Sheriff Mike Henley and I were Troopers together,he is a one of a kind person the people of Avery county are blessed to have him. My heart goes out to all of you.
Is that the same Lord many of Tennessee's politicians blamed other storms that hit America, saying it was God's wrath on evil? I have to tell you, I'm struggling with empathy for many of these people since I am from East Tennessee and know what's in their hearts. It's not the Lord's love of all men....Had this storm decimated New York or California, many of them would be celebrating.
People like Alisha and Mike are exactly the type of people who you’d want to have by your side after such tragedy… they pull the community back together and spread love and compassion in the midst of such pain… you guys are so important, and I can tell you all really love your community and everyone in it, and that you truly care. If you can't get them, write me back. I'm only an hour from Newland and could drive over there and try to check on your relative. I have phone service and call you to tell you what I find.
Urm...Cannon Memorial Hospital is in Linville, NC...I have cousins in Linville. I live in Banner Elk. These towns are very close to one another, less than 5 minutes in some cases, so it is easy to get things mixed up. It's too bad they couldn't talk about the three confirmed dead...that is a real tragedy...on the other hand, the loved ones of the dead don't need the reminder. The Sheriff is right, we have a lot to be proud of and we WILL get through it.
@@annagoodwin8651 Makes ya wonder what the hospital has been dumping in that pit beside it. Huge "lake/pond" that looks like boxes and everything dumped in it.
Good news is no shortage of volunteer search/rescue citizens to help. Several even have private helis. That should help load bearing burden on you guys and FEMA. Resources are tight these days. Americans helping Americans in crisis are what makes America great.
Unfortunately, the FAA has asked at least one group of private pilots to throttle their airdrops, Carolina Aviators Network. They've dropped 10s of 1000s of pounds of supplies out of the Statesville airport but posted today on their Facebook page, Hurricane Helene Airlift Relief, that they're having to change some of it to ground assets because the FAA says airborne sightseers are clogging the airspace 🤦 Why in the world a nonprofit dropping lifesaving supplies can't get special clearance is absolutely beyond me. Throttle the frickin sightseers, not the nonprofits!!
Totally agree… I see people like Sheriff Mike and Ms. Alisha helping the community out of love, and I can’t help but think, THIS is what makes America so great. We have to take care of one another. ❤
We the people need to step up & get this current administration out of office! FEMA needs to be dissolved immediately. They are not coming to help these poor people. I am outraged at the current government response to this terrible tragedy
FEMA is in my area of western NC doing a great job. Please realize there are people on social media who want to spread lies at this time to make things worse.
Reporter seems to be insensitive to the loss of precious loved ones and their lives.😥 Using the word "killed"😠 like she's talking about the daily weather or stock market prices in my opinion. The sheriff showed more compassion, empathy, and emotion!💞
Um, the National Guard was here by Friday, with high water vehicles, and equipment. More than 1,000 troops, including Marines, were deployed from Ft. Liberty 2 days ago. Where do you think those orders come from? 🇺🇲
@joannethomas3609, Don't feed misinformation. The federal government has coordinated, and continues to coordinate, massive relief efforts, and reallocate funds for you because your lives are important. Multiple conservative legislators from states in the path of Helene (Florida, Georgia, South and North Carolina, and Tennessee) all voted NO on numerous forms of disaster relief, including FEMA. The result is that resources and infrastructure have to be scrambled and funds pulled out of other budgets after major disasters. Don't hedge your bets and assume it won't happen to you. Contact your elected representatives and tell them they must always prioritize your safety and security with robust disaster relief bills.
@@Naturalworldlivesthe paltry, disgusting offer of $750 does come from the Feds. Not to mention the EXTREMELY slow response. We love our National Guards; this is about the Biden admin. Army not releasing people to go help their families...sickening.

They are expecting people to die from their lack of response.
