      @@spooder6 Hey doofus he was talking about what he has heard. Maybe he didn't hear that one about Secratariet. Not everyone is past 50 ok ? I am ,but cut people some slack ,maybe suggest watching Big Red running in the Belmont. However the way Colmus called this race at the end is still better than at the end of Secratariets win in the Belmont. The announcer that day was Chic Anderson and his announcing was great but that was nearing the 1 mile of the Belmont when he said "he is moving like a tremendous machine" it wasn't at the end because there was no drama left because Secratariet had slaughtered the competition.

    On October 31, 2015 at Keeneland, 50,000 people witnessed greatness and many more watched at home. We were blessed to be able to see such a great horse. During the leadup to the race the commentary team said the great ones come back with a vengeance and they were spot on. Put this horse firmly in your memory and never forget what he did. We very well may never see anything like this ever again. There's only one American Pharoah. I'll never forget the call from Larry Collmus - "A Triple Crown winner! A Breeder's Cup winner! I was 22 when this happened. I'll never ever forget this horse and what he did. I've just about memorized all of his stretch runs. Still not sure which is my favorite. The Belmont Stakes was absolute ecstasy. I was so confident yet nervous at the same time. His Preakness showed me all I needed to see. I knew he was the one. "AND THEY'RE INTO THE STRETCH! AND AMERICAN PHAROAH MAKES HIS RUN FOR GLORY!"... "FROSTED IS ALL OUT AT THE SIXTEENTH POLE AND HERE IT IS! THE 37 YEAR WAIT IS OVER! AMERICAN PHAROAH IS FINALLY THE ONE! AMERICAN PHAROAH HAS WON THE TRIPLE CROWWWNNN!" Then came the Classic... "AMERICAN PHAROAH COMES INTO HIS FINAL FURLONG, AND HE'S GOT A 5, A 6 LENGTH LEAD, AS THEY COME TO THE WIRE, A TRIPLE CROWN WINNER, A BREEDER'S CUP WINNER, A HORSE OF A LIFETIIIMEEE!" After the race ended I just went into the bathroom, thanked God for letting us witness this magnificent athlete then I broke down into tears. Just like that, my all time favorite racehorse, the best horse I ever saw had left the race track forever, but he left me memories that'll last a lifetime. Stuff I'll be able to tell people about years from now hopefully. Thank you American Pharoah. You deserve all the praise ever bestowed upon you. Maybe one day I'll see another one like you, but I doubt it very much. Hopefully your sons and daughters will at least be half as talented as you. If so, they'll be pretty damn good in my opinion.

    In all of this we need to thank Mr. Zayat and Bob Baffert for bringing him to the BCC. Other owners might have sent him off to stud after the Travers. They took a risk and they should be acknowledged for their sportsmanship and promotion of the sport. If AP had lost, it would have been their worst nightmare and probably effected his stud fee. I am happy for them that they were rewarded with a win.

      Right, though I would probably argue that the Pennsylvania Derby would have been a better fit since Saratoga has taken down champions after the triple crown. This also included Secretariat. Also, you're not lying. They had to roll the dice and hope craps didn't come up. Fortunately for them they hit big time.

    Oh yes, sooo good to see this again --- what a fabulous horse! --- and not a shabby ride by VE either. Look forward to a VE repeat in 2016 albeit not the same mount. Since Pharoah retired, has been exciting keeping up with CC --- another tremendous equine whose "comeback"
    has been stupendous. Interesting noting the obvious physical maturity difference of CC at 6 and Pharoah at only 3 -- Excitedly anticipating 2 days of safe racing for all horses/jocks at Santa Anita with CC taking the BCC this time.

    I was born in the Mid 80s. Started watching horse racing around the time of War Emblem in 2002. I loved Smarty and Big Brown. I loved Barbaro. I thought California Chrome would be the one. I thought Big Brown would be the one. But it was Pharoah. He is the greatest horse in my lifetime. I don't know how he stacks up with other Triple Crown winners, but he is my second favorite horse of all time behind Secretariat. I would probably rate him 3rd or 4th behind Secretariat, Seattle Slew and maybe Citation (maybe) all time amongst triple crown winners. Man O War was the second best horse of all time in my opinion, but he never did win the TC. He didn't race in the Derby but he destroyed Sir Barton the year Sir won.
    My brother isnt as big into horse racing as I am and he didn't watch the TC races until after the fact. He watched the Breeders Cup when AP won. He said as well that it was the greatest performance he'd seen in a race.

    AP won on EIGHT different tracks, on dry surfaces and in the slop. The only thing he didn't try was the turf. He remains underrated, just like Seattle Slew was. Both were far superior to the competition, and therefore the (few) critics thought these two were inferior racehorses because they supposedly had "weak" competition. But nothing could be further from the truth.

    • @strangedays871
      @strangedays871 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Susan Nunes How is he underrated? If anything its the opposite. He had a very short career and this years crop was weak. Lets face it. Look at times at the Derby. It was awful. There will be another triple next year if the crop is this weak.

    • @Drop_off_on_the_right
      @Drop_off_on_the_right 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      +Strange Days Are you serious? Could not disagree more. All that was touted was how strong the fields were this year. The Derby is probably the most difficult to win. This stuff just does not happen by happenchance. By the way, it took over 37 years to pull off this feat and you want to decry weak crop, blah blah? Let's get real. This champion just set record in his last race against Grade 1 Competition and you want to try and detract from it. Why? How? There very well could be a Triple Crown next year, let's hope so, but it has nothing to do with what American Pharoah just did. For crying out loud we had what 3 or 4 Triple Crowns in the 70s and you want to talk about weak crops? What is the matter with you? Just enjoy the champion we have now. Geez.

    • @strangedays871
      @strangedays871 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Derreck Shaw What record did he set exactly? Maybe I missed that. The record for that race is 1:59 I believe. He ran a good time at the Belmont but most other years his time at the derby would have had him third or fourth. Many people have said that this years crop of three year olds are weak do to the times they have run and the fact that there were no pace setters. With this crop of horses several other horse of years past could have won the triple crown based on the times. I don't go by emotion, I go by numbers.

    • @GermanOperaSinger
      @GermanOperaSinger 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Susan Nunes Slew was overrated as a 3yo. His competition was indeed weak. But he proved his greatness as a 4yo. Too bad AmPh is retiring this year.

    • @Drop_off_on_the_right
      @Drop_off_on_the_right 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Strange Days The numbers that matter are 3, 12, 4, and 1. 3 for Triple Crown = There are only 12 that have every done it I the history dating back to 1919!! 4 = Grand Slam. This is the Cherry on Top, and 1 is for the first and only one to have completed this feat--albeit there was no Breeders Cup when Slew last crown before AP. 37 years to accomplish that Triple Crown is just that a crowning achievement. Also, AP faced something like the second or third most horses of any Triple Crown Winner. AP had the second fastest time at the Belmont and speculation is if he were pushed could have beat the Track record! The record he set on Breeders Cup I believe was a track record for the distance. It all adds up. This horse is very rare and special. He is right up there with Secretariat. History will be very kind to this horse. He did what Great Ones do, destroy the competition and mind you again in his last race he won the Breeders Cup Classic against older horses! He has nothing else to prove. He is one of the best that has ever done it. Oh before I forget since you like go by the numbers. AP notched a career high 120 Beyer Speed Figure in his final race while also setting a Keenlenad track record time of 2:00.07. Additionally, AP's 136 TimeformUS Speed Figure for the Classic ranked best in North America this year. He ranked 7th all time in earnings and did it in only 11 races! 8 of 9 victories were Grade I! There is no blowing smoke with this horse. He is the best of his generation and one of the best of all time. I rank him with Secretariat. So, there is no emotion...all the numbers you can handle...from earnings to Beyer to TimeForm to record winning time...so stop hating and just enjoy that you witnessed one of the best to ever done it.

    Any horse who wins the Triple Crown is a superhorse; that's why it was 37 years between Affirmed (78) and AP (2015). In the 70s, when we had 3 Triple Crown winners, there was no Breeder's Cup. AP got to do something new, to set the standard even higher. I think he's wonderful. I can't help but wonder what Secretariat would have done in a Breeder's Cup. His run in the Belmont was the greatest race I've ever seen. All the others were great horses; Secretariat was a God.

      It's a staple of that sire line. Unbridled stamped his wide shoulder and stronger loin/hip onto Empire Maker (other Unbridled sons didn't get the same balance) who also had a really efficient way of going, and he stamped that shoulder and action onto Pioneerof the Nile and Bodemeister, who in turn seem to have transmitted it to Always Dreaming and (for PotN) Social Inclusion, American Pharoah, Classic Empire (I remember Casse specificlaly describing Classic Empire as moving like a panther) and Cairo Prince whose yearlings and 2 year olds are getting the same kind of comments. Very consistent sire line. But Pharoah seems to have acquired perhaps the most balanced conformation of them all and accordingly the best biomechanics of them.
