Learn to paint loose and expressive poppy flowers in acrylics and mixed media. We'll use several painting techniques such as layering and mixed media mark-making.
Join me in todays video where I'll paint a loose and abstract painting of poppies in acrylics with mixed media details. I love flowers and poppies are some of my favorites. Poppy flowers are both fragile and strong at the same time - and they usually only last for a day - at least where I live I northern Denmark. If you pick them and take them inside they petals will fall off. So to make them last longer I like to paint them. Another way to make the beauty and joy last longer is to - and I LOVE THIS - cut out these small paintings and use them as cards or postcards…. Some of my students have commented that these floral paintings remind them of art by Walasse Ting or Marc Chagall - and I'm honored that they think so.
Use the materials you have or see the specific materials and colors I used listed below.
    Materials:
    Paper: Watercolor paper 300gms/140lb Canson.
Acrylic colors: Titanium White, ivory black, Bright green, yellow ochre, Quinacridone Crimson, wedgewood blue (light grayish blue).
Watercolor pencils/pastels/crayons: Woody by Stabilo Red, Black and Green.
Additional materials: paper towels, masking tape, various brushes.
For more information on online painting courses etc. see my website: www.danishpaint...
I invest a lot of time and love in filming and editing the videos so I'm happy for your support. Please consider leaving a comment or a like and subscribe to the channel if you would like to see more videos like this :)

It's not long since I've found your paintings and to me it's like finding my direction. To distant myself from getting bugged down on details. I've been trying for long but not knowing how.
I mainly paint in watercolour but your paintings inspire me to paint more in acrylic. I'm learning from your demonstrations how to paint in free and loose way which is very enjoyable. Appreciate your generosity and help. I'd like to see more flower paintings from you. Nahid from Liverpool

Hi Marie Louise! You know I have such a weakness for poppies! It's the flower that I used for my first try at drawing 5 or 6 yrs ago... I love everything about them. Maybe because I like to draw and paint things in a sort of...messy or imperfect way, not sure how to say it. Anyway, these came out so cute! And snail mail is such an under rated form of communication :) I love painting, writing and sending cards that way... just something about it :)
But, another great video and reminders to not over think... I have such a hard time with that part, as do so many obviously! I talk myself out of something I'd previously been super excited to paint by overthinking. Always a struggle :)
    I hope you're doing well my friend!!🥰

Hi Marie Louise, this is a fun warm up exercise, thank you! What is your thinking behind painting the poppies first and the background second? I'm guessing that you wanted to have the white of the paper show through the poppies without having to use what to achieve the light red, but I'd love to hear your strategy. Thank you!
