I'd love to see you try the other batter and compare the two recipes to see which one you like better, what the difference is, which is easier to work with, etc.

I made a video showing how to make butter “exactly like Pawpaw did”. I mentioned it could be done several ways, but I was making it the same way. I got an insane amount of comments telling me I could do it differently. I was like y’all all failed on listening. 😂 I love that you’re using old recipes to see how they did it! So fun!!!

Hello Stephanie, I have made fritters like that for years over 50, using a 150 year old hand me down family recipe. The only difference is that in 1950 my grandmother was in a hurry and diced the apples instead of slicing apples. She had 14 children, so time was important. In about 1965, while helping her, I accidently spilled cinnamon onto the diced apples. After that, we started tossing apple chunks in about 1 teaspoon cinnamon before adding to batter. After frying, some were glazed, some dusted with powdered sugar, some with white sugar, some with brown sugar. (Hard to please 14 children as far as sweetness, texture, etc.) my favorite where dusted with light brown sugar. Many variations have been tried over the years. I prefer light frying over a darker fried. They freeze well and are great with coffee tea, hot chocolate.

Thank you Stephanie for sharing this recipe. I've always wanted to actually try to make it myself but I'm not sure exactly why I haven't because I have Cook book's and I really appreciate you doing theses older recipes. I grew up in a family of cook's from my grandma's house and my momma and now I live by myself so sometimes I just don't feel like cooking for just me. But when I do I'm so used to cooking for a lot of people and I'm always calling family members and asking them if they would be interested in what's on the menu for today. My family members love my cooking and that makes me happy and feel good to know and see them enjoying my food's that I have prepared that day. God Bless y'all and have a great weekend Deman Homestead 🙏💐...

You had me at apple fritter. My go to is also an apple fritter. I may have to give those a try with the cinnamon. I have to agree with Buddy on the over sweetness part. I have had them where you need something savory after you eat it to beat back the sweetness so I try to have a piece of bacon or sausage handy to fix that...lol. But those look very good....now I want a fritter.....

When my grandmother passed away in 1990 I got some of her old cookbooks to from my cousin . I was born in the south , she was born in Georgia, and they lived in Florida when my grandparents got married, and I was born in Florida , now live in California. But I love those old cookbooks because they have all the etiquette like you were talking about and how to act for a young lady in that time. So funny I know exactly what you’re talking about Stephanie . those fritters, look really good.!! I’m now 64 years old. My grandma passed away when I was 32.

We used to have a donut shop locally that we would go hang out in. They had a small cafe there as well. We talked to the owner a lot. He told us that apple fritters are usually made using the bits and pieces of dough from all the other donuts that they make for the store. So the cuttings from making glazed, cake, old-fashioned, long John's, etc, are thrown into a mixer and then apples are added and then the dough is fried to make the fritters. The glaze is what makes it so sweet.

Well I can tell ya that they do use sugar in the dough Steph. I use to many years ago be a scratch baker and know they put sugar in, and the apples where cubed. But they always say that home made is better then store or shop bought. You put time and love into making food so it taste a lot better and different for sure. Enjoyed watching and I am sure with all the fruit trees ya have planted that you will be making fritters with other fruit for sure. Luv ya guys ❤️ 💙 💜

Speaking my language Steph! I would choose an Apple fritter any day over a donut! I think I would like the last one with the extra spices and the glazed topping. That is most closely to what we have today. Thanks again for sharing. We have a church around here who has perfected them and sales 1,000 and 1,000 each year at different functions and events. They use the chopped apples in and spices in the batter but they roll them into a little bigger than a golf ball and they deep fry them because they have so many to do at a time and they dust them with powder sugar! So that could be something you might want to try! They are wonderful as well!! Sending Blessings to The Denman Homestead!❤️

I think you will find that the batter is more like a ‘DROP SCONE’ ( BISCUIT to you;-)
I have made lots of both DROPSCONES and FRITTERS (fritters have a slightly thinner batter which you can have as thin or thick as you choose but, that was definitely a drop scone batter)
Google a modern fritter batter and test that also . . . “DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS”🤗
Absolutely adore your posts and you are one very talented Lass🙏🏻🥰
