Yeah, the 2nd Ave location was much better! I don't know what happened since because the owners are still the same so I think it must be the management but the fries are undercooked too often which is hard to achieve especially as they are double fried! I used to be crazy about the old place but now I stopped going.

Sorry for nerding out but I love that you are including tv and movie locations. Part of the movie KIDS plays right by the fountain at Washington Square. I thought your inner nerd would direct you to "The Uncommons" a cafe with hundreds of board games where you can just hang out for hours playing games with your friends, I'm sure they have a Jurassic Park board game. It's close to Generation Records, the best stop for visitors who are record collectors etc. Blue Note Jazz Club is probably the #1 place to go in the city and is always packed especially on the weekends. Blue Note records was and is one of the most influential jazz labels in history. And talking about music: the Def Jam label and the first Beastie Boys, Run DMC and Slayer records were all founded and released from Rick Rubins NYU dorm room on University Place. Can't wait to see the rest of your neighbourhoods series!
John Barr. Good dependable sounding name. Hard to live up to a name like that. A name like that sounds like he should be a sergeant in the Marines. Or a Police Detective, Firefighter or notorious jailbird maybe. You'd hope he was a big shovel mitted burly sort at least. Is John Barr actually a fierce & mighty man?

If you do a follow up in a year or two, don’t forget Julius’s bar. That’s the real center of the LGBTQ community as it’s where gay professionals met to organize and become a political movement. Stonewall was the powder keg, but Julius’ was its foundation. It’s also the oldest NYC gay bar, I believe, since The Candle Bar closed in 2015 in the UWS. It’s a welcoming bar for everyone and has historic posters and stories of the Mattachine Society.
My favorite neighborhood in the city. I'm so lucky to live here. Btw across from the Friends building is the oldest house in nyc. Love that you know about the Old Rabbit Club 😉
