Thanks for your videos - they're very helpful. I plan on using a long clear poly tube connected to the transmission, with a funnel on the other end. I'll raise the funnel up to door handle height, then fill with Mercon fluid. Because liquids find there own level, whether in a swimming pool or in a tube, the fluid can fill the transmission without the need of a pump. Thank you Aristotle.
Great video, enjoyed watching it. Having done this a few times myself, about the only little thing I could add to it was when you removed the old filter, be sure to put some trans fluid on your fingers and rub that onto the two o-rings of the new filter. Helps it slide in and helps prevent it from getting stuck later on when you have to remove it.

Yo bro good video. I have an ‘03 explorer, with 170k miles on it. The transmission started slipping 2 days ago. I bought 2 quarts of the correct fluid and some “Transmission Stop Slip”. How would I go about fixing this problme
Hey bud. At 170k, that transmissions best years are behind it. Slipping on a 5R is usually fluid pressure loss due to bands or servos. That stop slip won’t do anything. Lately I’ve seen 03 trans on Facebook marketplace pop up for like $500. I’d get one of those and have it installed for another 500. For a grand you’re back on the road for another 100k

Have you seen anyone make their own dip stick for these transmissions? I have found one online and I also have seen someone do it before too and they filled through dipstick. Was interesting.
I have not. But to be honest this is mad simple to do because the trans literally levels itself out. You don’t need to keep pulling the dipstick and worry about overfilling.

My Explorer just hit 159,000 so do you think I'm in that grey area for an fluid change or do you think it is a bad idea? What about if it got a fluid change once, like 100,000 miles ago? What if I try to drain and swap 1/2 or 1/3 of the fluid? Any of your thoughts are appreciated! Thanks!
@@iamdjnam Hi, right yeah that was the plan. @@iamdjnam no, it was cold. I broke the stupid hand pump in the middle of doing the 4th quart. So I took the nipple out, thinking it was not going to leak since I hadn't done 5 yet and it was pouring out of the fill hole. I put the little plug in real quick but you can see my confusion...
I got one for ya, 06 xplorer, was leaking a drop here drip there. It got way worse. We yanked it, did a main front seal, reinstalled, drove around the block, around town on streets. Was fine.. Get it on the hwy and in 2,3-5 miles starting blowing out the bellhousing like before we did the seal. Meaning front seal was not the issue, ok. With low pressure we blew into the vent tube with air the fluid bubbles so the vent tube is not clogged. Drop the pan looks at the filter it was not that bad flood was nice and bright red. Higher mileage transmission it was service throughout its life from the original owner that my buddy bought it from they have replaced the valve body a year-and-a-half ago maybe. Any idea I've worked actually leaking from where the bellhousing in the motor connect? Any insight from anyone would be great.. I wasn't really paying attention cuz I was just glad to have it done but if it's over full this is what'll happen right.. I'll have to ask my buddy if he's did a self leveling while it's warm.. other than that man I'm I'm up in arms on what's going on with this tranny I don't do Fords I play with Chevy's 4064 a lady 700 r4 s400 turbo never had a trans problem with like this before..
It need a rebuild, the input shaft bearings worn, input shaft not turning true, got a wobble when turning cause of wear and tear, wobble causing seal to fail. So if you keep just doing seal it will be sure to keep trashing new seal relatively quickly. National will love you for it, you wallet maybe not so much. There was a reason that the seal on the input shaft started leaking and you fixed the result, you didn't fix what caused the result. Good luck bro.
Actually have a question about my 05 4.0, it is quiet until it gets warmed up, then it rattles, it's quiet as a church mouse until warm, u ever run into that
@@iamdjnam here's my thought, if my motor is quiet until the oil pressure drops due to hot oil, do I need to replace the chains and guides, as it sounds fine when cold, the front cassette is in good shape, and I bought a complete chain and tensioners set, but it was cheap, I'm thinking the guides and cassittes are all I am going to replace, and keep the stock chains, will this cure the rattle, or should I just buy higher quality chains, my explorer is lifted with 33 in tire

Did he ever have the transmission serviced, I mean it sounds like he stayed up on everything if so how many miles ago that will tell you if you need to do it or don't risk
I've seen some other sources/sites where they say not all of the fluid will come out by draining so you have to put in as much fluid as you can, drive it a bit, drain again, top off with new fluid, drive it again, etc etc....repeat this 2-3 times, so all the fluid in the trans is displaced by new fluid.

I've only put three and a half quarts of new fluid in and it's already a full stream coming out (cold) like yours was when you said it was overfilled. I'm not sure if I should keep putting more in. Thoughts?
Is it at a heated idle? The pan itself should hold around 6. Go thru the gears and let the solenoid fill.
@@chriss.3476 needs to be warm.
@@iamdjnam so when it's warm, it WON'T leak?
When it’s warm it’ll take more fluid that’s why in my video I specifically mentioned the temperature and how long I’ve let it idle
wondering if you have a good video on transmission removal and install on the explorers
I wish. I have 2 steel rods in my back so unfortunately a transmission swap would be too much for me. I’d gladly pay the $1000 to have a shop do it.
They're not real fun
Where did u get the pipe to jose adapter home Depot or lowes is it the same for a mercury mountaineer 09
I got mine at Autozone and yes it’s the same
That’s something that would happen to me that’s why I bought a new setup doing mine in a couple of days 😂 😂
Is this the same fill procedure with a Brand New Transmission?
Assuming the torque converter is pre-filled, the trans will take a couple quarts more to fill the valve bodies.
@@iamdjnam Yeah I believe the manufacturer said that the Torque converter is pre filled.
Sometimes the torque converter swear a groove into the input and a new seal is not adequate. Happens all the time on older Lexus cars.
I got questions can the Ford F-150 4.2 v6 fit into the 2001 explorer sport and what would I need to make it happen
The bellhousing on the transmission is different. You’d need a completely different trans, engine mounts, harness, ECU, driveshaft, etc etc.
How do we lift back ???
Rear diff
Any different on a 98 Explorer? Same engine and I believe trans.
Different process.
I drained the tranny fluid out buy removing the tranny plug how many quarts dose it take to fill it up
Add 6 then start it then use this procedure to let the transmission self level
Actually have a question about my 05 4.0, it is quiet until it gets warmed up, then it rattles, it's quiet as a church mouse until warm, u ever run into that
Yeah because the oil pressure is around 60psi when cold keeping the chains tight. When it warms up it drops to around 10.
Buy a full chain/tensioner/component kit. The factory chains stretch and will still make faint noise even with new tensioners and guides.
I have a complete chain kit with cassettes and all , but it is the lowest priced version, have you used the cheap kit? Hate to waste all the effort and it fails
Yeah it’s garbage. Get the $200+ kits. I used one that was $49 and it’s still going but I can swap these in less than a day.
I broke my breaker bar trying to spin off the bolts for the strut on my explorer
I skinned my knuckles on exhaust bolts today
Do you do it in park
Yup
Does this work for a 2006 mustang GT?
Yes
Yeaaaaaaa baby,,that's wram talkn bout rite der.
What was that pump ? How do you make that ?
That’s the secret sauce 😈
Genius
Thanks for showing all the steps…now I know I’d rather have a shop deal with this mess. 😂
Need a used transmission and a rear timing chain tensor before it breaks 115kmilage front was done at 80 let me know if you are interested
Nah sorry
Can’t hurt to ask your channel is great keep it up ! does the front cross member have to come out with a o6 explorer and do you know what size the o2 sensor are loos like I have to remove the passenger side to get to the manifold bolts. Where should I get the rear cassette from dealer? Thanks Walter
How many quarts you used?
6ish. But don’t go by that. Fill it until the trans tells you it’s full.
@@iamdjnam thanks
Can these trans go into mustangs like a 06 mustang 4.0
its the same trans but different output shaft.
Doesnt this transmission requires 13 quartz ??
That’s assuming total flush. Not a simple pan drop.
same procedure as a BMW tranny, cant understand why manufacturers seem to hate the idea of a dipstick and tube ???
💯
I got a 08 ford explorer, got it from an older guy who had it serviced every 3 months... had it for a little over a year now and was wondering if it would be okay to get the fluid and filter changed? Haven't done it yet and it's a high mileage vehicle. It runs good and was well taken care of. So to late to worry about the filter you think or still good? Appreciate any help.
If it’s high mileage I wouldn’t risk it.
Did he ever have the transmission serviced, I mean it sounds like he stayed up on everything if so how many miles ago that will tell you if you need to do it or don't risk
I have to take the risk I got 210,000 miles on the thing trans fluid never been touched and it started slipping bad
It’s true. But if you change it like this every 30k the trans literally will last such a long time.
Hey brother , I owned Explorer 08 , recently I top up my transmission fluid whiteout opening the pan , after that my transmission started giving loud noise , can you please advise what went wrong and what should I do now , gear shifting also affected with a bit delay.
Could be overfilled or wrong fluid was used.
@@iamdjnam yes you are right it was overfilled , today I went to the technician and gave him a hard time in explaining , it was more then a liter extra , today I removed the excess oil , but the sound is still coming same like metal squeaking sound
Chris fix face reveal 😂
EVERYBODY SAYS THIS 💀
Pulled it & Realized Somethin' Bigger than that is Supposed to be Inserted in that ...What !
I’m lost lol
Your hair full f transmission fluid, an excuse for a full haircut. Happy Tuesday.
If you don't like getting you're curls greasy don't fix on cars bud! Jp😂😂

The fuking man !!!
🤘🏻🤘🏻
Over 125-130 you pushing it over 130000 don't do it
It’s a hit or miss
You are a goofball, why does everyone like hearing themselves talk. Looking at the younger generation, maybe talking to them like kindergartners is appropriate.

Being a mechanic or just doing that type of work is a test in patience, just know going in that most of the job may not go smoothly, flip Ole Murphy off a couple times and you can go back at it. Ha! 40 + years of bending wrenches is very mmmmm. You will see, you have good common sense and never forget to look outside the box.
Fix it ideas will come to you in REM sleep, learn a remembering technique like yelling brazos or something when the answer to your problems plays out in front of you.
In this case maybe --"CRAZY 4.0"-.
Can I use dexron 3 & Mercian specification for an 07
No use specifically Mercon V. You’ll destroy the trans.
