    After all these years, I still get goose bumps when I watch Zenyatta!

    Tiznow v Giant's Causeway was the race of the decade.

  • @travisdalton6008

    Tiznow is number 1. Only horse to win twice. Plus in New York 6 weeks after 9/11 leading to the greatest race call ever. I loved Zenyatta and Cigar, but for a race fan "Tiznow wins it for America" may never be beat.

    Frankie Detroit said when he was riding Sakhee down the stretch he suddenly felt this dinosaur of a horse loom up alongside him, that was the legendary Tiznow coming.. he beat both Giant Causeway and Sakhee two truly great horses in monumental stretch runs.. An amazingly tough and talented horse. Heart pounding to this day to watch that duel with Sakhee.

      That was the closest Frankie Dettori would come to winning the BC Classic until 2008 where he rode ravens pass to victory

    I think, even though she lost, Zenyatta's second run at the Classic was my favorite, she made up so much ground to just barely lose and she was closing like a freight train, I was so impressed with her effort, just sad the race wasn't like a foot longer.

    • @Nicole-qc5dh
      @Nicole-qc5dh 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I was there at Churchill, and she was unbelievable! I wanted to cry when she came up short. She had a really rough start, didn't like the dirt in her face, and had a difficult time finding her stride. At one point she had to have been at least 18 lengths back. To come back from that in the biggest World Championship race, and only miss the win by a nose? Absolutely remarkable. It's the best race she ever ran, despite the fact she lost. I agree with you, she deserves a bit more respect.

    • @109367

      @WonderDrugEchinacea Not saying this race was the best Breeders' Cup race, just my favorite race of hers. I really do love Calidoscopio but my favorite horse ever to watch was Ghostzapper who ran the fastest BC Classic to date.

    • @Nicole-qc5dh
      @Nicole-qc5dh 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      While I completely agree Calidescope's win was very impressive, you need to look at these two races again. He was never. 30 lengths back. The announcer said 10 lengths off the lead at his furthest point back. I think it was probably closer to 14. Remarkable win either way, he passed the rest and won pulling away. Brilliant horse!

    • @Nicole-qc5dh
      @Nicole-qc5dh 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @WonderDrugEchinacea I didn't delete anything, TH-cam glitch? You're absolutely entitled to your opinion, I just don't think you can compare a two mile race to a mile and a quarter race, that's all. Thanks for the conversation! You had me looking back on a great horse and I'm always happy to do that!

      Zenyatta proved herself in defeat. She never really traveled before and you could see her not liking the footing most of the race. To come through that the way she did was amazing. Not every horse loses something in defeat (also look at Songbird vs Beholder in 2016 Breeders Cup Distaff)

    Sunday Silence winning in 1989 to take 3 outta 4 against Easy Goer is the greatest Breeders Cup race. Not just because of the horses involved, but because of the race itself, which was sheer awesome and had one of the best race calls of all time.

    • @jeffsnell2795
      @jeffsnell2795 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Easy Goer had everything against him coming into that race and during the race as SS had everything in his favor...GREAT race but the Better Horse Lost by a Neck in my opinion...Easy Goer was Sluggish throughout and did not do any running at all until Mid stretch on a speed favoring track...Closing to lose by a Neck at the wire is unforgivable by the Jock....He also broke slow out of the gate with the horse...Nothing went right for Easy Goer...Connections also should have Skipped the 12 Furlong Jock Club before the Classic and let Easy Goer rest up more off that Grueling campaign...They discussed scratching him from the Classic cause he was Training Poorly....Whittingham did a Tremendous Training Job with SS

  • @ustulo3488

    Many of these horses and editions of the BC are legendary, but the only one I watched live on TV was Zenyatta coming up short by a head to Blame. You can literally hear people screaming like the world was coming to an end in the stands as Zenyatta was trying to close the gap with Blame down the stretch after being 18 lengths behind early in the race. I was huge fan of Zenyatta and always will be...and this is her greatest race she ever ran even after being unbeaten in the first 19 of her career.

    It was a sad day when the horseracing community found that Cigar was infertile and he would never breed..... just think about it tho, the Colts and fillies he could've brought into this world with his bloodline!

    • @CarolanIvey
      @CarolanIvey 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is sad, but AP Indy's breeding almost makes up for it. All that Bold Ruler/Nasrullah blood on both sides, Man o' War, and a bit of Native Dancer's bloodline brought in through Somethingroyal, who appears TWICE in Indy's pedigree - something you don't see very often.

  • @CarolanIvey
    @CarolanIvey 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Alphabet Soup upsetting Cigar that has to make the top 10

  • @lehcaraz1
    @lehcaraz1 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Zenyatta gets my bid for first and second. Her 2009 race was unbelievable but 2010 against an even more loaded field of males she made up 18 lengths behind from the backstretch and overcame being held up by Quality Road at the final turn and still was running Blame to the ground and would have passed him the next step past the wire and would have kept going! She beat every male she faced and just needed a better ride in 2010 to knock Blame out. I still feel sad as it was said Zenyatta seemed confused as she was led back to the paddock instead of the winners circle! She had never lost before in 20 races.

  • @litogor

    Arcangues in 1993! Despite the surprise for American punters the horse wins very easily. The jockey had not asked anything Arcangues before the last meters and when he decides to ask his horse he easily exceeds everyone!
    Arcangues would have won at least 10 lengths if Bayley had wanted to start earlier but he did not know his horse and only thought to follow and finish among the last. Then in the last corner, Bayley realized that his French horse unknown to the Americans was far superior to all the others ....
    This extraordinary acceleration of this very good European horse (beating Arazi the best 2 years in history when they were 2 years old) made all the public mute and this race will remain legendary because the American bettors learned that day never to underestimate a foreigner and better inquire about him .... 133-1 ??? 10-1 was the logical maximum ahahahahah

    My personal Classic favorites:
    1) Zenyatta 2009- for a filly/mare to win the Classic was monumental-considering her running style,- Trevor Denman's "This is Un-Be-Lievable!". Goosebumps.
    2) Blame/Zenyatta 2010- Mike Smith left her too much to do but she almost pulled it off! Heartbreak.
    3) Tiznow/Sahkee 2001- "Tiznow wins it for America" Tom Durkins call says it all. Back to Back Classics.
    4)Cigar 1995- The Incomparable, Invincible, Unbeatable Cigar. The horse that made me fall in love with horse racing.

    I have 2 greatest Breeders Cup moments: 1: 1996, before paramutuel payoffs, I got 19-1 on Alphabet Soup, my first ever $50 win/place bet. I was the only one cheering in that Laughlin Nevada casino. 2: Tiznow in 2000. Some kid was showing off to his girlfriend, and as they crossed the wire, he told her NOBODY hit that. My buddy screamed: '$100 Win and Place AND the Exacta!" I replied "Exacta AND Trifecta!!!" Kid tucked his tail between his legs and left. Bet he didn't get none that night!

    Both Tiznow wins belong on this list. The 1988 revival was no slouch either. The 1996 Classic at Woodbine, with it's four-horse finish, was as good as any of these with maybe the exception of Zenyatta's score, and easily better than the most overrated Classic ever - 1989. After SS passed Blushing John, McCarron eased up on him, which made the visual (and Tom's great call/beg) appear like the race was close.

    Hey postcardterry, I'm pretty sure your're the one that's biased, you were so eager to try and criticize this person that you must not have paid attention. It clearly says "Breeders Cup CLASSIC", those horses you named didn't race in the Classic, Golidkova just kept running in the same race every year instead of trying one of the bigger Breeders' Cup races like the Classic or even the Distaff [Ladies Classic] but hey if i was her and I saw Zenyatta's name listed in the race I would probably avoid her too. (And Goldikova fans couldn't use the different surface as an excuse, because the 2008 & 09 Breeders' Cup were held at a track with synthetic surface which feels very similar to grass and give turf horses an advantage and so the Europeans did really well on it coming from grass and won a few) American Biased? It's funny how Europeans act about the US (I'm merely guessing that's where you're from) when most Europeans think they are better and try to look down on Americans. We're not the ones stuck in the Middle Ages.

      As an American and all things being equal, Europeans may have a leg up on us. the turf races at the BC points that way. but we do bred for dirt, so it really is hard to compare.

    Zenyatta is still overrated , always beat the same horses and that classic was weak

    More American bias! Where is Goldikova and where is Arazi?t amazes me how little race fans like you know.Arazi should be number one on several grounds.He had the worst draw,which gave the yanks an advantage.He was the widest margin winner,he travelled from Europe,which gave the yanks an advantage.Most pertinent;he was tiny! at around 2 hands smaller than Bertrando,he gave that horse a 20 pound beating.Clever people bet on big horses because they're at a distinct advantage.Arazi defied physics !

      Hey bud I know this comment is three years old, but maybe you're still angry. Just reminding you that the title says Breeders Cup CLASSIC moments. But maybe you are right, maybe we do have a bias against non-Classic horses in a Classic compilation.
