I've been using the same set of DDR4 since I jumped on first gen Ryzen in 2017. 4 x 8Gb G Skill Flare X 3200Mhz CL14 (Samsung B-Die). When I swapped motherboard and CPU to X570 and a 3900X, I spent hours tuning that RAM kit. Been running it at 3800Mhz CL14 with very tight subtimings ever since, and still do with my 5800X3D. Only needs 1.5 volts lol. The difference between my tuned settings and the XMP profile can be very significant in some games, but as you expertly demonstrated, the gains are really only there when you're CPU limited.
A guy at work told me he was having stuttering issues with his 3200mhz ram speeds. His setup is an i9 9900k and an rtx 3080. He swears up and down that when he switched to Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 3600mhz, it improved his 1% lows, fixing his stutter issues and smoothing out his gameplay. I have an i7 9700k paired with an rtx 3060 ti, and my ram speeds are 2133mhz, but I have xmp enabled, giving me 2400mhz. I'm on the fence about buying the 3600mhz ram. Would I really benefit from doing so and getting a much smoother gaming experience?
Depends on the game, but in general yes. I have i7 12700k with 32gb ram and 3080 gpu. I used to stutter alot on ac odyssey and dead island 2 without xmp. So i enabled it, turned off hyperthreading and e cores (e cores are mostly for multitaskers/content creators and without the e cores, the p cores can run more efficiently, resulting in better fps. You will also see an increase in cpu usage, but that's totally fine.) If for some reason your games are crashing, just lower the ram clock speed (frequency) in bios by 200 and test untill it's stable.
@custer4211 Thanks for the info, I just might get the faster RAM then. I do plan on getting a 5080 possibly. But I might need to buy a bigger PSU. Mine is an EVGA 80+ Gold 750W. What do you think?
@@iguardwisconsinberry8830 find some more info about it. I also heard that the very fast ram sticks don't operate well with 4 sticks on certain mb's. Im not really sure if it's about ddr4 or ddr5 or both, so DYOR. I myself not someone that needs the best and totally happy with my 32gb (2 sticks) at 3600 thanks to xmp. And i recently found out about frame generation so that brings very good news for rtx 2000 and 3000 cards and that we probably won't need to upgrade for a while.

Very nice presentation and very close to what I'm seeing on my Ryzen 7600 when I switched to faster ram. The only game I saw a marked increase was Ultimate Admiral: Dreadnoughts (a very CPU intensive game) when I upgraded from 5200/CL42 to 6000/CL30. Ryzen is well know for loving fast ram and I'm curious if an Intel rig would show lesser results.
Thanks! Could I ask what GPU you’re running? I wonder whether we’d see more substantial differences with a 4090 that needs a lot of feeding from the cpu/ram

I have had 2 seprate kits of 2x8GB Corsair LPX 3200 CL16-18-18-36 run at 3600Mhz CL18-22-22-42 with no problems. I just input the settings from a higher end kit. Its barely noticable, maybe 2% faster in horizon zero dawn benchmark at 720p. Factorio 5% faster. With Ryzen 3700x

Only one bad point for running xmp on, then the cpu runs hotter.
No it doesn't
