  • A year ago I removed the old mouse chewed headliner, and bought a new one from Bird Nest, a year later I finally get this thing installed!
    Welcome to Jamieson's Repair Shop!
My current retirement project is restoring a rusted out 1965 Thunderbird convertible from the inside out.
I'm taking it apart, repairing everything that needs repairing and putting it all back together.
I'm doing body work, paint removal, rust removal, metal fabrication, welding, forming, patching, and that's just the beginning!
Down the line there will be interior and engine work as well.
Come on into the shop and take a look!

Nice work. Headliners aren't easy to do right.

    Hello Alvin
I have made a few repairs to head liners over the years. Not one of them was a Tbird. The worst part of a headliner is finding a comfortable position to work in. Keep all the tools you will need within a arms reach. Keep your hands clean. In my case I never achieved any of those things.

      Hi Walter,
I agree, it's not the most comfortable job to do...and the tools are always just a little out of reach. Lol

Hey Alvin, nice job. I've yet to do one myself. I tried on Andys 65 but gave up. I get frustrated easy so I let the upholstery guy do it. Thanks.

Thanks Nick, it is a bit overwhelming that's for sure, a guy always wants to do a good job...but sometimes it just doesn't go right. I'm glad this one turned out to be pretty decent.

Hello Alvin. You did a nice job installing that headliner. My Landau has the headliner glued to a backer board with no bows that I need to do. Was it that thin yellow insulation in the sail panels originally?

      Thank you George!
Yes, that yellow insulation is the original, it was in pretty good condition so I kept it.

You didnt insulate the whole roof ?

I did the roof in sound deadener. I used a neoprene 1/8" thick deadener, it's lighter than the butyl type I will be using on the floors.

Does a 66 have bows for the headliner?

The 66 has bows, the configuration may be different in the 66 T-birds with an overhead console.

      Hello,
Just picked up a 66 T-bird manual...and I am wrong about the headliner bows, it looks like in 1966, supports and retainers were used, no mention of bows at all.
