I really love watching you. You totally get what she’s doing. I believe she was singing about heaven and little Did she know just a few short months later she would be there.

Her name was Eva not Ava. I have never heard Eva sing this that I don’t cry, sometimes in buckets!! I love her cover of this song. It is so soulful, so heart felt! I always play this when I am putting one of my fur babies to sleep. 😢 I know they will be waiting for me at the edge of the Rainbow Bridge when I make my way home to rest in Paradise to rest. Eva is healthy and while, singing with the other angels in heaven. ❤😢❤

The way she could weave the acoustic finger-picking in with her clear beautiful voice is magic.

Brandon, just a few, What a wonderful world, Fields of Gold, Songbird, Danny Boy, Chain of Fools, Bridge over troubled water, just to mention a few! Anything that Eva sang was a blessing from God❤️❤️❤️

The amount of emotion she conveys through her singing is remarkable, in particular because there are no theatrics, nor do you ever feel like she's putting on a performance at any point. Another equally and unique cover of this song, that unfortunately also has a rather tragic backstory is Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's version, which I highly recommend checking out.

Great reaction thanks 🙏 Eva Cassidy a folk blues jazz vocalist and a amazing guitarist from Maryland USA 🇺🇸 sadly passed away aged 33 years old from skin cancer, apparently a very shy person, Eva became more well known when she covered a Song Written by Sting (Fields Of Gold ) after Eva passed her family released her music and Eva became famous worldwide, check out a mashup between Eva Cassidy and Angelina Jordan with the song ( Fields Of Gold ) absolutely amazing they both sound so similar!

That's not really how she became famous. She died in obscurity, and would have remained that way if it weren't for an enormous piece of good fortune. Terry Wogan had a hugely popular BBC Radio2 Breakfast show. It was the most-listened to radio show in Europe, with a quarter of the UK adult population tuning in every day. His producer, Paul Walters, received a promo single from a friend who asked him to listen to it. He hated the song, but on the B side there was Over the Rainbow by someone called Eva Cassidy. On a whim he gave it a play and was blown away. He played it to Terry who was equally blown away. The following morning millions of Brits were listening to it on the radio and the response was unprecedented. In no time her Songbird album was released in the UK and shot to No.1 in the charts, as did other albums. Word gradually began to spread to the US and around the world, and she became internationally famous. All because Paul Walters decided to listen to that b-side.

I never get tired of listening to Eva's vocal gift. Remember, this is a live recording at Washington, D.C.'s Blues Alley nightclub. Oh, and Eva had a cold that night. A proud daughter of our DC Metro area here, Eva lives and lives and lives. #RIP Songbird.✝✝✝

Eva Cassidy died before she could get the recognition she deserved.
Several years after her death. Her version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow was found and got played on main stream music stations. It was number one on the UK charts for several weeks.

She was a remarkable performer and sadly left us too early. Her emotive performance is considered one of the best. And she was a very good guitarist as well, which you can hear in how the vocals and guitar played off each other here. This performance was at blues alley nightclub, and the entire concert was phenomenal. Her version (also from blues alley) of “Fields of Gold” is completely worth listening to! Simply a stunning performance.

She died of skin cancer ten months after this performance was filmed. She was unknown at the time. Her version of this song was never heard by the public until 2 years after her death when it was played on BBC radio. This camcorder video wasn't discovered until 4 years after her death in 2000. It aired on Britain's "Top of the Pops 2" TV show. It became the most requested video ever in the show's history. She never got to see how famous she would become.

She died 9 months after this recording. She had a cold and considered this not one of her best. The guitar work is complicated but she made it look easy. Considered on of the best voices for her time

Gone a few short months after record this. I wonder if she new she had terminal cancer when she made this. They combination of her voice and death brings this 6'5" 275 lb guy to tears every time.

At the time this live concert in Washington DC was filmed, the doctors had already informed Eva that she has terminal melanoma with maybe a year to live. Now list to that last line in this song know Eva knew she had but maybe a year to live. She would not have time to do the "why oh why can't I."

Hey Brandon, I hope all is doing well with you. I'm really glad you enjoyed Eva Cassidy. There are many more incredible covers by her, one with Angelina Jordan and she singing in a virtual duet. I will request it in another stream. She was a very special talent and died way too young. This recording was about 9 months before she passed.

I was looking for performances of "Over The Rainbow" when I ran into the Eva Cassidy web page. The live performance of this classic Standard had me dive "down the rabbit hole" to an indie comics. video/CD store. "Live From Blues Alley" (1996) was a profound musical discovery, and I began to buy Blix Street recordings as they became available. "Cover Girl" Eva Cassidy ended with "Somewhere" (2008), which features an original song.
Blue Note's A&R division couldn't figure out where to put her on the lineup since she had said, "I don't do that Pop crap." Coupled with the Jazz band, Method Actor, they tried to make music in 1988: th-cam.com/video/F3PQ-e9ZO1M/w-d-xo.html Lesson learned, when Norah Jones showed up, she and Blue Note prospered. (Or so I've concluded.)

'E'va (as in the letter E), not 'A'va. Great reaction tho, you cannot go wrong with any of her songs. I am not religious but istill like to listen to her more religious songs as they are just beautiful.

She's already terminally ill at this stage in her life and she knew she's living on a borrowed time which makes this performance even more sad and bittersweet

Eva not Ava. I know it is confusing for some.
