Zhengzhou residents mourn subway flood victims in China’s central Henan province

One week after the tragic floods in central China, residents in the Henan provincial capital Zhengzhou mourned the victims killed in the subway train flooding on July 20, 2021. Most of the trapped passengers were rescued except for 14 people, who perished when floodwaters entered the subway tunnel and engulfed one of the train carriages.

The kind of death that I have seen multiple times in movies. The type that got me scared the most. I don't have claustrophobia but that is the most terrifying way to die.
Same thing happened with a Korean ship full of students
I used to feel similar to you but then I read stories of people who have drowned and were revived. All of them said it was a peaceful kind of death. I'm not sure if this is helpful to you but for me, after reading their accounts, my fear of death by drowning diminished significantly.
Now death by being eaten alive (alligator, shark, etc) different story.
Or death by fire I think terrifies me the very most.
Fire would be far worse.

Do not be mistaken, their deaths are not due to "rainfall" but human influenced factors of dams' unannounced discharge of water. They are murdered!

What happened to those poor people was extremely tragic. I can even imagine what they went through. My heart breaks for them, their families, and their friends. So devastating, I am truly sorry. My sincerest condolences to all. :'(

The subway scene reminded me of the Titanic. It's tragic that people had to go through this horrifying experience. You're off to work or back home to your loved ones but you're just stuck there waiting to be rescued. My deepest condolences.

It is both beautiful and painful to see them struck with grief, mourning for people they knew and don't know. Life can happen so suddenly, the journey to your next destination stopped and your last moments on the route you wanted to take. The passenger footage in the train cart was so chilling. I cried seeing the notes and thinking about how the victims must have felt and how their loved ones are feeling. I hope they rest in peace.
Imagine being trapped in those vehicles, there's no way out at all. Slowly losing hope. There's a better chance of survival if u fall into the water, outdoor.
This is about those 14 people who drowned in the Subway. They aren't talking about the hundreds of cars in the 2.4 miles tunnel that flooded.
Imagine the managers of that subway refusing to stop the trains due to orders from the CCP and now people are dead. Where is the justice? None, they will through you in jail if you mentioned it.

@@basicinfo2022 Emergency exit on the roof isn't much help in a flooded subway tunnel, passengers still have to climb down from the roof. Subway networks are responsible for the safety of passengers, and incompetence left these passengers trapped underground to suffocate and drown.
The words left behind by those mourning the loss of so many eye beautiful. I feel the same way, and wish for them to find their way to a place where they can be happy.

I hope their loved ones get the eternal love and peace they deserve in the afterlife. I pray that the government will see this as a failure to protect the innocent people that they were supposed to. I can't believe they choose saving face rather than saving lives. I haven't seen any apologies to the families of the souls lost and covering up an outpouring of grief is offensive. I'm so angry that so many lives were lost that didn't need to be.

Guys, that girl who's alone at the beginning is dead. I saw her pic in one of the video as thumbnail. I feel sorry for everyone but seeing this girl makes me more sad as she died alone there. That was her last moment when she was alive. RIP everyone.

@@Shaolingy most of the passengers in the subway were rescued within an hour, saw the video of them getting lead to safty through emergency tunnel during the flash flood, but 14 of them sadly died.
My gosh that would be the most unbearable way to die. Those poor people.

The flash flood came after 1 hour of heavy rain, and pretty sure no one would expect the rain to be that heavy.
Tho yes, the Subway tunnel should have installed countermeasures in preparation for such cases.

I am so sorry for the loss of life. I saw the videos when I found out and I just wanted to hug everyone involved. It was so scary and upsetting to learn the subway people died. It must of been so scary for them. The videos show their faces just realizing their fate. They weren't crying hysterical. They were dignified. My heart goes out their family and friends and to the community. Hugs. Stay safe

We had a similar flood in Istanbul a few years ago. Metro was flooded but it was emptied on time so nobody get hurt. It is sad to see people trapped inside iron boxes. My condelences to those who lost loved ones.

In fact, I have seen people sending flowers spontaneously to pay tribute to the victims on many Chinese news platforms. But because a large number of people sent flowers, the roads were occupied, affecting the passage of passers-by.
