Are you not giving ratings at the top of the show anymore? Not that I'm upset, I like it either way, just thought it was doing better for your metrics.
I had never played a Prince of Persia game before and my only previous metroidvania game had been Guacamelee. My experience with the game was kind of similar. I really enjoyed certain sections but after a while it became a bit tiring to backtrack around the huge map, even with the fast travel points. I also had to look up a guide to beat certain bosses, as I just wasn't clever enough to figure out on my own how to dodge some of their attacks, like the red orbs from the snake or the move of the ship guy that covers the whole ground for a long time. People have been quite critical in recent times of characters giving hints without being asked (like in God of War) and it should definitely be an optional thing but in these boss fights I wouldn't have minded Sargon saying "maybe I should use this ability" after being hit by a certain boss move again and again.
Maybe this should be $40 instead of $50. Not to discount its quality but $40 seems to be the sweet spot for a game like this. Well, I know it won't flop like Beyond Good & Evil did.
I agree this is a great game but $40 seems just about perfect for what you get. Dont get me wrong I pay top price for all my PS5 games but this one just seems like a $40 game.
Really? Did you now explore and upgrade weapons? I mean you could reduce enemy health if you wanted to compensate. Enemies can seem spongy but they're fun to fight. Bosses health is too low at 1.0, 1.5 is fine
It's not bad... but it's not good either. That's why it's not talked about. It kinda came off a fairly forgettable. I remember enjoying it at the time but can't remember anything aside from the ostrich race... and even then I think I'm just remembering g a behind the scenes moment talking about it.
It’s an incredible game and has been an absolute blast to play. This is actually my very first metroidvania experience, and I’ve enjoyed the exploration, platforming, puzzles, and combat so much that I’m already looking forward to diving in to some of the other big names, like Ori, Hollow Knight, and Metroid Dread. Being new to this genre, I can honestly say it’s been one of the most challenging games I’ve ever played. Even on normal difficulty there were certain boss fights or platforming sections that took me upward of 20 tries to beat. But when you finally figure it out and get past a part you were struggling with, is incredibly satisfying. The time powers are so dope and once you start integrating them all into your fights and traversal, there is this awesome fluidity to it all that just feels really good. I’m playing on PC and fortunately have only had one noticeable bug with the start of the pirate’s side quest. I’ll be going for a full completion before moving on to my next game.
Currently playing prince of Persia after having just beat Metroid dread. It felt more rewording exploring Metroid. Lost crown feels so easy to get lots trying to figure out where to go next
I beat this game, I had a good time and I do agree that the game is slightly off from being as good as the Ori titles or something like Metroid Dread. There are times where the story feels extremely disjointed because of the nature of the game. I remember when I encountered some of the NPCs they said things that didn't really make sense in the context because I had accidently sequence breaked the game a few times. I like the upgrades, I like the movement and the combat. The art and sound direction are top-notch and the presentation is really good too. The story I can take or leave, I don't really play metroidvanias for a narrative but if it has a good narrative then that's just icing on the cake. I do like metroidvanias that have really strong environmental storytelling and world building however. Hollow knight, Metroid dread, the Ori games, etc all of them have really solid world building. Finally, the progression in this game felt a little weird. I hated running into a chest only to find some useless item, I didn't use the mind things that much and I don't really like having skins as a in-game reward from a chest (It would have been nice if the skins were given as a reward for completing certain coins or puzzles). Also, finding a chest that just gives time crystals really deflates the feeling of reward. Anyway, it's a solid game but it's not one of the top tier metroidvanias unfortunately.
I think I have some of the older Prince of Persia games and they were definately a fun ride. Hopefully this game gets enough of a positive reception to warrant a sequel and expand the Universe.
Just can't get into Prince of Persia. I just find the stories and settings dull. I know this ones different in gameplay but I still have a hard time wanting to play as much as it is recommended to me
Prince of Persia definitely feels like the kind of game I want to dive into at some point. I've always been a fan of a good Metroidvania, and from what I've seen of this one, it certainly feels like it'd scratch that particular gaming itch, given the opportunity. The platforming alone looks exceptionally smooth, though a little bit slippery, but as a whole not too bad. The combat has always felt exciting to watch, and I can only imagine feels way better to actually play. The art style is very nice, even if the "semi-animated profile images" thing feels a smidge. . . Stiff looking, but I don't mind it too much. All in all, it's a very interesting looking game, that I'll most certainly have to snag down the line. Great video as always, Jirard. Keep up the great work my dude.
Hey Jirard...I had the SAME bug, but at the Pirate Side Quest... I tried to accept the side quest multiple times. Even changing skins and amulets, and the game would not let me move Sargon. I'm so frustrated, I haven't played it back again since.
It is, especially each of the new moves you get which are more varied than most metroidvanias so it feels fresh.
