If you analyse it, it's about unrequited love but the setting adds context and so it was a happy song for us and (hopefully!) our guests

At the end of July 2019, waiting at Kelvin grove bandstand in Glasgow for Suede to come on and 'Yes' came over the PA System. I was surprised by how many Suede fans thought this was controversial with some voicing concern that members of Suede might not be ok with this. Was funny.

He's smart not to mention it, of course, name-dropping Scott Walker and Dusty Springfield instead, but 'Yes' OWES HEAVILY to The Righteous Brothers' You Lost That Lovin' Feeling (his father's favourite song), combined with John Barry's 'You Only Live Twice' strings. And Mcalmont & Butler's 'Falling' (2004) is even more spectoresque ( 'Unchained Melody').
