    Thumbs up for your accent, pleasant demeanor and not editing out that part where the filter fell off. I enjoyed watching this, thank you!

      Also, how much atf did you end up using? If you said it in there, I didn’t hear it.

      I believe we used about 5 quarts of transmission fluid to refill the transmission pan. We typically fill the transmission pan first then bolt it to the truck and then transfer pump the rest into the transmission pan. It is easier if you have someone hold the pan in place while you tighten the transmission pan bolts so that you don't spill the transmission fluid all over the place. Hope this helps you out.

    Hi I have and 06 awd 190,000 and I want to change the fluid and filter but one mechanic said I shouldn't seeing how I don't have a problem do you agree ty

    • @HomeOwnerRepair
      @HomeOwnerRepair  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would probably change the transmission filter and top it off with new transmission fluid. The transmission filter filters out particles that might be floating around in the transmission fluid. Sometimes these tiny particles can get caught in the transmission valve body causing shifting issues.

    Hey, thank you for the info. Does the filter fit every Ford Explorer v6, v8, Eddie Bauer?

    thank you for the video and walk through. 02 explorer with 136k miles, trans was rebuilt @ 47k. fluid swapped @ 75k. Now the pan has actually rusted through! (3 palces near drain plug) and is leaking (MN winters) . I have purchased a used pan but I have a feeling I am going to snap off plenty of the bolts to that pan as they look badly corroded . I am waiting for warmer weather but besides heat do you have any other tips that may help in breaking those 8mm bolts loose? thank you.

      Just go slow, sometimes we will reverse out the bolt a turn then screw back in a 1/2 turn in an effort to prevent a really stubborn one from breaking.

      If it is coming from the engine it could be something internal.

    • @HomeOwnerRepair

      You can fill the transmisison pan with fluid bolt it into place, then let it run as you transfer pump the rest of the fluid in. This is explained in the video.

      @HomeOwnerRepair mine has a 6 speed transmission. I figured it out, and yeah, it's way different

    What a insane way to check and fill a transmission, the Ford engineers must have be working the the cost cutter to design that insanity. What a wasteful way to do things and when you multiply that by hundred of thousands of vehicles or millions think of all the waste it creates in lost transmission fluid. Insane Ford Engineering.

      Yup, They do not make it easy for the average guy to maintain the transmission fluid level. It is ridiculous.

    How to destroy an explorer transmission with over 100,000 miles? Drop the pan replace the filter and add new fluid IMHO

    • @HomeOwnerRepair
      @HomeOwnerRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Replacing the transmission filter is routine maintenance on this vehicle. The transmission filter acts in the same way as your oil filter does, it filters out debris and particles floating around in the fluid. All it takes is a small piece of debris floating around in the fluid to hang up that valve body and then your truck won't shift properly...happens all the time.

      I've flushed multiple vehicles over 200k and never had an issue. If the trans is so bad that it's replying on the floating friction material it's already junk.

      How ever I guess that since I know your only repeating what you heard heard . I’ll let you know why and the scenario you speak of . If it’s already slipping then there’s generally clutches burnt out and the clutch material floating around in that case will help . Essentially it’s just a matter of time though :)
