I don’t remember much of the island but I sure do cherish the memories of the boat rides

As a 6 year old kid, I remember being fascinated with the size of the staircase shown at 2:51. 30 years later, it doesn't seem so big. Amazing how your entire world seems so huge when you're a naive child. If I close my eyes, I can still picture people dancing to "Let's Go Crazy" by Prince and "Dancing On The Ceiling" by Lionel Richie. To me, the entire scene on the SS Columbia was absolutely mind-blowing. At that time in my life, I had never seen so many people in one place having so much fun. To this very day, it's still the most fun that I've ever had in my life. I feel so grateful.

So very sad to see her in this condition, so many memories from my childhood. Four generations of my family enjoyed riding her and going to Boblo Island, it was the treat of every summer for all of us.

Ss Columbia was my favorite boat and it beat every race with ss St Claire lol ahhh fun loving memories with the boblo boats and the wonderful boblo island and I loved the dance floor and going on the back of the boat I love feeding the birds as we were heading to the island

Such a beautiful boat and fun memories of the boblo boats and the island but it's sad that the ss st Clair was burned down I'm excited for ss Columbia was saved and my family and friends were on the boat having a blast including the dance floor playing Philadelphia Freedom and on the way back after the boat was empty they play Kool & the Gang celebration boy what fun memories I'll never forget

Sad to see her leaving us, but I will take her going to the Hudson to breathe new life once more over her going to Port Colborne for a meeting with the cutting torch any day. Hell, though N.Y has never been a place I desire to visit, maybe I will go there for another ride on the Columbia.

Why are they sending it to New York? It belongs on the Detroit river with the SS Ste. Claire. What is left of her after that terrible fire. I hope they can save her.

She doesn't look so bad that a bit of scraping, scaling, sandblasting & a couple coats of paint & maybe $1/2 million of mechanical repairs couldn't have her shipshape seaworthy again!

Amazing that the Michigan government wouldn't lift a finger to protect these two historical treasures. My family had a long history working on these boats. I wrote those pathetic excuses of representatives asking for help preserving them. Yet not one even bothered to write back. Instead they let the Columbia go to NY and now the Ste. Claire burn to the waterline because they didn't care.

The Michigan politicians couldn't make thousands of dollars by saving the SS St. Claire. That's why they didn't care about saving her. Look at the condition of the buildings at Historic Fort Wayne in Detroit. They would look better hit by an arsonist. The Historic homes and buildings would be more attractive burned to the ground.
Then Fort Wayne would look like the rest of Detroit.
A shit looking city. But, the Detroit Munchkin mayor Mike Duggan will never stop standing 🧍‍♂️ on plastic milk crates and yell in a high-pitched voice that
      "Detroit is coming back."
Yep. Back to being the murder capitol of the world and being ribbon 🎀 farms before Cadillac docked at the foot of Woodward Avenue way back when American Indians first saw a white pasty looking guy stepping off a wooden French ship, looking to buy a Detroit coney dog with chili and onions.
