A look at the new RED Scarlet-X 4K camera. In this video: Operation, 3rd party accessories, PL mount and use with the Atomos Samurai. See the related article on cinema5D: www.cinema5d.co...
If you use a Canon EF-S lens in 5K (time-lapse frame rates only), you'll see no crop difference from an EF-S camera like the 7D or T2/3i. Other lenses and settings will produce varying amounts of angle crop. There are good charts online showing this.
@Laceyktm Hence my suggestion to purchase a dslr. This camera wasn't made exclusively to shoot videos on youtube. It's intended towards the professional market.
Nice video. I'll be shooting a project with this camera in a few days. Is there anything I should know? Are there specific picture profiles in RED cameras like most other cameras? I'm trying to shoot as flat as possible. And how do you expose on a RED? For example I'm used to shooting with Sony cameras where you expose to the right. How do I make sure I'm properly exposed on the RED scarlet?
2000 is about as high as I like to take it for graininess, but so far it will go up to 12800. The firmware is always changing, so both of those numbers could change. What's cool is, it records the ISO in RAW, so you can change it in post.
This camera is for professional/advance videographers (or rich ones) who want to shoot at 4k resolution for their indie films to be shown at film festivals. Other than that, it's overkill.
@sheawee He didn't say it would be obsolete, he just said it would be more readily available in more 'user-friendly' and affordable technology in a few years. If you want to blow 11k on a camera to show your films on TH-cam then that's your lookout but personally I'd wait or actually start making a living out of filmmaking first.
@AtactHD By that rationale, buying any piece of technology at any point in time is hopeless because six months later it will be obsolete. If you have to ask what the camera does that makes it worth $11,000 you should probably be in the market for a dlsr or some other piece of amateur equipment.
"The auto focus is very slow, so it is reccomended that you use it in only non-live situations. It is a 16 thousand dollar camera! Why would you be using it live? Would you use your external monitor, 4k, 13 dynamic stops, raw, and some sort of jib for your kids birthday? Yeah, I think not. Better stick with the Arri Alexa and just a dolly. :)
Love the grooovy dated background music in this (otherwise useful) video - it sounds like an old 70's porno movie soundtrack ...but no surprise, this video is from another time too...
wow you will have to wait a lot longer for this technology to come to your smartphones. even nowadays smartphones don't have the film quality of cameras from 1980.
It s a very very stupid idea to shoot events or concerts on a red ... for this you should use a alexa or broadcast cameras... You only have about 30 min runtime, then you need to change the batterie... believe me, I worked a lot of time with a Red One MX... We used it in a scenic workflow, had about 8 batteries, 4 chargers, about 6 128gb ssd s always on set and this was absolutely indispensable... Oh and a normally rigged Red One ( with matte box, lens and batterie ) weights about 36 lbs ;) have fun with it at a concert... Ok Red One and Scarlet are a bit different ... but only a little bit
I shoot all Weddings on 70mm Film Stock, with cranes, helicopters, special effects and matte paintings....
Loved "WEG" ! Just ordered my camera. Can't wait!

Well this review sucked. No footage of what the camera can do???
How much did you pay for the camera with the minimum additionals?
How much crop is there when using the Canon mount?
The Epic can shoot at 5k at 120fps and 2k (a bit more than 1080p) at 300fps.
Is it worth buying this camera today or would it be smarter to buy a canon c200 or something like that?

@AtactHD
I don't see any PL mount smart phones coming...ever.
emm if im correct at 1:53 it seems that you have broken on-board monitor cable =D
What about shooting concerts or other events?
It could've been nice if you recorded the last part of the tutorial with RED itself ;)

What??!! you are using a Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 on a RED?? sweeeet :)

...but it just recently got out of back order.

Why is it grey and not black?

Is that a Tyco-shirt?
Whats the max iso?
One day you will be mine!
Get the Blackmagic Cinema, pretty much similar video for about a fraction of the cost

The black version costs 3x more ;)
nice!
its full frame
what does this camera even do that makes it worth $11,000? i mean why not just wait 3 years for this technology to be in our smartphones?
It's been 6 years and our smart phones are still crap. Lol.
@AtactHD LOL soo true
so much bass in the audio
about 14,000 dollars
not worth the price tag for net use
i rather buy the canon t2i
Unscrewed, i think
