Awesome smorgasbord of delightful information, Brickey!.. Have never heard of a predecessor to Mr Toad…wow !.. My mom remembers riding on the bumper car ride at Playland at the Beach in San Francisco during the 1950’s…
Two words that I always look forward to: “Brickey here.” One word I didn’t know meant so much: “fiberglass!” I loved learning how traditional carnival rides became magical Disney experiences. The process makes me appreciate the product even more.
🐞I was there on opening night. I never got to ride “Mr Toad’s Wild Ride” that night. It kept breaking down. They moved the ropes back and forth. We finally moved on. Years later I finally got to ride it. It was exciting. 🐞
On the section of Motormania with the rollers of scenery on either side: When I was a kid, I had an armchair concept for an attraction called Toonited States Tour, which I pictured using a system like that to convey the feeling of scenery passing your vehicle. And of course, I had no idea Disney had ever considered doing anything similar.
Tokyo Disneyland flirted with the idea of a motor mania ride based on the wind and the willows. It was an indoor/outdoor ride that had small cars but similar to a type of roller coaster
Fun familiar side stories about Bruce too…a huge guy, so he set the guest scale for all attractions and vehicles; if he fit, anyone would. And he is the son of a very famous silent actor from Ben Hur. Love his charming art.
Great video. Cameos by Gary, Larry and Adam the Woo! I love seeing how the ideas evolved into the rides we have today. Keep it up Brickey, I'm here for all the videos.
Hi Brickey, from San Diego!! @ 6:46 (and I hear everyone has a twin somewhere) your "vlog bomber" sure looked like Adam the Woo! I love your videos! Thank you for all of them!!
I had always assumed they took inspiration from Pretzel Amusement Ride Company. They invented the single rail dark ride system before Disneyland was even conceived.
Yes. Cassidy patented the Pretzel car in 1929, and Travers ripped him off and patented the Laff In The Dark car in 1930. For 25 years those were the only dark ride cars manufactured. I guess the patents ran out, and in 1954 Arrow could build their own cars.
Love all the old plans and schematics. Really interesting- all new info to me. Great work. Thank God Larry survived the ride! 😂 And you survived the ATW photobombing, but not without a good. chuckle. Gary survived the line. Fun and interesting video. Cheers 🎉 #Club1313
Brickey uttering a mild swear word in Fantasyland reminds me of an old episode of South Park. “Let’s watch Cop Drama tonight. I heard they’re gonna say ‘shit’ on tv.”
I really liked your video. I love Mr Toad's Wild Ride and The Wind in the Willows in general. But here are some problems I had with the video: 1. The Sleepy Hollow dark ride would be absolute garbage. And this is why, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is a very dark story to show to young children, it has a unlikeable main character, all side characters are also unlikeable and have very shallow personalities, and the ride woudn't even last a minute, it would basically be you riding through the forest and being chased by the Headless Horseman until the Headless Horseman would throw a pumpkin at your head and you would die. Here's how the ride would be: You enter a hollowed out Jack-o-lantern that could spin around while in the ride. You first passed through the harvest dance where the dancing folkspeople would be spinning themselves, then you past Brom Bones singing by the fire, and then leave the party into the haunted forest, where you could see the Headless Horseman around every corner. In the final scence, you would approach the bridge, but the Headless Horseman would appear and throw his pumpkin head at you. Complete with a bright explosion effect. See how boring it would be? 2. The Motor Mania short starring Goofy is also known as one of the worst things ever made by Disney, where they turn a recognizeable character and change him into a monster. This short traumatized a lot of kids and parents where returning from the movies with their children crying. So why would it be a good idea to make a ride based on it? 3. How the f*ck, Goofy, which is shown in this short as a monster that kills people for no reason at all, go to heaven in the most peaceful way after murdering a few people while driving, while Toad, who is a completely angelical creature, goes to Hell even though he didn't do anything bad? Goofy deserves to go to hell and Mr Toad deserves to go to heaven! Anyways, that's my outburst. Make sure to respond it. Bye~😘
Lots going on here… Sounds like origins of not just Toad but Autopia. The Headless Horseman not withstanding… He is part and plays a role in the Haunted Mansion origin…
This video is perfect timing. I'm in the middle of reading "Inventing Disneyland: The Unauthorized Story of the Team That Made Walt Disney’s Dream Come True" by Alastair Dallas & Bob McLain. Great book! What's your source for the early Marvin Davis and Bruce Bushman drawings? Cool stuff!
I constantly look at Disney auctions from the past, present and future. Always trying to find little oddities that can spark the idea for a story. That’s where I discovered the brown line and then I’m off to researching. A video like this has days of research to build a true three act story. I’m glad you enjoyed it and I’ll be adding that book to my long list.
Another great history video. And a video bomb of Adam the Woo too!
Super fun history
06:46 Mr Woo’s Wild Ride
A Sleepy Hollow ride on a galloping horse would have been really fun. I want to know how they'd cut our heads off! And Yay for C1313 Friends!
Me too, Amanda. 🪓🎃🐴
That needs to happen in liberty square at magic kingdom.
@@republiccommando1463 Yeah!
Thanks for your deep dives. Enjoy the escapism your videos provide.
❤

Yes please a full video on that pre-Dosneyland1953
I remember motor boat cruise way back in the 1990s
Nice Cameo by Adam The Woo at 6:47
A Headless Horseman attraction would have been a dream nightmare!🎃 Also, hello, Uncle Larry!! 😍 #Club1313
I would have LOVED a Sleepy Hollow ride! I love Toady too ♥️
Nice work. This is actually news to me. Love those Bruce Bushman images.
I am old enough to have seen the last gasp of Beverly Park.
Most surely worth it.
Love all the info in the deep dive videos, and all the great shots of the park and Citizens of Disneyland. Keep up the good work.
Two words that I always look forward to: “Brickey here.” One word I didn’t know meant so much: “fiberglass!”

Love the special guests in this one
💯
I love these deep dives! Seeing those original drawings is a delight. Thanks, Brickey!

Carousel type horses for headless horseman
Mr Toad was my favorite ride.

I love the style of these videos. June gloom adds a nice crispness to it. Really enjoyed learning more about one of my husband's favorite rides.

Yes Brickey, an excellent deep dive. Thanks.
I didn't realize how much the facade for Mr. Toad looks like a mini WDW Haunted Mansion until I saw this angle!
Another great video!
I hope you make a video about the 50 acre plan for Disneyland .
Mr Toad's was always my favorite ride as a boy. So much fun!
Great video. Cameos by Gary, Larry and Adam the Woo! I love seeing how the ideas evolved into the rides we have today. Keep it up Brickey, I'm here for all the videos.
Fascinating, as always! Was that Adam the Woo at 6:47?
Very cool 😎 how you break down the ride Brickey.👊💥
Waiting patiently for Brickey to review Tiana’s from the POV perspective 😊
Riding it Wednesday, video to come.

What a great breakdown of one of my favorite rides! The old concept art is AMAZING! I love learning this stuff from your channel. Please keep it up!
So fun to watch. Keep them coming ❤

I’m pretty sure they did. Incidentally, Pretzel took their inspiration from the bumper cars.

I spied ... Adam the Woo. 🙃
Was that Adam the Woo coming out of Mr Toad’s??
Yes, he's "Mr. I will never come back to California"
Adam the Woo!
great

As always another great addition to your work. I’ll always be here supporting! -Manny Avocado
I don’t get motion sickness, except on the Gravitron, but the rotating barrels sounds like welcome to pukesville.
WOW !!!! … how did you get those old plans … love a copy to study and learn from them … extremely impressed

Hey Brickey!
“Disney spin” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I see what you did there.
Hi Dan! Love your videos! Why do some Seaview models have two rows of windows and others one?
The story behind the story, love the thinking and insights here
Great commentary, sketches quite cool.
could you imagine a steeple chase coaster dark ride. like soap box racers but the horse version. its possible

Sleepy Hallow was planned for WDW to be the Fantasyland attraction leading into Liberty Square. The vehicle was a pumpkin
WDW was to have unique Fantasyland attractions. Roy O. Disney changed that plan after Walt passed
Yes, a breakdown of the 1953 plans would be wonderful
They are crazy different than what we actually get built.
Keep up the good work!
Love it Brickey!
Hyde hides in jekell
Awesome how Adam the woo just walked into your video❤❤❤
As if Adam doesn't get enough attention already, he's always jumping into other people's videos. As if he's giving approval, he needs to Stop
