But I'd love this story to be recovered, only because not a ton of people know much about it outside of it's missing episode status. If not recovered, it should at least be animated. It would probably be some filler between other major projects, but I think it would work.
People didn't think much of "Enemy of the World" until it was discovered! Hopefully it will be found to be appreciated for it's vision, scope and not being a typical Troughton story .
I'm old enough to remember seeing it on transmission, and watched the recon recently. It's much better than its undeserved reputation, and like The Enemy of the World, if found, seeing it would change a lot of people's minds.
Listening to this on video is a hoot! The plot is clunky and Jack May's accent as General Hermack is curious to say the least. Gordon Gostelow walks off with the whole show, even if he is as broad a caricature of an Old-West gold miner as you'll get. He's having fun so you have fun listening to him. There really isn't enough for the three leads to do. Would it make me forget about longing to see Fury of the Deep come back? No but it would at least be more of Patrick's Doctor. Wendy talking about Esmond Knight's glass eye was lovely. Thank you for this Josh.
I know this was a while ago but do you remember if you asked Wendy if she remembers what sort of costume Esmond Knight wore? Since there's no surviving photos of Dom Issigri and all.

A lot of the behind the scenes on classic who always fascinated me. This is very much one of them, Spearhead is another and of course Shada (which is a given).
I met this lovely woman at the Long Island convention last year. What really makes this story incredible is that she stayed in the room RIGHT NEXT TO MR in the hotel we stayed at! She was, of course a wonderful woman, and she called me “a lovely man.”
I have a soft spot for The Space Pirates since experiencing the story after marathoning Doctor Who on twitch. It's better than people give it credit for and much like The Smugglers it tends to get forgotten in the grand scheme of things.

I had read somewhere The Space Pirates was one of the few Doctor Who stories that did not have telesnaps taken when it was broadcast in 1969, so a telesnap reconstruction of the 5 missing episodes with existing audio recordings isn’t possible.
This unfortunately is true. John Cura (the man who we can thank for the telesnaps) had sadly past away shortly before "The Space Pirates" was broadcast. That's also the reason why "The Inasion" has no telesnaps

The Troughton era is my favourite, but this is possibly its low point, not least because of the character of Milo Clancy and his bizarre accent. Having said that, this was another excellent video, and I loved seeing Wendy Padbury again!
Frazer Hines probably has Power of the Daleks and wont hand it over until they agree to add him into it with CG, given it's the only one hes not in, lol

It's a real outlier in an otherwise pretty complete (which I'm grateful for!) final season, and the one episode we do have is pretty entertaining - especially Clancy and his "rubbishy new-fangled solar toaster".
Is it just me or did "Dreamspinner" and "The Prison in Space" look like very cool titles? One can wonder what those stories would be in the 60's. Dreamspinner could've been about a sort of creature or machine that would try to shift people between dream realms. The Prison in Space looks self explanatory, a bit like Space Pirates, but what if this became a real episode? Maybe Stormcage would've had a totally different name nowadays or maybe there would be a nod to it. Even the Doctor Who that never was looks cool, that's how great this show is.
The Prison in Space was made by Big Finish and there was also a scriptbook (now OOP). From the synopsis, it doesn't sound like Prison in Space will have aged very well.
Prison In Space is quite fun in and old style way and works as a good audio story for Big Finish, and Aliens In The Blood was made as a (non Dr Who) BBC Radio play at the time anyway so is easily obtainable. That one would have made a good Who story for sure...

I usually imagine those outdated episodes in design as dystopias where culture and fashion tend to go back to new tropes of old styles (which could happen, just saying... I mean, there's always a resurgence of styles in music, literature, etc.) or maybe the changes to time in the Whoniverse affected generations in almost unpredictable ways.

Also it was transmitted from film so he was just videoing a film print. If he'd done another episode, we'd have some genuine pure-video 60s Doctor Who to compare VidFire against. Actually they VidFIREd the tramission print for Lost In Time even though only a few BBC engineers ever saw it in pure video form.
Remembering the 80s when the call went out for the missing episodes talked to abc archive in Hobart and they had two stories thought was mythmakers and another story ended up being mind robber and krotons. Which I believe existed at this time ,ah the old days

@@JoshSnares Oh, I always knew that. But there was always that SMALL part of one's mind going "You know, it's not 100% impossible". It was fun to wallow in the what if for a time. similar to that time after you buy a lottery ticket, but before you lose and throw it out. :)

I'm very sorry with regard to Ms. Padbury, but the Space Pirates should be the last ever to be bothered with. Judging by the audio part 2 is easily the least interesting episode of this story, the titular villains don't even appear which is a shame as Caven is well acted and very nasty. I really like Milo Clancy as a character, the story is quite effective and the model work appears to be some of the best in the series up to this point. It's certainly flawed and the regulars are sidelined for long periods It would be interesting to see more of it although it would be nowhere near my top choice for a story to be returned.
in an alternate universe Space Pirates exists and they did NOT do a "burning" of Silver Doctor Who. next up they are going to (not learning from BBC history) burn all the classics and force us to watch NU garbage. Wendy Padbury is a good actress but why is she in Tom Baker's "Behind the sofa" she looks so out of place there.

I loved watching The Space Pirates serial when I was ten, getting close to 50 years ago. Troughton was great - I loved all his stories.

It was for a photo shoot during the tenth anniversary, it was a strange choice. Wendy was only joking about Frazer having missing episodes :)
