I echo Live Free's comment. I think seeing you give a lesson to a student who genuinely wants to improve his game... like the people who watch your TH-cam videos is a great format. Viewers can relate to the student because we have many of the same swing faults. Great video! Thank you and Josh for sharing.
Amazing. Love the checkpoint of “butt of the club over the right ankle” at the top. Been struggling with achieving enough depth and feeling lost in my takeaway
Hope this one serves you well, John! If you search my name and "takeaway", you'll find a bunch of good ones to help! :) Here's one I did with Dennis Sales to start: th-cam.com/video/BJ__7npvink/w-d-xo.html
Absolute gold. Your realistic, slow, methodical approach to correcting a lifetime of 'lifting' is right on. I've been working on this at GolfTec for one year and changing things like this is glacially slow. Most coaches I've had are in such a hurry to rush you to make immediate and lasting changes. It's not that easy, is it. Keep it up!..I mean deep!
I've been searching YT for this exact video detailing this issue and fix. I've been playing golf 35+ years and struggling with this issue and didn't even know why until now. Thanks so much for this.
Totally agree, please track this guys progress. This is exactly the issue I’m working on with my coach and it’s great to see the approach to the solution. Thank you!
Eric, you're brilliant, I don't say it enough. Your client has great athleticism, but you demonstrating the compensation when swing it incorrect was pure genius. Great teaching!! Sincere kudos 🙏🏽
This really helped me as I tried this and thought I was to deep and low ..I then feel.a fight with hands to keep them low and not rise..if I time it right I instantly hit it straighter snd loose thr cut .slower speed same distance less effort .Once better il.see distance go up as better path !!Nice Eric!
Excellent video! It’s so important to remember that copying what you see form tour players, particularly from static pictures, is not a great idea as you have to relate a certain position to YOUR overall swing. This video has helped remind me that I suit a slightly deeper top of backswing position.
Eric provides the best instructional content on TH-cam. He really hits the key components of the swing and I have seen so much improvement in my game from his content. Thanks Eric!
The before and after are amazing. Just goes to show that feel is not real, and video is critical in confirming what is actually happening in the swing. This format is great, more of these please! I also want to thank you and your team for the great content and online lessons. It's helped immensely, even though I still have lots of work to do!
Eric, this was excellent. I was thinking a few days ago that not enough TH-cam coaches feature a real lesson with a player who has a real problem. I may not have the same problems as shown in this video but the content is solid gold and something for all amateurs to check. Best wishes from UK !
Eric, this is exactly what I’m working on with my club pro. I was way too steep and frustrated as my shots went left, right, all over the place. One lesson with my pro working on getting my backswing deeper and lower had significant positive results. Consistent on line shots and longer distance. Your video gives me a picture of where I want my left arm to be on the backswing. Excellent.
Not to give a competitor some props, but the PlaneMate helped me tremendously with the same plane issue. I dropped shallower almost instantly. Finished 2023 at a .7 handicap, feel I can get a lot better. Your videos are the best on the internet, for me. Thanks!!
By far, this is your BEST video EVER!!! This is me spot on! You've physically shown us why we early extend AND how to fix it. This now makes so much sense. I can see compressing the ball so much better and potentially eliminating my early release. One problem I envision is a snap hook. Does this happen often when transitioning to this type of swing? Would love to see LOTS more videos like this! This is great work Eric!!!
Absolutely brilliant Eric. Josh's problem is what I have been fighting for years. I have a new coach and what you are doing in this lesson is exactly what my coach is trying to get me to do. At first I had a few shanks and a lot of toppy shots but after a while I started to hit the ball with more compression than I have ever experienced. Exaggeration is definitely the way to go because feel certainly isn't real.
"Feel isn't real" - so TRUE! Until you look at a video of your swing, you have no idea how little a change you make, even when it 'feels' like you are doing a massive change lol! I totally sympathized with Josh on that first swing where he tried to take it 'stupid' flat and his club ended up 2" further back. Old habits are hard to break...especially on the course when things start going sideways. Brilliant lesson Eric. I'm a new follower!
Holy Putterheads, this was a fabulous explanation of cause and effect. I have more than my fair share of video, including my own two-camera setup, but this really helped me understand what comes first causes what comes second. Go Eric
Apart from the great golf-mechanics content for Josh, I really liked how Eric really hit home the expectations of how long this might take to fix. This is something I struggle with (as I want the change now), so it was great to hear about the change process from Eric. Fantastic insight and a good takeaway for me.
OMG !!! this is exactly what I do, irons and driver. Josh and I have a very similar body type / size and stature. I think this might be my answer as to why I hit the ball sooooooooooo high with a slight fade / slice being my miss and losing massive distance, as I tend to come over the top on my downswing. Amazing stuff Eric! Thank you so much for posting lessons like this.
It's just so good to have great coach. But this is also good tip for me. I tend to have upright backswing so i need to flatten a bit. Used to be flexible but as age climbing up i feel better with flatter swing. Will try this soon and hope the results will be better.

Exactly what my pro has me working on. Also having the hands feeling like they are waaay low and behind, it forces you to rotate correctly to get the club back to impact 👌
Amazing lesson as always Eric! I have similar backswing faults as this gentleman…I noticed he has an inside takeaway like me with a late wrist hinge. I find that when the shaft gets inside too early, the wrists set late. To compensate, I find i make a More vertical backswing like this gentleman to re route the club and give me more time to hinge the club. I find Eric’s backswing and takeaway video has really improved my depth 👍
Hi Eric, fantastic content. I have been watching your videos recently and your explanation is best in class. My personal favourites are the basket snd alignment stick drills. A lot of similar swing aspects to mine. I agree. This format is awesome and I would love to watch his real progress in realistic time. What does a month of measured work look like? Two months etc. And how does he feel across that time? When does it stop feeling "stupid"?
This is SO me at the top.. then the early extension and early release. I try to go stupid flat feeling then give up saying I just need to stay with my "authentic swing".. great explanation and video as usual...
Wow what a great lesson. Exactly for me. My path was out to in trying to save with open face. I think I found that keeping the feeling of my right arm staying straight longer during the back swing forces a deeper swing causing a more in to out path. Am I onto something?
Love the live lesson so we can learn and discuss. I think Josh think golf swing is vertical swing, so no matter how much he brings the club inside he will raise his arms vertical. My solution is focus on the shaft angle and change the concept to horizontal golf swing.

Brilliant format. Enjoyed it even more. Very relevant to me as well. I suppose my fear of the arm depth is the tendency to pull/roll inside or feel like I'll tip it in response.
Thanks Kieran! Can keep the clubbed more outside hands as you get the depth if you would like :) Just less arm rotation/more hinge as you get hand path in th-cam.com/video/BJ__7npvink/w-d-xo.html
This is exactly what I do. My backswing is too long and vertical, I come down steep and stand up at the ball. I also happen to hit the ball pretty far so most people don’t think I’m a bad player but the reality is my impact is so inconsistent with a very high handle.
@@CogornoGolf Went to the range and tried to pull my club pretty shallow in the backswing definitely felt more connected. With that take away if you end up standing up at impact though the results are disastrous LOL got to trust the rotation.
Saving this video for future viewings. Quick question, when you go to the range to work on your own game or get paired with people you don't know when you get 18 in, are you able to shut off your instructor mindset when you see other swings or are you constantly breaking down their swings and shaking your head as to why they think they can propel the ball effortlessly down the fairway? I see it all the time in the gym, people doing weird/funky movements and I wonder what do they think they are accomplishing. Good on them for getting moving and not sitting on the couch but I wonder if they have defined outcomes they are trying to achieve.
Really nice lesson and great information. Tempted to go for your Website. Would be really cool to also see the result swinging so „flat“ on his impact position in face-on Camera!
This is amazing I’ve searched for a video like this for ages. I have the same problem and what’s always prevented me Changing the arm plane is the fact the club head goes so inside and I’ve struggled from getting too inside already. I would love to know your thoughts on how to get deeper but not inside on the backswing. As I see flatter swings that don’t necessarily look really inside! Hope that makes sense.
Hey Chris To keep the clubbed more outside hands you would look at 1. Arm/shoulder rotation amounts (do less) 2. Hinge (do more) These would be the variables: th-cam.com/video/1B-3OuGTcsM/w-d-xo.html
Love this! I recently saw a video of my swing, and it looked low on the backswing, making me think I needed to change it, but this helps me to feel better about it, and it’s not like I’m having trouble with it, it just looked funny to me. Question: if you’re already in that lower position, how does that affect your “recentering” and lowering of the hands before you actually turn?
Hey Michael Theres a lot to discuss there The lower you are the more OUT you need coming down and making sure chest/shoulders opening enough to get arms out
This is the closest I’ve seen to anyone having my backswing and top of swing problem. Money lesson here. Excellent content as usual.
Thank you very much!
Perfect and after 70 years of golf it's tough to change. But I will get back to scratch if it takes years!!! Thanks for the lesson.

Thanks Nick! Appreciate the kind words and support!!
About 80% of the depth comes from enough body rotation in backswing
20% comes from the arms working around the body
The hands arc in slightly (ver slightly) during takeaway and then continue in all the way to top
Key to not getting club too under plane (inside) early is not overdoing the arm rotation/flat shoulders

Great video. Just great. Thanks.
Thanks a lot Tom!
Great detailed drills to work on myself
Hope it helps Scott! Thanks for watching!
I am able to shut off :)
I have learned not everyone TRULY wants help....so I do not offer unless asked (and hired lol)
Loved this type of video
Great to hear Carl! Thanks for watching!
Good information and learning points
Thanks, Nick!
Can't wait to try this.

Fantastic video!
Thank you Maria!
Really nice lesson and great information. Tempted to go for your Website.
Would be really cool to also see the result swinging so „flat“ on his impact position in face-on Camera!
Thank you! Hope to see you in the community soon!
Seems like employing Stack & Tilt would serve Josh well. Great lesson!
Thank you Jeff!
Such great instruction. 👍
Thank you, Julie!
This is awesome. I struggle with these same issues
Hope this video helps Sean! Thank you for watching!
Excellent lesson. Want more
Thanks Richard!👊
Great stuff, Eric. Kinda my issue I've been working on for a while.
Thank you Jack! Hope it helps!
It's a great video, I have been working on this for a while. Is he saying it's okay to go underneath the shaft plane on the backswing????
This was great!
Thanks Alvin!
Very nice session
Thank you!
Hey Chris
To keep the clubbed more outside hands you would look at
1. Arm/shoulder rotation amounts (do less)
2. Hinge (do more)
These would be the variables:

@@CogornoGolf awesome thank you so much for replying. Keep up the brilliant content. 👍🏻
Awesome format Eric! Wish I could do a lesson with you live!
maybe one day! Thanks Brian
Would love it Eric!
Great video!
Thanks!
Hey Michael
Theres a lot to discuss there
The lower you are the more OUT you need coming down and making sure chest/shoulders opening enough to get arms out
@@CogornoGolf thanks Eric
