You're absolutely right! It feels like forever since we've had a brand new Donkey Kong Country game. I know so many fans, myself included, are itching to swing through some lush jungles and explore vibrant new levels with Diddy, Dixie, and the whole Kong crew. Hopefully, with the upcoming Switch 2, Nintendo has something amazing planned for us. Here's to keeping our fingers crossed for a fantastic new DKC adventure!

I definitely think the Switch 2 could meet the same fate as the Wii U & that’s largely due to when it’s releasing (Aka too late) The Switch 2 Specs are supposedly going to be PS4 when in handheld & PS4 Pro when docked. It’ll receive new 3rd party titles because it’s close enough to the Xbox Series S in terms of power Issue is the Switch 2 isn’t releasing until next year & it might be later in the yr with how stacked the Nintendo Direct was… Rumours are the next gen Xbox will be coming in 2026…. If that’s true the Nintendo Switch will have less than 2 yrs of being powerful enough to get wide spread 3rd party support…. Wii U had great exclusives but it didn’t matter… the Switch 2 might fail by the very nature of having less than 2 years of relevancy for 3rd party
Nintendo specifically said that this direct wouldn't be abut the Switch 2. So though all of them will be backwards compatible to the Switch 2, none of them will be exclusive. What might happen is that the most recent games (like Metroid 4) will get something similar to BotW where the game gets released on both consoles but one has a slight graphical improvement.
It's STAGGERING to me the number of people who misunderstood Furukawa. They'll likely reveal it in March. We'll either get Switch 2 in Holiday of 2025. More likely, March 2026. So many think Switch 2 is releasing March of 2025. Listen... Switch Advance wasn't going to come out this year. It never was. Y'all keep listening to unsubstantiated rumors. Nintendo was eager to get out of Wii U days. Hence the rush back then. It's different now. The Switch is still selling VERY well. Announcing the Super Switch before the holidays would just hobble sales. They would be worried about it jeopardizing Switch holiday sales. They *weren't* worried back in 2016, because the Wii U wasn't selling regardless.
And yet you don't see Nintendo's pattern?! Let everyone think it's coming in March or May 2025. Spring sounds like the most logical and obvious timing because of the original Switch. Anything later will just prolong everything. Plus they've been cooking new games for a while, so whatever new games we get, will be released throughout the 2025 year. And call it Switch 2, Switch Advanced, Super Switch, whatever... Nintendo will surprise us no matter what.
I'm very certain that we won't be getting a Nintendo Switch 2 announcement until shortly after Brothership releases! That way, all major titles will have had their time to shine, without something bigger overtaking their spotlight
Gotta disagree. That makes no sense. They announce it right before Black Friday, millions would rethink buying a Switch because the Super Switch is four months away. No, they'll announce it in March. Likely release it March of 2026.
My only wish for the Switch 2 is that is can ALSO play 3ds & DS games but only if it has two screens. If the switch 2 has two screens I want to play my old DS and 3DS games in HD. The DS could play GBA games so it's not THAT crazy of a hope
I really think it will be announced in an early 2025 direct because it will cause nintendo to gain a lot more sales, because of the holidays and because the succescor would be released somewhere in the middle of the year causing that year to have strong sales during the months and especially during that holiday. Dont forget that the wii u didnt sell well so thats the reason nintendo wanted the switch to come out fast.
Agree. The WiiU was such a flop that 2016 sales basically didn't matter and they were desperate to get the Switch as the focus. This time round thy still have ambitious sales targets for the Switch and it's software that they could even delay the Switch 2 another year because they are raking it in now.

Nintendo almost makes it already clear that its gonna be announced early next year because donkey kong will release next year, and after that there isnt really a lot more than metroid prime 4 (which i think is gonna be available for the new system on release)
My prediction for the first year Switch 2 games from the first party: 1. New 3D Mario (Launch Title) 2. New 3D DK 3. MK 9 4. New mainline FE 5. New games from dormant IP (Starfox/FZero/Kid Icarus, etc) 6. Games from Monolith Soft (new game or port of Xenoblade X) 7. New IP 8. Luigi's Mansion 4 9. Mario Sport game 10. MP4 and Pokemon ZA could be cross-gen. And also a bunch of third party titles.

I think you make a lot of good points, but I feel like the situation for Mario Party/Mario RPG/Pokemon from back then isn’t quite as… the same as what we’re getting now. Like, I adore Mario Party Star Rush and consider it an underrated gem, but the best I could find for it is that is sold… less than a million units worldwide. Color Splash was on Wii U and was much maligned for looking too much like Sticker Star. And Pokémon is Pokémon, that’s the one of those three that was actually gonna always do well. Compare that to now when Nintendo has actual hype behind the new slate of similar games. Mario and Luigi is a return to form after 9 years of dormancy, two remakes aside. Mario Party is the first new game that really looks like it’s following DIRECTLY in the footsteps of the older Mario Party titles while being new. And Pokémon still Pokémon, still gonna do well regardless. I don’t think this changes anything, but Nintendo HAD to reveal the Switch as early as they did since they were just not at their A game in the late Wii U/3DS era. Now, they don’t really NEED to reveal the Switch 2 so fast. Like, I do still think we’ll see it sometime this year, perhaps in November like you suggested. Perhaps to avoid stepping on Mario and Luigi’s toes and avoid any chance of overshadowing that game so the brothers’ return can be unimpeded by anything. Or maybe we see it sooner in October or even early as September. I dunno, I’m not Nintendo and those folks are always super hard to predict. I just do know yeah, we’re probably gonna see the Switch 2 in 2024 in some regard.
I think it would be a better move for Nintendo to have Pokemon Z-A as a cross console game, Pokemon is a massive franchise so it would definitely drive sales
I agree Metroid Prime Beyond will be the main launch game (probably cross Gen release like BOTW) and Legends ZA will be pushed possibly for the end of year release window “holiday season”
If anything this direct solidified that the new system will absolutely have backwards compatibility (not that I was worried tbh) nintendo always includes backwards compatibility when the systems have similar form factor. And on top of that the heavy pipeline of switch games implies to me that you will be able to purchase these games on the next console
And they’re still not done with game releases for the switch for this fiscal year. So no doubt that 10+ million units they’re trying to sell is getting within sights.
I still think it’d be weird to have the FOURTH game in a series most people haven’t played - and, unlike Zelda, haven’t even heard of - be THE launch title that is supposed to get the general public buying the next system

I don't think you need to worry, most of nintendos systems are backwards compatible and they always are when the systems are similar (wii to wii u, ds to 3ds, Gameboy to Gameboy advance, and hell even Gameboy advance to ds)
It would be stupid to have such great games a strong line up if it won’t work on the next console that’s a dumb business move you don’t keep pushing hard that final year why the Wii U only had color splash as it’s last big game
The only time they have'nt done backwards compatibility is when they had to change things from the ground up. From all that we're hearing though their just building on the foundation of the first switch so that should'nt be an issue. Plus these days they know how important that is to gamers, and it's worth mentioning that Nvidia is the same company that helped them make the first Switch as well. So there is really no reason why it shouldn't be backwards compatible.

At this point, I’m legitimately starting to question whether Nintendo is actually planning on releasing a new console any time soon. At this point, if the Switch 2 is revealed at the very end of the fiscal year and releases around the holidays or even the NEXT year, they’ll only be a year off from the launch of the next PlayStation and XBox.
More likely they will announce switch 2 after the holidays, possibly Feb 2025, but not before. They won't hurt Switch 1 console holiday sales by giving average people something to wait for.

Fiscal end of year is March for Nintendo Japan. Likely announcement before then. 2025 early release doesn’t make sense because of sales and marketing. Original switch was needed then due to the failed Wii U. But I prefer sooner.

As someone who hasn't owned a Switch yet but grew up on Nintendo. I can't wait for the Switch 2. I thought about getting a Switch soon but I think the smart thing is to wait for the new one. There's so many nostalgic games I can't wait to play!

Man, I think Nintendo got so bad in so many ways with the Switch. The 3DS felt so alive having so many pre installed applications and features that the Switch is completely lacking of (think of Streetpass, Miiverse, Face Raider, the immersive home menus and apps like Mii maker with music and so on) It feels like this sort of "Nintendo magic" vanished with the Switch, at least on the software site. I hope the Switch 2 will be a groundbreaking upgrade that will be deeply immersive and offer all kinds of experiences from the Nintendo catalog since Nintendo has so much potential and advantage in that regard over the competition. All it takes them is a little gamble and risk taking but I'm afraid they might avoid that and go the safe route with a pretty much identical system to the original Switch that is only a little more powerful and that's it. These days it feels like everything is about making the quick cash, giving less features with less creativity and soul and charging for them. I want the 3DS experience back and the Switch 2 could be the best opportunity. It would be awesome if they made some sort of 3D Switch or so.

100% agree with you. I like his video, but Nintendo was eager to move on in 2016. The Wii U wasn't going to sell. It's different now. They're aiming for another 13 million sold by March of 25. They're not going to hobble those sales. I hypothesize a March 2025 reveal (right before the end of the fiscal year), and a release of Holiday 2025 *at the earliest*. March 2026 is more likely, so Switch gets that last Holiday season. Maybe with a price drop.
Is it even confirmed that the next console will be a “Switch 2” kind of console? As far as I’m concerned they only ever called it a “successor to the Nintendo Switch”. To me this doesn’t imply that they are making a “Switch 2” kind of console
And yet, why haven't we gotten ports of Zelda TPHD and WWHD on Switch? You think Tantalus, who originally did the TPHD on Wii U, would just simply port it again to Switch, along with WWHD. There doesn't need to be a huge lot of improvements made to them, besides removing Gamepad, Miiverse, & stamps. They've should've been out on Switch before Tears of the kingdom, when it was delayed to 2023. 2022 would've been perfect for TPHD and WWHD, since SSHD came out in 2021. Like what the hell gives?! I think they’re going to reveal the sequel to Mario Odyssey during the switch 2 release and release it in fall 2025 they’re also gonna reveal Pokemon gen 10 in summer 2025 and release it fall 2025
Difference is WiiU did not sell and they were not worried about cannibalizing sales. I would expect announcement December at the earliest after Black Friday sales but it should be in end if January with showcase in March and launch in May or June just in time for summer vacation for people.
It's normal that at the end there could be a lot of games, to end on a strong note. BUT at the same time, I SORT OF think this means Switch 2 Never. This could mean that switch 2 is completely redefined as "the follower". Switch 2 will remain the Nintendo portable machine, and it WILL look for same kind of global success of 20 years as the NES, despite fat cat westerners fantasizing that "nowadays technology just moves along faster." No it doesn't, RICH PEOPLE had a stint of being willing pariticapnts in Apple's planned obsolescence, and updated iPhones in a year or two. THE PURPOSE OF THAT is to take tham back in and refurbish the SAME machines for the second market. That's flagships. Using a quick rotation of flagships only makes you a glorified beta tester. It's not faster technologic growth, it's faster the congolese kids can dig up cobalt for new batteries, and the faster you're printing fiat money to buy it for cheap. Nintendo is moving in to Brazil. they will not outprice themselves out of that market with a big new shiny machine. Switch 2 will be a limited production to meet the access and demand of some westerners. Those who have such a thirst, next to every dinky portable PC that's now coming from the Chinese e-waste pipeline and performs much more admirabl,y with an arbitrated low price set by Gaben. Like charity to disrupt the market, like used t-shirts putting African clothes manufacturers out of business, that was the goal of Steam Deck to crash the prices of these machines. Sufficient FINANCIAL DEMAND, does not exist. You cannot afford what you dream Switch 2 of being. You're not going to buy one at $699 and swap it in a year later for $449 to get your Switch 3.

Joycon drift company would NOT care if people break their slots, but it's an issue of supply line solvency. If the cartridge slot becomes a bottleneck, they can't sell even a single new device past that no matter if its new or refurbished. Random-ass china joysticks, whole another issue. Hall effect sticks, same thing, there's just not ENOUGH of them. Even if you call them "cheap". YOU print out money to get ahead of the line, all prices under the dollar are artificial. It's the gut feeling how much some SAG-AFTRA worker SHOULD move units of currency, to feel "fair" for a gallon of milk. Nah. Nintendo have learned, they have momentum. The Wii was a success but suffered from long periods of no games and was dead at the end. The Wii U literally had nothing of note at launch and no momentum from the Wii. Now people are excited for the Switch successor. People love the Switch, are still fixed into it's ecosystem and want more and Nintendo clearly have taken plans to ensure it has plenty of games for when it launches. It has momentum and hype. The Switch 2 will likely be a 80-100 million seller minimum.

Where I think Nintendo won't announce the Switch 2 in 2024, just because they did Switch 1 in 2016. That is because 2016 was a different place for them, they didn't need to worry about WiiU holiday sales as the console had already flopped. Meanwhile the 2024 projection of sales for the Switch is more for this year alone than what the WiiU sold in it's lifetime. As a results Nintendo don't want holiday sales to be undermined in 2024 as they want big sales of Switch consoles and games, but gave no cares in 2016 when they were desperate to get the Switch out as soon as possible. I expect a official Switch 2 announcement in early 2025.
Late November is my guess, I'm siding with Switch Stop's prediction. Announcing it January makes Zero sense, because that's when they could have a Switch 2 dedicated Direct. No need to push it more back so it releases in fall of 2025. Spring is more of a obvious release timing.

I know so many fans, myself included, are itching to swing through some lush jungles and explore vibrant new levels with Diddy, Dixie, and the whole Kong crew. Nintendo specifically said that this direct wouldn't be abut the Switch 2. So though all of them will be backwards compatible to the Switch 2, none of them will be exclusive. What might happen is that the most recent games (like Metroid 4) will get something similar to BotW where the game gets released on both consoles but one has a slight graphical improvement.

I really think it will be announced in an early 2025 direct because it will cause nintendo to gain a lot more sales, because of the holidays and because the succescor would be released somewhere in the middle of the year causing that year to have strong sales during the months and especially during that holiday. Dont forget that the wii u didnt sell well so thats the reason nintendo wanted the switch to come out fast.
Agree. The WiiU was such a flop that 2016 sales basically didn't matter and they were desperate to get the Switch as the focus. This time round thy still have ambitious sales targets for the Switch and it's software that they could even delay the Switch 2 another year because they are raking it in now.

I think you make a lot of good points, but I feel like the situation for Mario Party/Mario RPG/Pokemon from back then isn’t quite as… the same as what we’re getting now. Like, I adore Mario Party Star Rush and consider it an underrated gem, but the best I could find for it is that is sold… less than a million units worldwide. Color Splash was on Wii U and was much maligned for looking too much like Sticker Star. And Pokémon is Pokémon, that’s the one of those three that was actually gonna always do well.
Compare that to now when Nintendo has actual hype behind the new slate of similar games. Mario and Luigi is a return to form after 9 years of dormancy, two remakes aside. Mario Party is the first new game that really looks like it’s following DIRECTLY in the footsteps of the older Mario Party titles while being new. And Pokémon still Pokémon, still gonna do well regardless.
I don’t think this changes anything, but Nintendo HAD to reveal the Switch as early as they did since they were just not at their A game in the late Wii U/3DS era. Now, they don’t really NEED to reveal the Switch 2 so fast. Like, I do still think we’ll see it sometime this year, perhaps in November like you suggested. Perhaps to avoid stepping on Mario and Luigi’s toes and avoid any chance of overshadowing that game so the brothers’ return can be unimpeded by anything. Or maybe we see it sooner in October or even early as September.
I dunno, I’m not Nintendo and those folks are always super hard to predict. I just do know yeah, we’re probably gonna see the Switch 2 in 2024 in some regard.
I think it would be a better move for Nintendo to have Pokemon Z-A as a cross console game, Pokemon is a massive franchise so it would definitely drive sales
I agree Metroid Prime Beyond will be the main launch game (probably cross Gen release like BOTW) and Legends ZA will be pushed possibly for the end of year release window “holiday season”
The third party line up in the launch window should be better this time around compared to the switch 1.
If anything this direct solidified that the new system will absolutely have backwards compatibility (not that I was worried tbh) nintendo always includes backwards compatibility when the systems have similar form factor. And on top of that the heavy pipeline of switch games implies to me that you will be able to purchase these games on the next console
And they’re still not done with game releases for the switch for this fiscal year. So no doubt that 10+ million units they’re trying to sell is getting within sights.
Their definetly lining up their shot at least, now it's just a matter of getting it in the goal.

I don't think you need to worry, most of nintendos systems are backwards compatible and they always are when the systems are similar (wii to wii u, ds to 3ds, Gameboy to Gameboy advance, and hell even Gameboy advance to ds)
It would be stupid to have such great games a strong line up if it won’t work on the next console that’s a dumb business move you don’t keep pushing hard that final year why the Wii U only had color splash as it’s last big game
The only time they have'nt done backwards compatibility is when they had to change things from the ground up. From all that we're hearing though their just building on the foundation of the first switch so that should'nt be an issue. Plus these days they know how important that is to gamers, and it's worth mentioning that Nvidia is the same company that helped them make the first Switch as well. So there is really no reason why it shouldn't be backwards compatible.

At this point, I’m legitimately starting to question whether Nintendo is actually planning on releasing a new console any time soon. At this point, if the Switch 2 is revealed at the very end of the fiscal year and releases around the holidays or even the NEXT year, they’ll only be a year off from the launch of the next PlayStation and XBox.
More likely they will announce switch 2 after the holidays, possibly Feb 2025, but not before. They won't hurt Switch 1 console holiday sales by giving average people something to wait for.

I’m so glad that ex alpha dream people are working on the new Mario and Luigi game. When it was first revealed I was scared it might lose the charm from the other games in the series
Man, I think Nintendo got so bad in so many ways with the Switch. The 3DS felt so alive having so many pre installed applications and features that the Switch is completely lacking of (think of Streetpass, Miiverse, Face Raider, the immersive home menus and apps like Mii maker with music and so on)
It feels like this sort of "Nintendo magic" vanished with the Switch, at least on the software site.
I hope the Switch 2 will be a groundbreaking upgrade that will be deeply immersive and offer all kinds of experiences from the Nintendo catalog since Nintendo has so much potential and advantage in that regard over the competition. All it takes them is a little gamble and risk taking but I'm afraid they might avoid that and go the safe route with a pretty much identical system to the original Switch that is only a little more powerful and that's it.
These days it feels like everything is about making the quick cash, giving less features with less creativity and soul and charging for them.

I hypothesize a March 2025 reveal (right before the end of the fiscal year), and a release of Holiday 2025 *at the earliest*. March 2026 is more likely, so Switch gets that last Holiday season. Maybe with a price drop.

Difference is WiiU did not sell and they were not worried about cannibalizing sales. I would expect announcement December at the earliest after Black Friday sales but it should be in end if January with showcase in March and launch in May or June just in time for summer vacation for people.

It's normal that at the end there could be a lot of games, to end on a strong note. BUT at the same time, I SORT OF think this means Switch 2 Never.
This could mean that switch 2 is completely redefined as "the follower". Switch 2 will remain the Nintendo portable machine, and it WILL look for same kind of global success of 20 years as the NES, despite fat cat westerners fantasizing that "nowadays technology just moves along faster."
No it doesn't, RICH PEOPLE had a stint of being willing pariticapnts in Apple's planned obsolescence, and updated iPhones in a year or two. THE PURPOSE OF THAT is to take tham back in and refurbish the SAME machines for the second market. That's flagships. Using a quick rotation of flagships only makes you a glorified beta tester. It's not faster technologic growth, it's faster the congolese kids can dig up cobalt for new batteries, and the faster you're printing fiat money to buy it for cheap.
Nintendo is moving in to Brazil. they will not outprice themselves out of that market with a big new shiny machine. Switch 2 will be a limited production to meet the access and demand of some westerners.

Switch 2 will exist but be so different, it really is not a Switch 2. Even if it's a hybrid it will be more like MacBook and iPad.

Nah. Nintendo have learned, they have momentum. The Wii was a success but suffered from long periods of no games and was dead at the end. The Wii U literally had nothing of note at launch and no momentum from the Wii.
Now people are excited for the Switch successor. People love the Switch, are still fixed into it's ecosystem and want more and Nintendo clearly have taken plans to ensure it has plenty of games for when it launches. It has momentum and hype. The Switch 2 will likely be a 80-100 million seller minimum.

Where I think Nintendo won't announce the Switch 2 in 2024, just because they did Switch 1 in 2016. That is because 2016 was a different place for them, they didn't need to worry about WiiU holiday sales as the console had already flopped.
Meanwhile the 2024 projection of sales for the Switch is more for this year alone than what the WiiU sold in it's lifetime. As a results Nintendo don't want holiday sales to be undermined in 2024 as they want big sales of Switch consoles and games, but gave no cares in 2016 when they were desperate to get the Switch out as soon as possible.
I expect a official Switch 2 announcement in early 2025.
Late November is my guess, I'm siding with Switch Stop's prediction. Announcing it January makes Zero sense, because that's when they could have a Switch 2 dedicated Direct. No need to push it more back so it releases in fall of 2025. Spring is more of a obvious release timing.
