I bought a 2003 explorer with 210k miles for $600. Owner thought it threw a rod or worn bearing after hearing a loud rattle coming from within the engine and didn't want to fix it. After doing some research I believe it's the infamous 4.0 sohc death rattle coming from the front timing chain. It also needs a valve cover gasket and there is oil one of the spark plugs as well as rear diff is leaking fluid. Other than the engine problems, the condition of this car is a solid A. Tires are brand new including spare, absolutely no damage to the body other than that notorious crack down the back hatch. Interior is pretty pristine for an 03. It has no rust at all. All of the electronics work. AC blows ice cold. I'm sure the transmission is reaching the end but as of now still works well. My question is, what should I do with it. I really need another vehicle that can pull a medium trailer and would consider having it fixed if it made sense to do so. Would it be worth it to pull the engine and replace the timing components and gaskets or is the engine past its expiration date? This guy watches VGG. 😅😅. This was a great video. I am having transmission issues on my mountaineer and my have to pull it
Do you know if it’s possible to remove transfer case on a 06-10 without removing the crossmember? I know it can be done easily on 02-05, not sure about later models.
Not sure.
@@iamdjnam thanks for the reply.
How much do u charge for a job like this, also where state r u in. I have a 2010 explorer and it seems to have a tranny leak coming from the top of the bell housing. Any suggestions?
I don’t usually do transmission swaps due to a bad back. This was for video purposes.
Can you do a subaru ascent?
Does the 5R55S come with the 4.6 V8 aswell?
Yes from 02-05
I really like this video is clear and very helpful
Wondering if you have any videos pressure testing a fuel line as I believe my fuel pump went bad? Or fuel pump replacement?
It's a 2007 ford explorer sport trac
@@davidenglert2799 if you get a decent scan tool, you can read fuel psi. They stopped putting pressure shrader valves on the fuel rails in 04
@@iamdjnam Okay I will try that. Thank you
@@iamdjnam one quick question, can a fuel filter stop the pump from pumping fuel?
@@davidenglert2799 yes. Disconnect the fuel filter and bump the key to see if the pump sends fluid out
What would an estimate for ** just labor** be to do this trans swap?
$800-1200
Thank you for making this video
Happy to help

THANK YOU GOOD MAN . GREETINGS FROM PERU.
That was a very detailed video....two thumbs up
Is he accurate when he says 5 thousand TONS?
So young man here's an old-school trick for you what you do is take some half inch rebar cut it the length you need cut one of your half-inch drive 3-in extensions in half double it for welding it really hard put a big old weld the connection be mostly Weld and that way you know it's really strong and I've never broken one even with the impact so I make up to three Footers for the big Chrysler transmission
Good idea. My father is a welder. I’ll have him fabricate some up.
@@iamdjnam ways to make a 6 footer to pull the back seat out of a car and reach in there and take the three bolts out of the trunk latch without damaging the trunk lid when you didn't have the key
Your talented !!!

Buying a used engine seems like a dice roll and hooking a reman to a 200k transmission doesn't seem to sensible. I'd appreciate some guidance! thanks!
If there’s no body rust, get a used engine, replace the rear timing chain guide and send it!
wow im going to jung my 99 ford ex 4x4
