I mean, the thing about the Russian army is if you hit someone, they've probably got a row of medals and stars on their lapels. The entire Russian Federation military, like the Soviet one, is incredibly officer heavy. Just have a look at the ranks alone -- 2 enlisted ranks, i.e the grunts, and 6 NCO ranks. But for officers? Up to 14 ranks in total. Must look very nice coming home from pretending to train for war, but when that war actually happens, an HQ full of strategists will do nothing if the rank and file are struggling to do anything but keep their head down. "Officers" means anyone operating something bigger than a truck. I don't doubt these Ukrainian soldiers are targeting specific weaknesses in their chain of command, but the title from CNN reeks of total lack of knowledge about the history or subject.
You're not entirely wrong, but targeting and eliminating the leadership chain means they're left with only grunts who can do nothing more than shoot or do a single task. Ukraine has been quite successful taking out most of the skilled or experienced Russian generals and commanders, which is very significant and no doubt is a major reason the Russians have had such difficulty with utilizing advanced tactics or making any useful decisive moves. While it's less effective than on some other militaries, what they're doing is still very effective and extraordinarily demoralizing. Imagine getting promoted because you survived a few firefights but know that now you have a giant red target painted on your head from then on.

I am just gonna say.... They probably don't want to think about all the "Russian's they killed" and are more concerned about how many of their own survived and how close are they to keeping their homes and maintaining their independence.. mind you I'm not a soldier, I haven't served and this is just my opinion. By no means do I claim to KNOW everything and every emotion attached to war.. and the military.....That being said, I just don't think that's something soldiers WANT to remember and constantly be asked, and reminded of those adrenaline packed immense fight or flight and fighting the bodies autonomic fear response and so much more....I just don't think they want to go back to those moments with anyone, even those qualified and willing to help. I definitely would not want to chat to a random who asks about someone's "wartime body count." I also understand this is the news, and it's what's probably going to be the question on a lot of viewers minds, yet why not respect these men. They already have enough and then some on their plates. Feel free to tell me if I'm being arrogant, ignorant, or flat out wrong. I'd rather learn than spout nonsense, personally.

I mean, the thing about the Russian army is if you hit someone, they've probably got a row of medals and stars on their lapels. The entire Russian Federation military, like the Soviet one, is incredibly officer heavy. Just have a look at the ranks alone -- 2 enlisted ranks, i.e the grunts, and 6 NCO ranks. But for officers? Up to 14 ranks in total. Must look very nice coming home from pretending to train for war, but when that war actually happens, an HQ full of strategists will do nothing if the rank and file are struggling to do anything but keep their head down.
"Officers" means anyone operating something bigger than a truck. I don't doubt these Ukrainian soldiers are targeting specific weaknesses in their chain of command, but the title from CNN reeks of total lack of knowledge about the history or subject.

You're not entirely wrong, but targeting and eliminating the leadership chain means they're left with only grunts who can do nothing more than shoot or do a single task. Ukraine has been quite successful taking out most of the skilled or experienced Russian generals and commanders, which is very significant and no doubt is a major reason the Russians have had such difficulty with utilizing advanced tactics or making any useful decisive moves.
While it's less effective than on some other militaries, what they're doing is still very effective and extraordinarily demoralizing. Imagine getting promoted because you survived a few firefights but know that now you have a giant red target painted on your head from then on.
