    I would call this the standard recipe for chili sauce. I like some mustard and raw onions on the dog with this.

    I made this recipe, today. I had no tomato sauce so I went just a little heavy on the catsup and added a pinch of cinnamon. Sample was amazing. We'll be doing our Nathan's natural casing hot dogs, later and put it to the test.

    I live for Chili Dogs and especially for a good Chili Sauce!! Being from the Detroit area and now living in Florida, I had to come up with my own recipe, because I can't find anything close to the magic I so miss.
    Just made me a batch 2 nights ago, but I like to check out other recipes out here on TH-cam. Good stuff Chef!!
    You are so right too, a good chili sauce goes good on so many things other than just Hot Dogs!

    Just made this today. Except i went to the store and just assumed i had tomato sauce. So i used tomato soup instead. And i added 1/3 a pound of ground beef liver for stronger taste.

    I also make Chili Sauce. In fact I made some earlier. But I like mine to taste more like Coney Island Sauce on a hot dog. Our techniques are pretty much the same. But besides all of the ingredients we both use, I also add Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, cumin and celery salt.

    Would this also be good on Nachos? We run a youth ballpark and currently use canned chili with no beans for chili dogs and loaded nachos and cheese. Looking to make some upgrades and get away from canned goods

      Amazing question. I wish I could say yes but I'm not 100% sure. I have never tried it. I don't see why it would not work. Give it a small test at home and see. I might myself tonight if I do I will let u know how it turns out. If you try it before me please let me know.

      I just use the common chili powder. But if you have an ancho chili powder or something u really like by all means use that

      It all depends on how big your dogs are and how much u want on them. I would say 8 no problem 12 at most if you only add a little to each dog

      Fantastic question. Browning the beef gives it's a different texture and flavor. So by simmering it in the water gives it a softer texture

      Great question. Ketchup has other things in it other then tomato. It helps bring out other flavors that complement each other. Just plain tomato sauce is Bland and can be bitter.

    Could you not just simmer the meat until most of the water is evaporated then add the ingredients to make the sauce? I'm a single man and the less I have to wash the better.

      I'm getting ready to make another batch right now, think I will use your method again, I really liked your method, the consistency was perfect.
