Our Norwegian composer Johan Halvorsen, a worldclass composer in every detail, enjoy every second of his mastership, then come to Norway, the most hospitabel and beautiful country on this planet, yea be prepared, it's extremely expensive here, but worth while

I especially like this because it starts out right away with no digital buffering and no ads.

Well, Jim, no ads YET. Don't wait for the vultures to find this lovely work as prey. As for me, I use the ASP ad-killer. It really works! Everyone should have it. TIS FREE!

Adblocker. I don't know how people have made it to the year 2023 without remedying the issue of ads in music videos. It is literally a matter of typing one sentence, and clicking your mouse 3-5 times to never see an ad on TH-cam for the rest of your life.

Cor, thanks for starting me off on the names of the movements. Here are their locations within the video:
    Intrada: 00:00
    Air and variations: 05:20
    Gigue: 16:12
    Sarabande: 20:51
    Bouree: 24:41
It also helped that Armonia changed the picture for each movement. The air & sarabande are not for the impatient. :-)

I especially love the Sarabande. I recently watched the 1993 film Shadowlands, and the music that plays over the closing credits seems to be eerily reminiscent of the Sarabande.

Very attractive music from a younger relative (by marriage) of Grieg--- from the incidental music of a play about Holberg- who's time Grieg's great suite was inspired by...

In 1911 Johan Halvorsen composed incidental music for a production of Ludvig Holberg's play The Lying-in Room and later arranged the music into his Suite Ancienne Op. 31. The suite in five movements contains some of Halvorsen's most descriptive musical output. In harmony and instrumentation, he bursts the bounds of his baroque canvas, imbuing his music with the unmistakable stamp of Neoclassicism. The five movements consists of: 1. Intrada, 2. Air con variations, 3. Gigue, 4. Sarabande, and 5. Bouree. This work may be played as a complete entity or each of the movements may be performed individually.

Överraskande vacker och senromantisk musik komponerat med stor känsla för melodik och harmoni.

Nydelig stykke, men jeg vet ikke hva de 5 satsene heter, bare at en sats heter Air con variazone.

Also, an earlier recording of this has just been posted. Great performance, spirited playing; unfortunately, the Sarabande movement is missing from it. But still worth sampling.

Here I am again! There is a Halloween motif in the latter part of this work. Wonder if that was original or borrowed. Also I caught the Brit Isles folk ballad, "I'll Go No More A-Rovin.'"

+Roger Wilco Great stuff, I agree. And I would like to see Halvorsen's Norwegian Dances, which appear on X-Box, transferred here to TH-cam as was done with Svendsen's Norwegian Rhapsodies, also very good.

Roger Wilco Try Halvorsen's Fossegrimen Suite as well, taking particular note of the "Fanitullen" movement which ends the presentation. In it the Hardingfels solo is completely on its own, with a very unique sound. I would wonder what you might think of the entire suite altogether.

You can tell that Johan Halvorsen was inspired and influenced by the music from Mozart.

    • @heterosectional

There is no resemblance to Mozart motifs or style anywhere in this piece. You are somehow deluded.
