When Mike Catt hung up his boots for good in 2010, after 76 England caps and a Rugby World Cup win seven years earlier, one Australian newspaper ran with the headline ‘Jonah Lomu’s speedbump retires’.
The utility back had felt the full force of the All Blacks’ latest superstar in one of the iconic moments at Rugby World Cup 1995, but he was not alone. During the tournament the rugby world was put on notice as an international rookie - aged only 20 and with two caps to his name - redefined what was possible on the playing field.

ABS were at the peak in this era now its just not the same feel like Rugby is to commercial with to many divas now not worth idolising but Jonah was defs a legend with a character

What an absolute legend of a man, Jonah u were the greatest, nobody will EVER fill your boots, U are the reason I started watching rugby, U were a beast on the pitch, and an absolute gentleman off it, we miss u mate.

That second try he got was amazing in how easy he made it look. The defender was perfectly set, totally ready to make the tackle, and Lomu went past him like he wasn't even there. As if Lomu's size, strength and pace weren't scary enough, here he is side-stepping like an absolute demon. He was the complete package on offense.

We took a fucking hammering that day, but in hindsight it has become much easier to swallow as Lomu was such a gentleman and legend.

So many years later.... still the greatest player to watch. I'm South African.... a born Boks supporter.... I watched Jonah in 3 of the games in the '95 RWC including the Final. It brought us such pleasure to watch him. We won the final but had we lost it would have been no shame losing to the AB's and the Greatest Wing to Ever Play The Game..... R.I.P. Jonah

South Africas head of security and who himself had been Nelson Mandela's Security chief came out and signed a public affidavit attesting to the fact that the All Black squad were poisoned before the match. It was nt a story made up by the NZ team and in fact the story only came out after the match.
The odds were hugely in NZ's favour before the game and the bookies made a fortune that day. Ultimately NZ made amends when they came back in the following year without Lomu and won the very first test series on SA soil. It was also the beginning oif NZ dominance over SA
Since that final they have played 55 times and SA have only won 15 of those games.
