My Grandmother gave me a cassette of this album for Christmas. She knew nothing about popular music and must have selected the album at random from what was being featured at the record store. Best Christmas present ever, I think of my Grandmother every time I hear this song!

When real DJs existed, there was no term/genre called alternative music. Alternative to what?
The local college and University radio stations played all kinds of tunes and even had a show with six local acts a couple x a week called "the home brewed six pack."
Some of those bands ended up becoming national and international touring acts to go on to play Lollapalooza and make the billboard charts.

Somebody asked Edie to explain the lyrics and she said, "Well, the lyrics are like a mirror to the soul-reflecting the complexity of human experience. They're not meant to be confined to a single meaning. Rather, they invite you to engage with them, let them resonate within your own personal journey. Ultimately, the meaning is in constant flux, as it evolves with each listener, each moment in time. It's a delicate dance between intention and interpretation."

The great Matt Chamberlain on drums. Two years after this performance, he would become Pearl Jam's drummer, but only for about a month because he got a gig as SNL's house band drummer (although I have yet to see video of him drumming on SNL). He would then go on drumming for Fiona Apple, Tori Amos and other musicians, as well as drumming on the Wallflower's 1996 album Bringing Down The Horse in the songs 'One Headlight' and '6th Avenue Heartache'. I wish he still played like he did with Pearl Jam and Edie Brickell. His playing evolved to a weird style lacking the tasty chops you hear here.

Such a good band. They were way ahead of their time. This was the 80's! She does not look anything like an 80's girl. 🔥🔥🔥

Love her music, this was a great period for music, and Edie has been a great artist of 90's. I'm so glad to live my teen-ages in that period... And she was so gracious... And I love the jeans style (501) of that period

I remember the song, but watching her live, that is just natural raw talent. And there's no other recordings of her doing other songs from back then? Why? There's only two that I could find of her live, doing this song. Why? The other one is on David Letterman, which I guess that's where she meant Simon, from Simon and Garfunkel. I don't get it???
