I sold an 1800.00 vase and I bubble wrapped it to death, packed all around it...and, took insurance out on the full amount!!! It made it...I was sweating it though!
Hi I use dollar store pool noodles cut to size usually set in each corner corner if a piece is big or expensive and I always use a square box never rectangle after years of sending carnival all around the us never have I had to cash in the postal insurance ...unfortunately I'm to much of a chicken to drop the insurance lol just a idea if you didn't already know about the pool noodles
A little dawn with baking soda, make a paste. Use a soft damp cloth with the paste in circles, then rinse and dry. Cleans teapots up nicely, won’t scratch.
Hi Joslin the tea pot you picked out is quire an expensive one. I brought same a year ago. You should do very well with it for resale. And if you decide to keep for yourself you will not be disappointed!
I'm shocked at the prices at your Goodwill stores! The ones where I live are becoming almost retail. I used to find gorgeous Bavarian decorated plates and bowls for minimal prices. Not so much anymore 😢
If you haven’t tried Blue Lizard sunscreen for Ashton give it a try. It isn’t full of chemicals. It is a mineral based sunscreen. It’smade near where I live and the stuff Is awesome! It’s safe for babies and very waterproof.
My son would break out in hives from traditional sunscreens when he was a baby, he got a job with our neighbors who own and operate a small business called little hands Hawaii. Good all-natural reef-safe sunscreen and you can use it for diaper rash cream.
OMG today while at the vintage store I caught my self “tapping” items after I had picked them up and was returning them to the shelf. I definitely giggled to myself 😊
When I sell a really expensive piece, I mail it usps Registered Insured the lock them in a safe, everything it is touched it is signed for and scanned. It is slower than Priority but well worth it. It never goes into the general mail stream!
I'd have bubble-wrapped the rhino and packed him in a styrofoam medical insulation package and then boxed that. I shipped light bulbs from CT to California that way once without a bobble. The foam acts like a second box and padding at the same time.
I can’t even imagine shipping a $1200 piece ! My stomach would be in knots until the buyer received it🤢I know Kat the nurse flipper uses the insta packs from American bubble boy for her expensive pieces. I’m so excited for you guys and I can’t wait to see that baby girl 💕💕💕
Have you tried using a blow dryer on items wrapped in tape? I hear that it loosens the tape, so it will come off easier. Hope this helps. Congrats on the new baby!!!
I feel for Ashton! Try Badger sunscreen, or something mineral based at health food stores, or Whole Foods! I suffered for years not knowing what was going on with rashes I hope this works! Other comments..... CONGRATS!!!!!!
My dermatologist said to use plain zinc oxide with nothing else in it because I have the most sensitive skin. If I can get the name there is another one that is great for people with allergies. Many people are allergic to the PABA in the Sunscreen. Also put it on when your skin is clean. If your put it on dirty skin it traps dirt and oils and then people break out. You can also premoisturize his skin with plain unscented organic mango butter. The particles are too big to clog pores. The sunscreen still works because it blocks the UVA/UVB even over moisturizer.
All of that build up will come off without scratching use that PINK STUFF. Buy it on Amazon use with a little round soft bristle brush, yes that is the name of the product. Brings bottom back in pots, pans, skillets many other uses like porcelain. Thanks for sharing.
Regarding taped glass tumblers with gold designs... you can soak the glasses with the tape still on the glasses, in hot soapy water for at least 5-10 minutes. The tape will usually slide off without damage to the gold design... 👍 Speaking from trial and error experience... Lol.
I really have been trying at thrift stores to find more glass pieces, and I focused on looking for those today at 4 stores and couldn't find anything that would make sense to pick up. I'm still going to keep hunting for great pottery and glassware items.
That little black biscuit jar with the florals. Absolutely, adorable. Thanks for another great video. Beautiful treasures, always relaxing to listen to you as you share your incredible knowledge. Really appreciate it.💜
The carved wood duck by Emil Milan (Elizabeth, NJ 1922-85) is definitely an appetizer server. This example of his functional sculptures was featured in the May/June1957 issue of the American Craft Council's magazine Craft Horizons.
I've had success in removing tape and stickers by soaking pieces in warm, soapy water. If items can't go in water, I put a damp paper towel over stickers to soften the adhesive.
I'm allergic to sunscreen, too. It's the ingredients that make it water resistant or waterproof. I've found I can use "regular" sunscreen(if I can find it) or some of the more natural products without getting a rash.
Packaging with padding and bubble wrap is important but I find the strength of the box is as important, the boxes have a tendency to crush in the corners. Reinforce corners to prevent crushing or reinforce the whole box with a strong cardboard. Insurance helps to give it more careful handling during the shipping process. I love “window shopping” with you, Jocelyn. You show that knowledge and hard work pays off.
I worked at a department store back in the 80s in the shipping area. We had issue with a UPS driver throwing a packed box of bone china against the dock door. It was double boxed (decorative wedding gift wrapped) and made it to Boston ok. But the store manager contacted UPS and told them if it broke the driver was responsible for $150 for the china. It was a scary thing. How do i know this? I was the one that packed it, and then reported the driver to the store manager.
That piece of wood with the painting is called Tole painting.. my mom used to do it in the 80’s with a lot of strawberries. That was when she had her craft biz that she did on the side with her best friend ( they were both full time xray technicians) and their little biz was call “Country Companion’s) My mom always saved the money she made to make a very good Christmas for us kids. That napkin piece next to the roly poly glasses was cute. My Grandma used to order from Lillian Vernon in the 70’s because there was never anything with the correct spelling of my name. I still have the change purse she got me when I was 10 that has my name printed all over it ☺️sweet memories
Thank u for sharing your all your beautiful treasures at your shop.Andrew praying that your shipment will servide the shipment .U did an awsome job to make sure it is wrap , cousined and very proctected for shipment .💞Thank u for sharing your stories .💞
My son & I were looking for a teapot awhile back, we wanted to find one we both agreed on. It took us awhile but we kept seeing the one you bought with the wood at our Marshalls, & had it been up to me we would have bought it but there was something about it he didn't like. I don't remember what it was.
I love the agave bowl! I'm pretty sure it was made for Crate & Barrel. I have one very similar, not as folded, with white and mother-of-pearl iridescence that still has both a Made in Murano sticker as well as the Crate & Barrel sticker
Was coming to comment the same thing! This same bowl is what got me hooked on thrifting. I found it at Goodwill about 12 years ago for $5.00 with Crate and Barrel sticker on it. At the time, the identical bowl was for sale on Crate and Barrel website for $90.00!
Congratulations to you and Andrew on the baby. I don't mean to be in your business but have you thought about when she was concieved and when you were working in the hoarder house? If there was an over lap you might let your doctor know out of extreme caution. I know you used ventilation masks but tell the doc in the event preventative medicine is needed.
03:25 That one looks as though it's laser-cut teak. Teak is notoriously difficult to carve due to its tendency to chip and break, so if you find finely-carved South Asian teak like this, odds on it's a laser-cut piece. 03:50 With all the paint on it, especially inside the bowl, I don't see how it can be a piece other than decorative. The paint would wear with the first thing you tried to grind in it. 04:25 Pass, pass, pass. They rurnt it for ya. 04:58 Uh-uh. The other was a Mandarin duck; this is a wood duck. (We got the latter down here, wild.) 05:26 Meh. They're aping Franciscan Apple Blossom, and not well at that. 07:56 Cigar boxes of that size are surprisingly salable, provided they can hold 4x6 or 3x5 notecards. At those sizes, they make GREAT recipe boxes. (I have one in my own kitchen from the mid-80s, which once held Armas del Casa Prado cigars.) 11:43 That ain't a HALF bad kettle! My only strike against it is that it appears to be chromium plated, but that's just my copper-kettle snobbery talking. Again, I think you're looking at a teak handle which isn't to be sneezed at.
Jocelyn...if that purple bear in the cartt is what I think it is, it goes for $100+! Vintage Manhattan Toy Company velour stuffed animals are very desired. I sold one from 1988 for $125!
I swear I saw that teapot in another video where you were at the shop… is this a little of an older trip or am I losing it? I thought you noticed the lid was clear in the other video
Oh my gosh! You’ve got a blue cat like mine! I found mine in a Salvation Army store. It was the first thing I saw and I had to have him. I’ve tried to find information on him but I’ve had no luck. This cat was in a scene in a movie- can’t remember which movie- but he was being used for target practice. They shot him and I yelled “THEY KILLED MY CAT!”. I’d love to find out some background on him.
If you ever need anybody to Organize let me know I am a very good organizer and I like to work And I love what you do Thank you for being you and your kids are awesome I have four of my own
I have a coconut allergy. Many sunscreens contain coconut oil. That might be what Ashton is allergic to. If I use a lotion or soap that contains coconut oil I breakout in a rash or hives.
My son also gets a rash from most sunscreens. We are able to use Zinc based formulas on him like Coppertone Kids or babies and some of the sensitive skin ones. I think Alba is another brand with mostly Zinc.
I have the whistling kettle they are hundreds of dollars new. I think I was given mine 2010. Some older one sell for more then new. Handle is real wood
I have same allergy to sunscreen especially hypoallergenic.clear zinc oxide for face not allergic. Ban de solele cream not oil.I think it's the oils. Hope that helps when you find one they always take it off market so I stock up
Lilian Vernon…that takes me back to the late 80s…I always loved to get her catalogs in the mail. And I would buy things from it too. 35 -40 years later, I think I still have some of her little white shell shaped? trinket dishes around somewhere.. And the company that bears her name has a website so I guess they never went out of business like I thought they did, (Uh oh, I’m thinking “temptation” to spend some time there.) Hi my son has very sensitive skin and tons of allergies. We have to use Vanicream Sunscreen for him. Maybe you could try that if you havent already. It is a little hard to find. Love your videos!!
I do recall you buying an enamel cylinder pot that had no lid . Perhaps that lid you found is it's mate? Could've been at a different Goodwill. I dunno.
Ive never really felt the total frustration of stickers on fragile metal trim that is on glass or plastic items, until recently.....I bought a vintage christmas, hurricane type lamp decoration which was is in EXCELLENT vintage condition and when I got home and removed it from the box, the price sticker was on the gold (painted) base and when I took off the sticker it pulled a large chunk of the gold with it...AARRGGGHHHHHH!....I was so frustrated!!....and it wasn't cheap!.....is there any way to repair something like that?....unfortunately its right on the front of the lamp so its not like I can turn it around with the blemish in the back....jeesh!!....so now whenever I see you turn down something because of the tape positioning, I totally get it!!.............LOVE your vids!!...thank you so much for taking us with you on your adventures!!....;-D
I sold an 1800.00 vase and I bubble wrapped it to death, packed all around it...and, took insurance out on the full amount!!! It made it...I was sweating it though!

Jocelyn I have soaked items in tap in warm water and the gold is unharmed. You are right and they need to stop using package tape.

Was gonna suggest the same. They are amazingly strong and can be reused for a number of purposes. They can literally be stood on and won't break!

The vintage plastic wood look desk organizer sells really well. I've sold two for $25 each.
I gave one just like it to my mother for Christmas in 1972. She was still using it in 2017.
Reidel bar ware pronounced like needle.

Jocelyn, could wooden bowl with fish on it be a fishbowl holder?
Have you decided on the new nursery theme yet? I was watching things you were selecting trying to see if anything might be for the new little one.

I do recall you buying an enamel cylinder pot that had no lid . Perhaps that lid you found is it's mate? Could've been at a different Goodwill. I dunno.
