Greenwich Village 🤝 Phonk
Being the urbanist that I am, a visit to Greenwich Village isn't complete without a trip by 555 Hudson Street, the home of Jane Jacobs when she wrote the classic "Life and Death of Great American Cities".
My husband who grew up in Chicago but spent his first years in New York in Greenwich Village, loved your video and had this to say.
Luis, thanks for a great video. I might add what is now the Jefferson Market Library was once a courthouse. The entire lot also included the Women's House of Correction, occupying the Southern side of the lot down to Greenwich Street. There was a low Victorian structure, and a higher structure on West 10th Street in the same style as the courthouse. Sometime in the 1920s I believe a very large Art Deco building was built that extended from 6th Avenue up Greenwich to West 10th. My neighbor when I lived on Patchin Place off 10th remembered hearing noises from there. Also, up until sometime in the 90s or a bit later, across 10th and on 6th Avenue for a long time was the Jefferson Market, a very nice grocer. I wonder what the history of the place name is.
Sorry, Greenwich Avenue. Confusing!
Nice and relaxing music 🎶 🎵. Nice garden with birds 🐦 🦢🦆🦜 🥗🍲🍰🧁 This is the world 🌎 famous LGBT neighborhood (or I think it is). 🌈⛈️🌧🏳️🌈🇫🇷🎞☕️
