    This proves that my words are true. No one from Stevecraft spoke to me knows what the problem is about their failed device. Experience will prove this to everyone.

    Can you put a larger spindle on this? Possibly a standard woodworking router? Great video!

      Yes you can. They have spindle adapter for Dewalt DW611 I think. You can check their website out. Thanks!

    How long did it take? I have had my d840 “fully loaded performance/automatic kit” (good luck finding it now!) for 2 years. I have not taken the MM1000-DI out of the box. I am scared bro. I cannot get this table SQUARE. I think I have a warranty issue. I think the aluminum bed underneath is crooked. Only explanation I can think of that explains what is wrong
    .

    • @GaoDY87
      @GaoDY87  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I would contact their customer support and sort it out. It is possible there is a warranty issue. Have you taken that aluminum bed out and check the flatness yourself? The assembly process was not bad.

    Hi nice video:) ,what u think about your machine after months of using, is it fast and strong enough, stepper motors looks very small?, do u have any dedicated software from stepcraft,do you notice any problems with machine?

    • @GaoDY87
      @GaoDY87  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, the machine is good, not perfect. It is not that fast, and I would say it's light duty and hobby grade. It's good for wood cutting, ok for aluminum/brass. Stepcraft provide with customized UCCNC software. I never used other software so I cannot comment much about it. But UCCNC works good for me.The problem with this machine is that it will require some adjustments and maintenance during first several months of usage. And the aluminum rails may flex a bit after some use, which will cause uneven smoothness along the rails and loss of dead accuracy. Overall it is a good machine, the price is on a bit high side comparing to other desktop CNCs.

      Thank You for quick answer, I couldn't find any honest review on the youtube, only videos made by manufacturers, for so much many You shouldn't deal with any problems

      Hi Filip, I bought it from their US website. Stepcraft is a German company. If you are in UK it should be easy to order from their website. Check out www.stepcraft-systems.com/en/ or www.stepcraft.us/.

    Thank you for sharing, would you buy it again or based on your experience some other brand? i had some bad experience with the Maslow cnc, and want to do it right this time.

    • @GaoDY87
      @GaoDY87  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. I think it really depends on what you want to do with it, what scale of your projects are and your budget. When I was choosing my desktop CNC, I wanted to have a fairly large working area with good quality build. At that time (end of 2016) I compared Shapeoko 3 and X-Carve with Stepcraft D840. D840 was a bit more expensive but seemingly more durable and solid build, much higher Z range, and a key feature, versatility. Since I wanted to be able to do more kinds of job by changing attachments, like drag knife, laser head, 3D printing head and etc.. As of now, would I buy it again? Probably not. Either I save a bit more for their M or even Q series, or, for the same amount of money of my whole D840 system, I might choose other DIYable CNC kit on the market. If I figured I don't need that many functions anymore, I would probably go for some cheaper system like X-Carve or some other brand that I don't know of yet. Stepcraft's D series is a good system but on a bit expensive side. Again, it all depends on what you want out of it. Hope this helps.

    Are these hard to do or should I pay the $500

    • @GaoDY87
      @GaoDY87  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, that highly depends on if you are good at mechanic and assembly. In my opinion, if you have past experience on machine works and are really hands-on, save the dollars and enjoy the process of building it up. Otherwise, pay the company to let them assemble and fine tune it for you, to save time and hassle. Good luck!

      Thanks. It's good enough for my purposes. I just wish Y axis could be more rigid. The aluminum gantry rail is not rigid enough IMHO.

    Hi, you have great video! I have a question about video. As i see, you have aluminium base platform which i think isn’t part of regular 840 kit. Did you bought it seperately? also, do you know video how to make one? It doesn’t has to be from aluminium

    • @GaoDY87

      Hi, thanks! Yes it is a separate part from Stepcraft. I did make another scrap board from MDF. I guess you can do a search on CNC scrap board on TH-cam there should be plenty of videos on that topic.

    Damn I wish I knew about this machine before I bought the shapeoko because the Shapeoko is belt driven this is problably more sturdy

    • @GaoDY87
      @GaoDY87  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Maybe. The down side of lead screw is backlash. Mine has noticeable backlash. But in the software it pre-configured with backlash compensation. It's not dead precise for sure, but for hobby milling it should be good enough.

      I actually have owned it for almost 3 years. Didn't use it everyday but every now and then when I had projects to do. It has limitations but once you understand what it's built for this is a good machine. It needs tune ups and maintenance here and there still. And it's definitely upgradeable which I hope I have chance to do in the future. It works good for hobby woodworking, and some light soft metal cutting.

      Yeah thanks for the comment. As I stated in the video description "this is how I built". I never claimed this was a tutorial, neither in the title nor in the description. The assembly manual of this CNC does really good job showing how to build it.

    • @GaoDY87
      @GaoDY87  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry just saw your comment. How do you like it now? Mine was purchased back in late 2016. I think over the past couple of years they made some improvements such as, like you said, the performance kit with bigger stepper motors. Except for some backlash issue on mine which will have some impact on precision machining, it never had severe step jumps on me. If it does that, definitely check its lead screw/rail guide adjustments and fine tuning.
