I really think that Mario 3d Land is the most underated 3d mario game. Recently I bought the game before the eshop closes and I am really enjoying it up till now. I expected someone to talk about it but nobody even mentioned it. This shows that its really underated and not many people have played the game
Exactly, I don’t get why people hate the 2D Mario games when they’re actually really fun, also off-topic but the last hot take in the video is the coldest take I’ve ever seen
If Mario and Sonic do an actual crossover it should be an rpg like Mario & Luigi since if it were a platformer ,switching between Mario and sonic would be very hard since of their different gameplay styles
My Mario Hot Takes: Super Mario 3D Land is the most underrated 3D Mario game. I was expecting it to be in this video, and it wasn't even mentioned. I love the game a lot. It has one of, if not, the best Mario soundtrack, and the gameplay and personality of the game gave it a unique charm that no other 3D Mario possesses as it actual played like a 2D Mario game in a 3D environment.
@Mrretrogamer1238Nope. It really depends on the situation, and not everybody will suddenly enjoy 3D Land or anything. Also, if something is no longer underrated, it doesn't mean it only becomes overrated.
10:46 either they’re equal or I agree. The movie designs are spectacular, the only reason people could still actively dislike them is because they’re different.
7:37 I think it's better if wario and waluigi serve rival roles in main line stories then main villains. As they are now I think it would be more in character for them to ethier be fallowing you or you so happened to run into them while theh where looking for something. As the no longer have the presents needed to be big bads of a whole story.
I think we need more variety with the antagonists. I’m not gonna be one of those stupid RPG fanboys that says we need RPG characters in the mainline games, but I would like some original antagonists for once like the Broodals in Odyssey.
Well, Waluigi was a character that was created simply as a sidekick for Wario in the Mario Tennis series, so idk if Waluigi would really make an apperance in a main mario game, however, I would love to see wario as a main antagonist again
@@tolstartheking I'm hoping Wart from SMB2 could make a return as a main antagonist. I know it's not gonna happen but I just wish it wasn't Bowser for the millionth time.
I just got a switch and got 3d world because i heard some good stuff about it. As someone who hasnt played any mario games except for a couple of the mario karts. 3d world and especially the bowsers fury is a perfect introduction to the mario series. Bowsers fury was soooo much fun i really loved it
They still own the rights for Mario & Luigi so they *could* make a new game if they wanted to. Honestly though if they did it would probably suffer from the same generalization issues modern Paper Mario has.
Although Bowser's Fury is one of my favorite Mario games, and i've replayed it (100%) 3 additional times (all of my saves are 100% complete). I think they nailed the 3d movement and exploration. As much as I love cap bouncing and the flow in odyssey, I'd want the next 3d game to be more like Bowser's Fury, because its just so fun and beautiful. I did 100% odyssey though.
Super Mario Odyssey's movement is the peak of the series and that's a fact, I literally can't understand anyone who says the movement is better in other 3d Mario games
Hot Take: I like the Mariokart Wii battle stages like chain chomp roulette and thwomp desert that people crap on, but i wish they did more stages like that as it felt so chaotic
@@thebetterderpp7105 I know, but you said that you completely agree with the thumbnail, but you also don’t hate Odyssey and usually calling something “mid” is the most powerful kind of hate.
The movie designs combined with the animation look absolutely amazing! If they could somehow convert the same kind of energy of the animation to a video game it could look amazing with the movie models
@@Benja04 I can’t tell you the amount of times the slippery controls have annoyed me. I’ll stop moving and Mario slides a little bit and the dives can be so inconsistent. It’s either I jump instead of dive or my dive goes another direction. Amd sometimes Mario punches instead of diving. The camera, oh boy the camera. That thing would make everything else not that big of a deal if I could see where I was going.
My hot take is that games that are relatively shallow on launch but will have free updates in the near future (like Nintendo Switch Sports or the mario Sports games on the switch) shouldn't be considered "unfinished" games. That practice is actually not evil. It's a genius compromise between delaying a game and rushing it out. Some people want to play games sooner rather than later, so delaying it will upset them. Others want more substance in their games and would rather wait to play them. The big crucial detail is that these games aren't actually buggy messes like Sonic 06 and pokemon Gen 9. What we get is well polished and enjoyable. So calling them unfinished is kind of a lie. It is finished, but we'll get more of it for free later. Minecraft does the same thing, and nobody complains about that game being unfinished! Using this method, people have the option of getting the game right away or waiting for the free update. If you want it now, you can have it. If you wanna wait, go right ahead. That doesn't mean that the game is bad or that it's released unfinished. It's simply a way for the developers to finish the game and release it on time without rushing it! They aren't evil for doing this. They're just being smart and trying to make everyone happy. We're all just too stupid to realize their brilliance.
i agree Super Mario 3D world was a phenomenal game It was one of my first video game experiences, up there with little big planet and Minecraft, so there is a lot of bias there, but my opinion still stands. the levels are fun, the cat bell controls amazingly, several secrets and Easter eggs, tons of replay value and great post game content, bopping sound track, pretty reasonably difficult, the graphics hold up so well. I love this game, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
Honestly, 64 still has the best controls out of any 3D Mario game. If you think it's "too slippery," then you probably just don't have a very good grasp on how momentum works in the game. I think Mario taking a short moment to stop actually feels great, as it makes Mario feel like he actually has weight. And Mario having that weight allows you to do a lot of cool things. You can pick up quite a lot of speed and you have ways to _conserve_ that speed. You can long jump, dive and rollout, slide kick, or you could even _increase_ your speed if you get a lucky first frame wallkick. If you need to stop on a dime, there are ways to do that, too. You don't slip forward if you land on the ground from the air, even if you're going at absurd speeds.
As a Nintendo fan, I would say through my experience, and the experience of people who have played it that it has aged well. Not compared to other games of the time, but you have to remember that at the time 3d games were in their early stages. So for it's time Super Mario 64 has exceptionally aged well.
My hot take is that just because a game like Bowser's Fury is short, doesn't mean it isn't a "full game" as you say. Heck it's longer than some 2d Mario's. Longer doesn't equal better or more complete. It just means it's longer.
I honestly do think 3D World is better than Odyssey, not because Odyssey is bad, it's excellent, but I honestly think 3D World itself is one of, if not the best mainline title, but that's mostly because I prefer the level-by-level structure over the open world areas that games like 64 & Odyssey have. Also I agree with Ultra Mario here, Super Circuit I enjoyed a lot, and while I wouldn't say it's the best Mario Kart game (64 and 8 Deluxe (and according to my dad, the original SNES game) exist) it's still one of the best. Honestly, most of these opinions are either ones I can't really agree or disagree on or ones I do agree with.
Gotta agree that 3D World is the best Mario game. It takes the more linear approach of the Galaxy games and converts it to a stage-by-stage format like the 2D games. The pacing is flawless, the level design is the best in a Mario game since the 2D era, and the stage-by-stage format allows for more gimmicks to be introduced at any given moment. I also prefer Champion's Road to Perfect Run in difficulty and enjoyment. The fact they brought the 4 playable characters feature from SMB2 is brilliant (plus Rosalina after Star-2).
I think Mario 64 is so iconic it’s just timeless even if you would say the graphics are “bad” of course they are but we still love the graphical style of it
I think the graphics in SM64 have a lot of good charm. Though, I think the overall content and level design didn't really age that well in comparison. Though, the controls are still some of the best I've ever felt.
@@TheAbsol7448 I am going to have to disagree with that. The level design is one of the few things that weren't half bad to me. The controls on the other hand are probably the worst controls out of all the 3D Mario games.
@@PhantomOfficial07 The controls were by far the most fleshed out controls of any 3D platformer I've played. I think a lot of people think it's bad because they don't really understand how momentum works in SM64. Sunshine is the one game that actually has terrible controls.
I actually think mario kart tour is the best mario kart game. The art style fits the mario franchise very well, and I like the controls... for being a mobile game anyway. Updating the game every 2 weeks just keeps me excited for what's coming next, and don't get me started on all the characters. It has the most playable characters in any mario game, and the alts haver very good designs. The music could be better though, although it has been getting better. I mean, pirahna plant cove and athens dash sound like they were from a console game. The gatcha mechanics have been reduced, so now you get to choose which drivers, karts and gliders you want, although they are expensive. The drivers are 150 rubies, new drivers have a discount, setting it to 105, and the karts and gliders are 100 rubies (high end drivers karts and gliders anyway, normal and super take coins, and are pretty cheap). I've actually found a way to keep my rubies at around 100-200 every tour without paying any real money, and also buying new drivers. Then again, I have been playing since before multiplayer was a thing... Oh, and here's a tip to get the controls feeling a bit better. Make it landscape, with manual drift turned off, and steer / drift button display on. Then choose left / right controls that feel good to you. Believe me, the controls will be much easier to master with this setup.
Bro some of the best memories I have is playing 3d world during quarantine with my friends, we would stay up until 2 am and we were so tired so everything we said was funny to us. Unfortunately we only got to 100% the game once because when we were about to finish the game for a second time my online membership expired and we just stopped playing after that.
This goes with whoever’s hot take for Mario Kart Tour: I do enjoy Tour, even though some times it drives me BALLISTIC, the drivers and new tracks are cool, like Nabbit and Pauline included, with the Nitro tracks like the city tracks and ones like Ninja Hideway. And the cartoony or plastic graphics make some tracks look cool or look good, while some tracks look kinda… Meh. But Istill enjoy Tour very much, since I’ve been playing since Jungle tour in 2019 when my dad Introduced it to me, and always will continue to play it.
I'm very surprised that 64 managed to be your favorite Mario game despite not playing it until 2020. I also played it for the first time on 3d all stars and I was very disappointed in how hard it was to get past all that jank,
I'd like to see Nintendo make another Paper Mario game in the same style as Super Paper Mario where the combat is all in real time. No turn-based combat.
15:27 Dude, calm the hell down. It’s just ONE person’s extremely unpopular opinion. No one is getting hurt by it. Let them have their unpopular opinion and respect it and move on. I especially don’t understand what you mean by “people defend Nintendo for it”, literally freaking NO ONE is defending them, this guy said he didn’t mind free updates in your HOT TAKES thread for a REASON. What if they just don’t freaking mind it that much? Is that REALLY a such problem to you Nintendo fans?
3DS Rainbow Road is the worst Rainbow Road in Mario Kart 8. There's no shortcuts or alternate routes, so every race feels the same, and the layout itself isn't all that engaging to me, especially the few turns before the moon. The moon section was also butchered. This is because of the anti-gravity added, which sticks you to the ground, meaning it doesn't really feel like you're on the moon. In fact, modding the game to remove the anti-gravity actually makes the section much more fun, as you actually feel like you're on the moon.
I agree, but for different reasons. I actually like 7’s Rainbow Road quite a bit, but 8ks version sucks. The music doesn’t feel adventurous like in the original, and I think they could’ve added anti-gravity in that spinning section on Lap 3
Didn't see the Twitter post so want to add my take now- I like Mario Party 5 more than any of the other GameCube Mario Party games. People hate the completely random capsules but I think it's what makes 5 special, especially when you can choose to chuck them on the board to cause some absolute chaos.
Idk if this is a hot take or not but I like Galaxy 2 better than Galaxy 1 because it's more polished, better looking and has much more to it. There's Yoshi, changing environments/platforms, cosmic coins which has you explore the levels more, a decent co-op. Yoshi in Galaxy 2 was the best Yoshi in any Mario game since you controlled his tongue with motion control which gave pin point accuracy. Yoshi himself even gets powerups. collecting the green stars in 2 is much better than replaying the whole game as a different character in 1. It also brought back older platforming mechanics and improved upon them like sliders and gliding.
My hot take is that New Super Mario Bros. (DS) is the most fun and creative 2d Mario game, and they really need to learn from their past selves when it comes to bosses in 2d mario games.
Watching through this I just realized how much nostalgia I have for the Mario Series I don't remember even getting past the first boss of Partners in time when I was younger but I love that game, I played 64 on the ds and have nostalgia for that too.
13:53 I kinda agree, Rosalina doesn’t seem like who she was in Galaxy. I personally like to think that personality change happened after the end of Galaxy, which solves quite a few plot gaps with that (minus Luma in MKWii)
My hot takes are that: Odyssey should've been Galaxy 3 then evolved into a better fleshed out Odyssey and continued after there; Waluigi Pinball is one of the best tracks to be added in the Booster Pass and will continue to be; we need a break from Mario-protag games or whichever sports game they would normally do when they do decide to not do a main game where they do more Captain Toad/Yoshi style games, maybe not specifically those characters but maybe give Waluigi his first full game or why not another RPG? Ik the latest Paper Mario kind of takes that spot but at the same time it was also a Paper Mario game and the only character you got to control was Mario, not like the classic RPG specific games
Here's my hot take: Mario 64's controls aren't the greatest, particularly with long jumping and ground pounding as it's extremely easy to accidentally do one when trying to do the other, especially compared to following games
@thewiilegend The long jump doesn't provide that big of a window making it fairly easy to hit the A button first and ground pound by accident, otherwise, you'll end up doing a crawl and back-flip instead if you you're not quick enough, besides, you're typically going to want to be snappy with your button presses with platformers
My main problem with the controls is when turning around. Can't tell you how many times I expect a full turn around, but sometimes Mario does a 360 walk and makes me fall off cliffs.
I think SM64 had the best longjump by an absolute country mile. Did you know that you can longjump _into a wallkick?_ That's something that I _really_ wish carried over to other games. As for ground pounding, I'm not entirely sure what the problem is. It works the same as other Mario games. If you accidentally press A first, you'll do a ground pound, which is how it works in all of them.
Hot take : SMG was way better than SMG2 because of the grandiose/epic aesthetic of galaxy exploration compared to SMG2's lackluster cartoony feeling with little to no exploration. Even with SMG2's new gameplay additions.
My hot-take is that New Super Mario Bros 2 is the best New Syper Mario Bros game. The coin gimmick is a fun new twist to the gameplay. The super leaf returns and controls buttery smooth. The levels are unique and fun to play. The gold flower is a really fun power up to play around with. Coin rush was such a fun mode. And the final boss was just awesome.
@@Pyro03333 if we’re talking about 2D Mario bosses, then I think most of them just feel the same. There are some cool ones like the 7-castle nsmbw Ludwig fight and the ones you two mentioned, but most of them are just way too basic, even for a series as easy as Mario. Boomsday machine from galaxy 2 is goated though, same with most bosses from the galaxies. The rest of the 3D Mario games’ bosses aren’t as good unfortunately
I love super mario 3D world. It's my second favorite game of all time (after super mario odyssey). I truly dont think it should be crapped on as much as it is. It's not a bad game.
My biggest hot take is that Mario Party 9 is one of the most underrated Nintendo games of all time, and most people who hate on it haven't given it a proper chance. People may feel that the car mechanic was an unnecessary gimmick, but to me it gives the boards a great sense of progression. The Mini Stars are a great mechanic, and honestly I'd argue, they fit the Mario Party series better as a reward system than that of the star. There's just something satisfying about steadily building up your Mini Star count over time. Another complaint that many people have is the fact that the game offers little to no strategy, which is something I have to disagree on. When you're behind in a game, you always have a decent chance of catching up. The captain Mini Games, the extra dice blocks, Bowser Revolution, and battle for half of your mini stars are all skill-based, and they make the game have a great balance between luck and skill. Besides, Mario Party is supposed to be mostly luck based with a decent amount of skill, just like every other Mario Party. The Minigames in Mario Party 9 game are on point, with not that many luck-based ones. I genuinely can't think of a single minigame, that isn't fun (besides the luck based ones.) They all offer a unique experience, with lots of creativity, and unlike what most people think, they appear about once every round as well, not to mention the awesome boss fights, the big variety of Bowser Junior minigames, The boards feel super lively with great, memorable music on every single one of them. There are always some extra details, which make the boards really well themed. Every board is dealt into segments, and every segment feels unique from one another. I especially love the nervy segment in Magma Mine when the magma is slowly rising, and if it hits you, you lose half of your mini stars. You can screw your opponents over by choosing a direction which guarantees them to get hit by the rising magma. Every board has a cool Captain Minigame where the captain makes a decision on who does what (depending on captain minigame you're playing.) These games are really fun, and they give the captain some control, trying to maximize their chances of collecting some mini stars, and minimizing their 'number one threat' of receiving some. Also, Mario Party 9 is the the game in the series with the biggest selection of boards with a grand total of 7. My favorite part of the game though, has to be the single player campaign. People tend to complain about Mario Party only being a series for multiplayer, while completely ignoring the fact that Mario Party 9 has the best single player experience in the series (seriously if you have the chance, try it.) It all starts out with Mario and his friends starring at the beautiful mini star-scattered sky, before Bowser and his son (Bowser Junior) decide to ruin the moment by pulling all of the mini stars in with some zapper-thingy. Mario and his friends then proceed to go out on a mission to recover all of the stolen mini stars. Simple but sweet, and the most fun I've had with a single player campaign in the Mario Party franchise. If you haven't yet, I'd highly recommend giving Mario Party 9 a proper chance. It's a lot of fun.
I actually really liked wave 1, it might even be my favourite wave. Sure, the tracks are visually less detailed than the other waves or especially the base game, but they are just so fun to play on in a way that very few other tracks in the game are. Tracks like Coconut Mall, Shroom Ridge and Paris Promenade are all contenders for an S-tier track in my opinion and Ninja Hideaway is my favourite track to play on in possibly the whole series even. That's a whole half of the wave that I consider to be among the best courses in Mario Kart 8 and the other half of the wave is also pretty solid and still okay at worst. The other waves, however, only have like 1 or 2 tracks per wave that I would hold at the same high as the wave 1 tracks, and each wave after wave 1 also has at least 1 track that I absolutely don't like at all. The super plasticky artstyle of wave 1 is also kinda charming in its own unique way and I definitely don't hate how they look either.
My hot take is that sunshine is hot garbage and is really overrated. I can’t stand the controls. There so slippery. I HATE the fact that you can’t get whatever shines you want when you want like 64 odyssey and heck even the galaxy’s. And trust me,some of the shines you have to get are down right frustrating. People complain about how odyssey has to many moons, and I’d admit,it does. But at least they give you hints of where they are unlike the blue coins. And I’m sorry,I just don’t like that game. I’d rather play any 3D Mario game over sunshine.
My hot take: super Mario bros 3 is over rated. It’s not a bad game, but I genuinely don’t understand how people think it’s the best one. It doesn’t even break top 10 for me. The level designs just aren’t that great in my opinion. I prefer any of the new super Mario bros games to it. I love super Mario bros 3, but I feel like there is so many better Mario games.
I love how the one about creativity was proven completely wrong by Mario Wonder, which was one of the most creative 2D Mario games, especially compared to the New Super Mario Bros series
The reason I don't have a problem with the older games that were released unfinished is simply because I don't have to worry about it because, well, they're finished. I never want them to do it again, but I don't care when it comes to the older games anymore.
My hot take Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon was the best game in the trilogy I actually like the mission based format and the ghostly catching was perfected in this game
I completely agree that galaxy 1 is better than 2. Idk what it is but galaxy 2 doesn't really feel like a galaxy game to me. It's not a bad game by any means but it feels like just an average everyday Mario game. It's probably that half the levels have a blue sky with clouds like normal, the appearance of yoshi, and the soundtracks definitely have a different style in galaxy 2 which are closer to other Mario games.
Galaxy 2 feels like DLC stretched out into its own game. It's a good game and it makes great use out of the various mechanics, but I prefer Galaxy 1's structure and presentation.
My hot take is Mario is secretly Bruce Wayne because somehow he’s soloing an entire army - I get how he did it in the first Mario Brothers game because they weren’t even on alert for him till basically the end and didn’t even fight bowser.
Hot Take: Super Mario 64 is highly overrated. I found the controls to be slippery, the camera to be trash, and the level design to be unfair and obnoxious.
With your unfinished games hot take, I disagree. I really don't care if the games are unfinished or not. What should really matter is if it's fun or not
@@whydouexist3487 If the price is higher than its value then it is a scam! Mario Strikers Battle League has a price of a complete video game while it is incomplete! The very definition of a scam! Mario Odyssey is easily the worst 3D Mario Game, the devs definitely went quantity over quality with this entry and plastered so many boring moons over the world that are either mind-numbingly easy or soul-crushingly tedious to obtain. Any sort of challenging yet fun content that Galaxy 2 and 3D World had is replaced with boring "exploration" for unfulfilling moons.
I kinda agree w the all stars and advance versions of the games being the definitive version….ofc I’d rather go back and play the originals but something ab the updated ones is so great.
Why not just wait until these “unfinished” games receive the free content before you buy them? Like do you really need to play it now? Just wait… getting free updates shouldn’t be something to complain about. If you feel it was “too early” to be released or it’s “not worth $60” then wait until you FEEL it’s worth your time and money… just a thought.
By the time the games have a decent amount of content, they would have fallen out of relevancy, so it would be harder to say, make videos on them, or get your friends to play them, it's hurting both the Consumers and Nintendo with this.
Heres a massive hot take: 64ds controls better than the original. 64ds fixes 2 control issues that the original had, the first & bigger one is the camera while the second one is how side flipping works.
15:36 It actually could make sense because if they make everything it's going to come later and so unfinished games with later updates are like having a part of the game earlier, but i feel like the first part should come like as s free demo and then the finished game should be full-priced
I fully agree with the Super Mario 3D World opinion. Such a shame that my best friend doesn't like the game somehow and I can't seem to get him into it. I wish I had some friends to play it with.
I once played the game with 3 of my friends and it's pure chaos and fun, it's also really fun with sibilings, I played the whole game with my 6 year old sister and it was so much fun
I agree with the take on sm64, I played it and enjoyed it, but then I played the other two games in 3d All-Stars, and realised that I much prefere the (more restrictive, yes) much smoother feel Galaxy had to me. I also really like the spin as a form of mid air correction that is not too powerful (cough cough Peach' dress). In sm64, I constantly find myself getting annoyed at the level design, which is creative but dated, the castle I don't particularly find that enjoyable to explore, and for me the final straw is the bumbing your head when wall jumping thing, it bogs down the gameplay so much.
I do think Galaxy feels smoother, but a lot of that has to do with the differing framerates. And while Galaxy feels great to play, I think its gameplay only really works for Galaxy, whereas it'd feel kinda bad in an actual sandbox. (I think the Thwomps Fortress level in Galaxy 2 feels weird, whereas Beach Bowl Galaxy feels like it was actually designed around Galaxy.) I think SM64 feels a lot better because there's so much more you can do with the controls. Sunshine would also be great if Mario actually controlled well. The mechanics are all very cool concept, but I hate how there's no sense of momentum. Mario feels very twitchy and awkward, and not grounded at all.
@@TheAbsol7448 That's completely fair of course! I guess it helps that I prefer the more tight and linear style of galaxy over the sandbox style of sm64, but that's just personal preference :)

I think we need more variety with the antagonists. I’m not gonna be one of those stupid RPG fanboys that says we need RPG characters in the mainline games, but I would like some original antagonists for once like the Broodals in Odyssey.
Well, Waluigi was a character that was created simply as a sidekick for Wario in the Mario Tennis series, so idk if Waluigi would really make an apperance in a main mario game, however, I would love to see wario as a main antagonist again

yeah! they could just make a new studio for mario rpg games! nintendo is too scared to do anything original these days!!
They still own the rights for Mario & Luigi so they *could* make a new game if they wanted to.
Honestly though if they did it would probably suffer from the same generalization issues modern Paper Mario has.

As much as I love cap bouncing and the flow in odyssey, I'd want the next 3d game to be more like Bowser's Fury, because its just so fun and beautiful. I did 100% odyssey though.

"There are no more Mario & Luigi games"
So, uh, about that....
I wasn't on your side until you mentioned minecraft. Now that I think about it your completely right.
The homebrew Luigi version of Mario 64 on the 3ds was making me smile recently. It aged well and is super fun.
i agree Super Mario 3D world was a phenomenal game
It was one of my first video game experiences, up there with little big planet and Minecraft, so there is a lot of bias there, but my opinion still stands.
the levels are fun, the cat bell controls amazingly, several secrets and Easter eggs, tons of replay value and great post game content, bopping sound track, pretty reasonably difficult, the graphics hold up so well. I love this game, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
"alphadream has gone out of business and there will be no more mario and luigi games" 14:40 WE BACK NOW WITH SOME OF THE ORIGINAL DEVS!
I think nothing about the game has aged well. It's not a bad game, but it's overrated AF.
@@PhantomOfficial07 The level design aged pretty poorly, but the controls are still top notch.
At this point we all sound like broken records but Mario should really do a Donkey Kong and use non-tile-based Levels

Loved the video! Also thanks for including my comment at 8:21 :)

I like Mario Party 5 more than any of the other GameCube Mario Party games.
My hot take is that all the boring circuit tracks added to the booster course pass have had some of the best remixes

Super Mario 64 has aged well.
In terms of the music. Yeah. But gameplay wise & level designs? No.
Mario kart tour is actually really good and the only reason people don’t like it because they haven’t played it
Peach Gardens got ruined in MK8D
The final lap going backwards feels awkward and jarring.
Here's my hot take: Mario 64's controls aren't the greatest, particularly with long jumping and ground pounding as it's extremely easy to accidentally do one when trying to do the other, especially compared to following games
im sorry but i disagree, its not like you have to press them at the same time, its a pretty generous timing window
@thewiilegend
The long jump doesn't provide that big of a window making it fairly easy to hit the A button first and ground pound by accident, otherwise, you'll end up doing a crawl and back-flip instead if you you're not quick enough, besides, you're typically going to want to be snappy with your button presses with platformers
My main problem with the controls is when turning around. Can't tell you how many times I expect a full turn around, but sometimes Mario does a 360 walk and makes me fall off cliffs.
That’s literally the truth
I think SM64 had the best longjump by an absolute country mile. Did you know that you can longjump _into a wallkick?_ That's something that I _really_ wish carried over to other games.
As for ground pounding, I'm not entirely sure what the problem is. It works the same as other Mario games. If you accidentally press A first, you'll do a ground pound, which is how it works in all of them.

I genuinely can't think of a single minigame, that isn't fun (besides the luck based ones.) They all offer a unique experience, with lots of creativity, and unlike what most people think, they appear about once every round as well, not to mention the awesome boss fights, the big variety of Bowser Junior minigames,
The boards feel super lively with great, memorable music on every single one of them.
I actually think we need more 2D games.
I think if it was me i would have completely destroyed some of these hottakes.
if SM64 was remade in 2020 rather that ported it would be one of the best video games of all time, hands down.

My hot take is that I can live without a 2D Mario because 99% of the time 2D is new sup vs other games like odyssey and 3D All-Stars

Hot Take: Super Mario RPG (1996) has the best story for any Mario game, and none of the later RPGs (Paper Mario/Mario and Luigi) even come close.
(I think the Thwomps Fortress level in Galaxy 2 feels weird, whereas Beach Bowl Galaxy feels like it was actually designed around Galaxy.)
I think SM64 feels a lot better because there's so much more you can do with the controls.
@@thijmendol8248 I think both games feel great to control overall. I think Galaxy is a much better game overall, though. 64's content and level design didn't age nearly as well as its controls. Whereas Sunshine mostly had the opposite problem...
I Love Mario 3D World, but saying that it has better music than Galaxy is kinda insane, Buoy Base Galaxy, Space Junk Galaxy, Melty Monster Galaxy, Gusty Garden Galaxy, Good Egg Galaxy, The Sarship Sails are unmatched OSTs in the mario franchise IMO, also Odyssey's Player movement is by far the best, Sunshine and 64's player movement is very good, but not as good as odyssey.
7:00 that sure is a hot take, but how are we gonna pay rent.
thanks for putting my comment in the video :D It made my day
When I first saw Mario and Luigi in the Mario Movie, I just thought of Super Mario Odyssey
I like the Odyssey design
