    I saw Tom Quayle live at the Guittar Summit '22. That's a dude! All by visualitation and with a special tuning for the B-string so everything is symmetric.

    Am I causing myself more trouble if I think about Dorian as a minor with a flat 6 vs a major with a flat 3 and 7?

    • @themusicplot7692
      @themusicplot7692  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It all depends on what is easier and faster to you. By the way, dorian has a major 6th, I guess that is what you meant to type but I want to clarify it in order to avoid confusion.

    So there you have it - too many notes :)

  • @dogman5680
    @dogman5680 ปีที่แล้ว

    Finding the notes easier doesn’t necessarily lend itself to a recognizable sound or style like my favourite guitarist’s (Jeff Beck, Robben Ford, Larry Carlton, Mike Landau Frank Gambale etc.) and I think Mr. Quayle might agree…discuss.

    If Tom's room is filled with people who play in standard then he should really consider retuning to standard and teach from that.
    Great player, of course.

    • @edwardjons8684
      @edwardjons8684 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Well no. He said he hasn’t played in standard for 20 years, plus everything he had to say about intervals applies no matter what tuning you use and is not about copying his shapes but about figuring out how the shapes are built up.

    • @henryb160
      @henryb160 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@edwardjons8684 No, you're wrong. "playing" is not teaching and I've heard him in standard tuning (not in a live performance though). Btw, all his lessons for the Steely Dan solos were in standard and were not recorded 20 yrs ago....so he can do it when needs must!

      I mean... I see your point but it's his thing bro. Its what makes him unique, and its part of his playing. If you want to adapt you change, otherwise you learn his language in your own format.
      Its not that hard to be honest. He was kinda lazy for starters, and decided to leave some benefits behind in order to have some other benefits with his new tuning. Thing is, I'm sure if he restarted he would play standard. Its too late for him now. He would be a worse player than he is now for a long time.

      @@henryb160 And if this lesson were about learning songs you’d have yourself a valid point.

    • @henryb160
      @henryb160 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@G_Demolished Well the lesson certainly isn't about playing in 4ths so you are the one who doesn't have a 'valid' point. Or perhaps you just misunderstand thé point of the lesson completely.
