I’m from Middle East and we don’t have woodpecker, i came to America 5 years ago and I heard a noise thought it’s a machine or just a maintenance after i knew its a woodpecker I was super surprised. سبحان الله🙌🏼
I have never seen them. I heard it for the first time this week in June 2022. I could not understand what made this sound. Then one close by resident told me , that it was sound of wood packer. And I am 63 years old and I could not say it. I still have not seen woodpecker in wild. Thank you for this video.

But at the angle he is I think he looks bigger but may only be about 2’. WHICH IS STILL *HUGEEEEEEE* for a WoodPecker! He has THE PERFECT coloring! Such a VIVID “HOT 🚒 RED” Color! My favorite color 🛑! I wish I could make him my OUTDOOR “Back Yard” Pet!

First time i saw a woodpecker i walked out my front door of my apt. The maintenance man who was latino and speaks very little english was doing some yard work. We both heard the sound of the woodpecker drumming and looked around, suprised by how loud it was. At the same time we saw the tiny bird in the tree right above us. with his red mohawk he really stood out. Then the maintenance man broke the silence by pointing to it and very enthusiasticaly exclaiming "ITS A LIL WOOD PECKER" his thick accent made it sound so funny and im sure he knew that because we both laughed pretty hard about it.
One of my therapist told me to pick something from all the 5 senses when I'm having anxiety. What do I see, hear, smell, taste, feel... One morning I was feeling so bad (mentally) but I could hear the woodpecker. Helped me so much.

I wonder what it's doing between the drummings. Taking a break and enjoying the weather? Thinking about whether to contact that hot woodpecker it dated last week? Trying to listen for insects inside, panicking? Meanwhile, on the tree behind it there are lots of ants casually going by, not a care in the world and unaware they could be food any second now - if only the woodpecker turned around and saw them.
One of the most amazing animals in the world, woodpeckers can somehow know where insects are in the tree's and they drill holes into the tree with their beaks this gets rid of the pests and saves the forest
We have something similar in CA -- the one I watch is a real character and quite beautiful. We also have Flickers -- also woodpeckers, bigger -- destroying our barn. I wonder if they were driven out of their original habitat or if they learn barn-wrecking from their parents?

I think it doesn't peck that fast, it really bounces its beak off the tree's bark.
Theres been been a bird pecking at my side of the wall waking me up in the morning making this same exact machine gun sound.

They have a long tongue that they wrap around their brain to prevent it from moving so they cant get concussed
