    Most of you probably didn't even see it, but Tom broke a string right after his first solo and kept going amazingly well.

      Mark What does that have to do with anything? Music isn’t about being better, guitar players have to drop this toxic, immature attitude.

      @jamesdaviesguitar 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Martin Miller I don’t get these new kinda troll comments.. the guy lost straight away by commenting ‘so what? Guthrie is better?’
      Martin is right, if you’re looking at music as a competition then go somewhere else...
      It’s all about perspective and whatever personal music moves you..
      The internet and especially the guitar community has become very sad and bitter

      @Mark Guthrie Govan is a great guitarist, but there is no such thing as the "best", as an OPINION cannot be labeled as a FACT. You could have said "I THINK Guthrie Govan is the best" and left out the "so what?" as it was a significant part of the video that people may have missed. Mature a bit and have a wonderful day.

      @@droiderp true words to live by... At a certain level there is no best... Everyone has something of value to offer, even it the phrase played at that moment might not be the most technically demanding stuff you ever heard. Musicality is what fits the music and there are endless possibilities that fit

      Enroll at Berklee or MI, and practice your scales 8 hours a day. Then when you graduate and "make it" you'll be able to play to an audience of 50 at the famous Baked Potato in North Hollywood a few times a year. Awesome! :)

    Greg as a musician and human is pure class. So many guitarists have appeared to "outshine" Greg but in the greater scheme of things, Greg's solos have been the most creative and mind boggling in electric guitar history. He jams for fun and it's not to try and outdo others...if I knew I was jamming with Greg, I would be ready to go ballistic!!
    Greg knows he has NOTHING to prove.

    Tom breaks a string early on, has a chance to switch guitars, but instead opts to not interrupt the song vibe and moves forward anyway.
    Brilliance. Sheer incredible talent and musicianship and utter professionalism. And yes, all the incredible TQ legato goodness on an LP!
    Greg and Tom: superb work!

    If you have loads of experience improvising over this kind of track with great dexterity and ability to recognise harmonies when you broke a string it actually forces you to improvise with such limitation and therefore forces your brain to be more creative and make the most out of what you have. Damn you Tom Quayle you've just proven another great theory.

    Big GH fan from way back, surprised to see he wasn't doing a lot of his insane tapping and inversion stuff like on Introspection, I guess he had all that incredible stuff, pre - thought up, sitting down in the studio, Im' kind of new to TQ, and trying to play SOME of his stuff too, I will NEVER be able to go on endlessly like them,, both great players! Joe Average Guy, don't have a clue who they even are.. lots of less talented players are rich and famous.

    When I was younger I thought of it as more of a competitive thing who’s better who’s this who’s that it doesn’t matter who’s faster who has a cooler so now the only thing I miss is Having a live band as opposed to backing tracks the days watching Mike Stern and Jaco Pastorius a grand 55 in New York it was magic so the point I’m making is I’m oldI miss musicians playing with other musicians drummer and bass player is a keyboard player sax players they’re all great

  • @TheFutureVirtuoso
    @TheFutureVirtuoso 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Guys, do you realize how many times Greg has probably played over this track? You don't think you'd lose a bit of inspiration after a while? Especially since it's basically just two chords? Plus you gotta take into account that sometimes you just don't "feel it" on particular days. I've heard Greg do mindblowing improvs, but I've also heard ones where (to me) it seemed a bit uninspired. It happens to everybody. Btw, where can I get this track? It's pretty cool.

    Greg broke the limits of shredding rock guitar, introducing new chromaticism taken from jazz, in opposition to what Holdsworth and McLaughlin -who were already in jazz-, did. That´s why all guitar virtuosos are in debt with them. The rest are simply fireworks...

    Thing with Greg Howe is, all his licks sounds natural, feels like usual minor pentatonic but we know it isn't. Same thing with Jimi Hendrix, when he play weird notes sequences (like the solo in purple haze for example), it does add the colour of the song but also feels very natural. Seems like they knows something that others don't about music theory?
