I wish I could use my air compressor but it’s on the other side of the house, good tip with the computer compressed air! I would have never thought about that as a solution! Also, don’t use that toothbrush again if using it, lol! Great video 👏
Dude - I feel like a total moron for all the time I spent trying to get this thing down, not thinking to take out the lightbulb and look for a screw. All the other videos say to look for spring clips. The fan is original to my 34yr old house, purchased a year ago. It sounded awful, and the built in heater smelled like a house fire waiting to happen. Ventilation was questionable at best. I did have to, um, persuade the metal housing a bit to get rid of some rattle. I was going to replace it - shit ton of work there - but now it seems just fine, other than a little bit of rust. I can gladly live with that. Thanks so much!

FWIW - Every ceiling fan I have ever installed allows you to remove the platten with the fan/motor attached from the housing that mount between the studs. There is generally one 1/4 inch hex-head screw fastening one side of the fan bracket. It should be 1/2 to 3/4 inches from the edge of the housing. Once that is removed, you can swing the fan assembly down and out of the unit. You must remove the black plug to the fan first.
You are welcome. Different models do allow you to do that and it would give you an even better clean because you could get all sides of the fan blades.

If the fan still makes loud noise, do you recommend using WD-40 silicone lubricant on the point where the shaft of the fan connects to the fan assembly in the center or May be even apply 2 drops of oil to it? Also is it absolutely necessary to turn off the circuit breaker even if I power off the exhaust fan main switch that I use to turn the exhaust fan on or off?
A silicone lubricant would work better than wd40. Be careful not to spray it on any of the electrical connections though! Safety is important and I always turn off breakers. Just a few extra moments to ensure safety is always worth it every time.

But when I turned on the fan, there is a VERY loud screeching noise coming out of it as if the blades of the fan are colliding each other. I turned the fan ON multiple times but still same issue. So I guess it’s time to change the fan now, right?
Yes it does! The same one. I’m actually about to do a replacement motor video in the one that had a light issue. I’m waiting for the part to come in and then I’ll be making a video on that.
Really anything with very low scones (under 1) would be best. There are so many options out there. Many now have variable speeds too. So if you need more more exhaust for a shower you can turn it up to high (more CFMs). I’ve always had good luck with Broan-Nutone exhaust fans. Low maintained and last a long time.
Hi MC Fix it I have kind of a dumb question for you lol so our maintenance person came to clean the fan today but a few hours after he left the ventilator fan is making worse noises than before almost as loud as a car engine. With that being said it does also have a light bulb attached like the one you fixed (bc it’s ancient) can I just open it up, remove the motor fan and keep the bulb on my own? Please help thanks!
You should be able to unplug it from the receptacle and only have the light on. Be careful though, because you can cause mold in your bathroom without proper ventilation.
My problem is that the fan rattles violently when it’s off. My upstairs neighbor turns their fan on and mine rattles. It won’t stop until I turn mine on. I live in an apartment.
Sounds like a ventilation issue. Do you see many outdoor vent locations to where the air is being pushed? It might be on the roof or side of the apartment. How many units are in your apartment building?
@@MCFIXIT I’m on the 1st floor there are 3 additional units above me. Vent shaft is on the roof. Maintenance says the problem is there but they do nothing about it. They say just run the fan. I say tell them to turn theirs off, apparently they won’t.

My fan looks just like this on the outside. It’s a Nautilus tho. Is Broan and Nautilus the same?

That’s super frustrating! It does seem to be an issue with the amount of units then. Hopefully the other units will listen and the issue will go away
What if the fan motor still makes lots of noise even after its been cleaned out
You may need to replace the fan. I’ve got another video where I do this on my channel with our other bathroom that had that issue!
