly
    Thank you for your dedicated videos

      I prefer firm midsoles
      Since you have my size
      44
      Could you measure the length underneath the insole
      And the width (at 11cm starting from bottom of heel) That is where my midfoot is widest
      I would like widht there...i guess the newer altras have narrowed ?

    • @TDMiller
      @TDMiller  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey yes, the Superior 6 does feel firmer than the 5 👍 as for the midsole, it's 28,5cm long for my size 44EU and 7,5cm wide 11cm from the back. Hope this helps 😊

    • @sarasaaguado
      @sarasaaguado ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much
      Wow thats wide. Did you measure really underneath the insole or outside (outsole)
      That's quite wide....good for me haha
      Also the upper seems thicker than five would it protect me from sticks more than previous version ? I walk in woods

    • @TDMiller
      @TDMiller  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sarasaaguado I measured the full insole from edge to edge. If I only measure the insole before the insolve curves up around the foot it's still approx 6cm wide. The upper will protect your feet from most things in the woods, but it offers less protection than hiking boots.

    • @sarasaaguado
      @sarasaaguado ปีที่แล้ว

      So you mean you measured 6cm before the shoe starts to widen? Like at about 9cm? When does it begin to widen
      Please let us know how the midsole its feeling to you and if its firmer than the 5 and firmer than lone peak 7 or other firm midsole shoes
      I dont want to order the 5 if the midsole its soft. I need something that wont be sinking
      Thank you in advance

    How does the fit compare to the 5? I loved the superior 5 but found that the size 10 was too short and the 10.5 felt a little too spacious. I have the timp 4 in a size 10 and they’re perfect.

    • @TDMiller
      @TDMiller  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think you'll be good with the 10 again. I personally did not feel too much difference compared to the 5, however I have heard reports of people saying the 6 feels longer than the 5. 10.5 would probably be too big as well. What size do you normally wear for casual shoes?

    • @markrandio5462
      @markrandio5462 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Usually a 10. All my other Altras are a 10 and fit well. I honestly wear them 90% of the time for work, camping, casual, trail running, and road running.

    • @TDMiller
      @TDMiller  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@markrandio5462 I see. For casual shoes I'm usually between a 9 and 9.5, but for running I make sure I size up to prevent my toes bumping against the end. I suppose it's all personal preference.

    • @markrandio5462
      @markrandio5462 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TDMiller makes sense. I usually just enjoy having space for my toes, don’t like them being squished. Especially since for work I teach PE so I’m moving a lot and running with the students. I also usually just use older running shoes and incorporate into my daily rotation.

    I have Superior 4.5 and I don't see much change. I read that in this model, compared to 4.5 and 5, Altra use a midsole Ego. I wonder if there is a significant feeling of this?

    • @TDMiller
      @TDMiller  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I just received confirmation from an Altra rep that the Superior 6 has neither quantic nor ego. It's an unbranded compressed molded EVA. The Altra website is wrong. I'll include it in my testing. 👍

  • @iowminibar
    @iowminibar ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Has the midsole not changed up from Quantic aswell or has it just been renamed to Ego?

    • @TDMiller
      @TDMiller  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question. I've heard conflicting information about them. Some retailers say "same old quantic", Altra's website says Ego. The midsole doesn't have a logo on it. I'm going to trust the Altra website on this, but will feel if I notice a difference for my full comparison video 👍

    I can confirm that this was an awful show for me. The toe box is incredibly shallow. Even if you remove the insoles. Your toes are crushed and as a result they end up going numb. It's an awful shoe!!!!
