When you keep a Good Horse in Training and let them Mature you can sometimes get a Gun Runner who turns into an absolute Monster...Drew away from all rivals in the Stretch during his Win streak to close out his Career...Looked like this Field could have ran around the Track again and Still not Catch this Horse...Closer he got to the Wire the stronger he got...Similar to Mitole
Still think GR is a severely underrated horse. Everyone fawns over Arrogate, especially after Dubai. But including Dubai, GR was superb as an older horse. The proof is the Dubai race. He was incredible that night only bested by a freakish trip from Arrogate. Also I will take FG any day if I needed to choose a jockey.

A great race from Gun Runner, who answered every question about his stamina, winning from the front while being pushed by Collected throughout. This should definitely put an end to the "Arrogate is the greatest ever" argument. Arrogate is an excellent horse, he's had some spectacular wins, and he will surely be in the Hall of Fame one day. But he is not "the Man o' War of the 21st century", he is not "the greatest horse since Secretariat", and he is not even the best horse of this decade. There is only one king of racehorses for the 2010s so far, and his name is American Pharoah. You can debate Gun Runner, Arrogate, and California Chrome for second place (though, Gun Runner will be back next year, and could certainly still make a case for first).

Arrogate in the Hall of Fame? Maybe if he continued that amazing run of performances (Travers, BCC, Pegasus and Dubai) but everything before that was cheap and his 3 races after that were average to duds. Don't get me wrong. It was fun to watch him and get caught up in those 4 electric performances but that doesn't define HOF credentials to me.
Ok, maybe that part is more debatable than I thought. I was mainly just trying to still recognize his achievements while making the point that he's not as good as his supporters' hype made him out to be. Fair enough.
It was a 2 horse race right from the start. Honest pace too. Gun Runner came into town to take on the hot, horse for the course Collected and prevailed. Beat the non-speed favoring biased track on a day full of upsets too going wire to wire as the co-favorite. I liked his gameness and saw his maturity in last years BC Dirt Mile against older horses. Trainer and jockey have been perfect with him too.
Joseph Federico It was weird being how the track played and not biased that Collected pushed Gun Runner with hot fractions and not one horse closed or made up any ground. WEST COAST was sitting 4th and could only be 3rd and huge longshot WAR STORY was 5th and took 4th. Only GUN RUNNER/COLLECTED brought their A game, rest of the field was spread out.
First. I eat crow. Fantastic Chamionship performance by GUN RUNNER hounded by COLLECTED every step of the wsy on a track that didn't favor speed the two days of the BC. He put him away and drew off. Arthur Levin "DIRTY" DOUG O'NEILL. If u remember a few years ago the big scandal with Asmussen & his horses. He was damaged goods at the time. Virtually every owner abandoned him except the owner of GUN RUNNER who stuck with him. U are well within your right to use the drug card. RICHARD DUTROW JR. banned for ten years. That is another that was caught. He is a big reason that steroids are tested when it was revealed BIG BROWN ran with them in the 2008 Kentucky Derby. Churchill Downs officials were red faced at the time. It has gone alot. These were the famous trainers that were caught.

But as tired as he was, he fought on & made Keen Ice really work 4 that win. Was just like Man o' War loosing 2 upset, not his fault, & Secretariat loosing 2 Onion....

Either arrogate has some sort of ailment that they haven't figured out yet or he just wants to retire, regardless he ran the fastest travers EVER and was dominate for a time there. You don't run the fastest Travers ever on luck. This goes to show some horses are delicate with that invisible line when pushed over they change. Regardless he does have the ability to dominate just doesn't want to do it... Gun Runner has been solid his whole career and prove he wants to race right now.. Both horses are very special and owners try there whole live to come across one.. My buddy owned a nice chunk of Unified who is also a son of Candy Ride but clearly GR is Candy Rides best offspring.. Who was the better race horse??? I would have to say Gun Runner.. Who will produce the better offsprings will decide who is the all around better horse ... Great run by Collected..congrats to Gun Runner and Del Mar on a solid 2days ..

Anna ~ Fair point - def always seems 2 b exceptions 2 the rules.... 2 b fair thou, her only truly poor races were Raven Run & Kentucky Oaks.... The races she didn't win, she did mostly get 2nd place or 3rd.... So not 2 shabby of a race career.

1:59:36, 2:00:11; 2:00.70 for all 1 1/4 races for arrogate in the deeper quick sand type tracks of Delmar & Saratoga. 🙏. Regardless, AP has my heart because first triple 👑 & saw him in elmont but wish I could've seen arrogate in person also.
I honestly question the results of anything Baffert (and O'Neill) trains. Google Bob Baffert quarter horse violations to see the amount of deaths and injuries that have occurred on his watch. To me it's just not possible to have a high quality Derby horse and or champion year after year after year. If you look at the greatest of horses, their trainers did not have HOY finalists year after year after year. We're talking about Hall Of Fame quality trainers like Lucien Laurin, Laz Barrera, Charlie Whittingham, Shug McGaughey. To me something "funny" was going on. Poor Arrogate was past the point of being able to take advantage of whatever he was getting. Fortunately he didn't break down or get hurt. I wonder if AP would have hit a brick wall at some point as well.
Richard K ~ I honsestly don't believe AP would have hit a brick wall, he was something truly special & unique, a totally different horse & pedigree/bloodline then Arrogate, watch his training video when b4 Baffert took him!!!! U'll see his exceptional talent & speed & his incredible & tremendous stride!!!! Other trainers were scared of him.... He was a measure & cut above all the others of the last few decades.
Personally I think that my favorite racehorse of all time will always be Man O' War. He carried 130 pounds 7 times as a two year old and he beat Upset in 7 other races. I can go on about him all day long. But as far as the horses of the modern era, I think Tiznow is a favorite of mine because he is a direct link to Man O' War. But it is also worth noting that he is still the only horse who has ever won the Breeders Cup Classic twice. I was expecting Arrogate to join Tiznow but he didn't look the least bit interested in this race. It's hard to watch people put Arrogate in the same sentence with Zenyata or California Chrome. A four race winning streak is nothing. I believe that Zenyata would have run Arrogate down if she was her 2009 self, and possibly her 2010 incarnation too. And I think that if Arrogate were to run against Tiznow he would have lost too. Giant's Causeway and Sakhee were very special European champions and he beat each of them under a hand ride.
The one thing I really hate about how Arrogate's career ended was not getting to find out if his losing his final 3 starts was a product of his just not liking the main track at Del Mar? Or if it was that he had just become disinterested in racing anymore, because that does happen also. As it was left, I think a legit argument could be made for both points. It's just a shame that Baffert didn't have the time to maybe take him away from Del Mar after the second loss, maybe back to Santa Anita to see how her performed back on their main track again prior to his running in the 17' BC Classic. I realize Baffert didn't really have the time to do that. I'm just saying I think it might've helped answer some of the questions left surrounding Arrogate at the end of his career if he'd gotten to run somewhere else besides Del Mar even once before he was retired, IMO.
He came back from Dubai and it was obvious something was wrong., You could see the way he ran after that...his neck was leaning to the side. Of course, now we know he died of a neurological condition.
I'm absolute convinced that His father Candy Ride was a better horse on the track and would've beaten Gun Runner , he was the real Monster , and was retired undefeated due to an innury

LASIK for gun runner..hes not the best .no doubt arrogate was tailing off as if he needed a long break..on arrogate best day and gun best day which they did run and arrogate smokes him...gun run beat collected and a fading arrogate so gun run is not the best..real horse players know that..i betted on collected although i love arrogate i knew he was fading fast and just needed proper rest time..gun run resume stunk until this race, it looks nice but by default

You "betted" on collected. Let me tell you something. Arrogate is the faster of the two but Gun Runner is clearly the better and more consistent horse. Horses betters used more Gun Runner in there bets the Arrogate simply on consistency.. Yes you have to use both horses in his race but Gun Runner is CLEARLY the better race horse... There offspring will decide who is the best of the two down the line...
Stephanie Ball ARROGATE didn't like the Del Mar Track. That is clear as day. GUN RUNNER was a different horse as a 4yp than 3. All i am seeing on here are sore losers, sour grapes & conspiracy theories. Lol. Wow.

I honestly question the results of anything Baffert (and O'Neill) trains. Google Bob Baffert quarter horse violations to see the amount of deaths and injuries that have occurred on his watch. To me it's just not possible to have a high quality Derby horse and or champion year after year after year. If you look at the greatest of horses, their trainers did not have HOY finalists year after year after year. We're talking about Hall Of Fame quality trainers like Lucien Laurin, Laz Barrera, Charlie Whittingham, Shug McGaughey. To me something "funny" was going on. Poor Arrogate was past the point of being able to take advantage of whatever he was getting. Fortunately he didn't break down or get hurt. I wonder if AP would have hit a brick wall at some point as well.
Richard K ~ I honsestly don't believe AP would have hit a brick wall, he was something truly special & unique, a totally different horse & pedigree/bloodline then Arrogate, watch his training video when b4 Baffert took him!!!! U'll see his exceptional talent & speed & his incredible & tremendous stride!!!! Other trainers were scared of him.... He was a measure & cut above all the others of the last few decades.
Personally I think that my favorite racehorse of all time will always be Man O' War. He carried 130 pounds 7 times as a two year old and he beat Upset in 7 other races. I can go on about him all day long.
But as far as the horses of the modern era, I think Tiznow is a favorite of mine because he is a direct link to Man O' War. But it is also worth noting that he is still the only horse who has ever won the Breeders Cup Classic twice.
I was expecting Arrogate to join Tiznow but he didn't look the least bit interested in this race. It's hard to watch people put Arrogate in the same sentence with Zenyata or California Chrome.
A four race winning streak is nothing. I believe that Zenyata would have run Arrogate down if she was her 2009 self, and possibly her 2010 incarnation too.
And I think that if Arrogate were to run against Tiznow he would have lost too. Giant's Causeway and Sakhee were very special European champions and he beat each of them under a hand ride.
Cigar was the best, he won 16 straight
As for Arrogate he was phenomenal for 4 races but wore down afterwards

Easy Win...No Horse in the field was making up any ground on gun runner to the wire...Probably would have won if they had to run another 1/2 Mile
GR was a pretty good colt, but weak field in the classic.
Arrogate left everything in Dubai where he destroyed Gun Runner
and Gun Runner destroyed Arrogate in the BC Classic
Trevor Denman is a better race caller.
The one thing I really hate about how Arrogate's career ended was not getting to find out if his losing his final 3 starts was a product of his just not liking the main track at Del Mar? Or if it was that he had just become disinterested in racing anymore, because that does happen also. As it was left, I think a legit argument could be made for both points. It's just a shame that Baffert didn't have the time to maybe take him away from Del Mar after the second loss, maybe back to Santa Anita to see how her performed back on their main track again prior to his running in the 17' BC Classic. I realize Baffert didn't really have the time to do that. I'm just saying I think it might've helped answer some of the questions left surrounding Arrogate at the end of his career if he'd gotten to run somewhere else besides Del Mar even once before he was retired, IMO.
He came back from Dubai and it was obvious something was wrong., You could see the way he ran after that...his neck was leaning to the side. Of course, now we know he died of a neurological condition.

I'm absolute convinced that His father Candy Ride was a better horse on the track and would've beaten Gun Runner , he was the real Monster , and was retired undefeated due to an innury

Funny Easygoer broke the same way Arrogate did in 1989 and was coming like a freight train down the stretch ......Pat Day had the best horse that day but wait all day Pat got him beat.
Thomas Carpenter ~ I actually believe Sunday Slience was the better & best horse that day, just like in their rivalry in the TC.... My pick was always Sunday Silence over Easy Goer, nothing that much against EG he was a really good horse 2 I just preferred Sunday Silence....

Thomas Carpenter ~ all I will say & only reply I will make.... I am allowed & can freely have my opinion on the better horse of the 2, just as u.... Sunday Silence had a super great impact on Japan's TB breeding as a stud stallion & his legacy continues thru his descendants!!!!!

Every horse that Aidan O'brien won in the Breeders Cup had first time lasix. That is a fact.

LASIK for gun runner..hes not the best .no doubt arrogate was tailing off as if he needed a long break..on arrogate best day and gun best day which they did run and arrogate smokes him...gun run beat collected and a fading arrogate so gun run is not the best..real horse players know that..i betted on collected although i love arrogate i knew he was fading fast and just needed proper rest time..gun run resume stunk until this race, it looks nice but by default
proper rest? this horse has been coddled like a fucking newborn since Dubai, these performances at DM have stunk, GR shows up every race win or lose, tip your cap to him

You "betted" on collected. Let me tell you something. Arrogate is the faster of the two but Gun Runner is clearly the better and more consistent horse. Horses betters used more Gun Runner in there bets the Arrogate simply on consistency.. Yes you have to use both horses in his race but Gun Runner is CLEARLY the better race horse... There offspring will decide who is the best of the two down the line...
Stephanie Ball ARROGATE didn't like the Del Mar Track. That is clear as day. GUN RUNNER was a different horse as a 4yp than 3. All i am seeing on here are sore losers, sour grapes & conspiracy theories. Lol. Wow.
Every horse in this race was on Lasix, why you holding it against only Gun Runner? He's won 4 straight G1s, just this year alone... sounds like someone is a sore loser. His resume is excellent and he just clinched 2 Eclipse Awards.
