    I love all you videos so much. The gratitude journal is going to change my nanny life so much! Wish I thought about it earlier, makes me realize how much negativity we focus on rather than being mindful and seeing that the little great things that have also happened. It's very thoughtful and encouraging too. Somethings we don't always here what a great job we're doing so we have to remind ourselves. Thank for making this video, I could tell it was hard! I greatly appreciate you tackling such a hard subject for nannies.:)

    I enjoyed this video. Both nannies and parents should try to respect each other and view each other as a team. Of course the nanny has to be paid fairly and be treated well.

    I've worked with many families and they are all the same. All start out considerate and kind. With in 2 years they have all underpaid, over worked and never respect my time. I have felt like a servant on idk how many occasions. Get what you know you are worth. I have been with 10 kids and every single family will not be fair unless you speak up for yourself. I love the kids and stay for them. But nannies rarely are entitled. They come from regular homes. The rich families coming from generational wealth are the entitled ones. This was gross. I can see what you're prospective clear from. Clear as day.

    Great video. Mom here, from west van, perceived as a wealthy person. It amazes me how people expect to be given extra since they perceive you have lots. That is not a mentality that will be helpful in the long run, for sure :) also it doesn’t help a person to overpay them - since they will expect an amount not proportional to their experience or type of work in future jobs. Also the Vancouver caregiver Facebook page makes me crazy lol. PS we do pay really well. We give lots of extras but not if it is expected in an entitled way.

    The parents down time is so true! The kids sometimes will notice their dad isn’t working and is in the finished basement playing video games or taking a nap in between meetings as he works from home. Then they get irritated and wonder why dad won’t play with them and I’m here if he isn’t working, but I remind them that dad deserves some down time and doesn’t even have the time to decompress on a ride home from work since he works from home.

    • @phoeberose9089
      @phoeberose9089 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And yes about helping out with little things! They never ask or make me, but if I’m bored during the day I’ll clean up the play room, I’ll help with dishes, I’ll start a load of laundry. And they don’t expect those things from me and appreciate them!

    I think a lot of nannies here are bumped about changing prices because many believe their value lies on the employee, when in reality the value relies on the capabilities and the nanny herself. I charge $30/hour BMW or Nissan. My value doesn't change, it will be more next year tho.

    • @TheNannySolution

      It's important to recognize your own value and not base it solely on external factors like the employer. Keep up the great work!

    How many nannies have the essential health care benefits as most legit jobs? How many nannies have to fight for their two weeks of paid vacation? How many nannies have 401k? If you work for a millionaire and the wife does nothing but shop all day, they can afford to pay you enough for the many years they expect you to stay. I stayed 5.5 years with a family that paid me well but had no job security, benefits, health care, or raises for 5.5 years. I only called in sick twice in those five and half years. I worked Christmas and New Year's Eve. I asked off for Labor Day once, and the answer was no. Guess what? One of my two sick days in 5.5 years was Labor Day.😉
    Entitled? No, I don't think so. We need to move forward out of the 18th century. We should not still be treated as "the help".
    If you're there working 45-plus hours per week, you're not the help! You are the glue that keeps the family together and the spirit that carries on through their children. This profession needs to be elevated, and workers need to be protected.
    Yes, we should all practice gratitude, and I do, but toxic positivity in the name of keeping workers happy with less pay and benefits; only contributes to the increasing division of the classes. These videos are very helpful but keep in mind that they are created by someone who makes money finding nannies for wealthy people. If you refuse to work for less than you deserve, somebody else will, the agencies know this, unless workers stand together and demand the same benefits and higher pay. Nannies need to go on strike like teachers, construction workers, etc.

      I’m sorry you feel this way and are being treated so badly in your jobs. Working with a professional nanny agency will help you get good pay and medical benefits. We get paid just like you get paid for the work that we do. Our agency has spent the last 22 years fighting for higher wages for Nannies. When we started Nannies we’re mostly making minimum wage in Canada. Now they may $25-35+ per hour. We work hard for Nannies and would not still be in business if we didn’t.

    I’ve been thinking about this all day since I watched your video in the morning and I really needed to hear the message about gratitude. I think when you focus on what you’re GRATEFUL for in the job it’s easier to see that the pros outweigh the cons with your current family or that you can take your love for the job to a family that you love even more! When I was focusing too much on what I wasn’t getting out of the job I wasn’t think enough about all the wonderful things that nannying offers! If you truly need out of a situation a positive attitude will help you attract better offers. I know it’s not easy when you’re tired and it seems like your family doesn’t value what you do for them OR your personal time but I promise you can get through this. Change that mindset and then you will have the energy to invest in something better! I’ve been there and you will get through it ❤

    also, I was being paid to hang with a cute baby and the mom watched hoarders, I didn’t really care what they were doing but I was glad to be paid and was like go ahead and watch whatever, if you keep me here and I still get my hours, I’m here shoot

    I really needed this video as I am butting heads with my employer on a few things. I am not required to sanitize and disinfect things. I am choosing to do that for a couple of reasons. I wrote on our shared communication white board to always make sure we have disinfecting wipes, disinfecting spray, and paper towels. I personally don't see it as an issue but I've never been in a family where money has been an issue.

  • @Heather-sl5tj

    Ok I never leave comments but I really felt compelled to leave one here.
    I think it’s sad you see it as “entitlement” rather than pushing the field forward. I think it’s amazing woman are asking for more money! Nannies have been underpaid and undervalued for far tooo long. Entitlement is happening because there is a shortage of nannies cause no one wants to be one! So lets bump up the pay and raise the bar! If you are trying to be a leader in the childcare field I think you should actually think about what’s in the best interest of the people working for you. I can’t image how your employees must feel watching this

    • @TheNannySolution
      @TheNannySolution  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I appreciate you taking the time to write. I totally agree that nannies have been underpaid and undervalued for a long time. This is not just about nannies pushing back for more pay. The examples I gave in this video are not just about higher pay. They are about professional behavior no matter what field you work in.

  • @samanthamaxwell7008
    @samanthamaxwell7008 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I somewhat disagree with the first point. But I am seeing a lot of low ball offers. So when you pull up to a wealthy persons home and they are paying crumbs, I would expect more.

    • @TheNannySolution
      @TheNannySolution  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That is a different point. If they are not paying enough for the job and your experience then it isn't even worth you going to the interview. I am talking about families who are paying a fair wage, nannies agree to the wage and then when they see the home they ask for more money.

      Specially the part where you have to work the hours you are being paid? Of course, you should be allowed to go home at 4 pm; and still being paid like if you were working until 5pm. Very logical …
