I was just a few episodes in watching Love and Destiny when this video of your review of Love and Destiny appeared on my recommended videos. It helped me understand what was going on with the storyline. I have to say you're spot on with your review. I enjoyed this series immensely. It's a timeless classic and really the most underrated C-Drama I've ever watched. I hope that viewership numbers increase for this drama because it's a very good drama and one of the best ones I've watched.
The chemistry was so mind-blowing I started watching it just from an MV. The plot and acting was pretty solid, and the imagery so gorgeous. I’ve watched this like 3 times now.
Love and Destiny deserves more recognition. When it comes to the plot, I like the plot slightly more than TMOPB, but I think most people loves everything about TMOPB better as an entire package. Even as a dude, Love and Destiny can get people to have watery eyes in most scenes. Lol. The acting is that good. With an actor like Chang Chen by the way, you will only get very good results from him as he's a phenomenal actor. I wish it gotten more recognition. I'm the minority; I like Love and Destiny just a bit more than I do with TMOPB.
I wasn't sure about watching this series, but I'm absolutely glad I did! The leads carried it to perfection! These actors blow everyone else out of the water!
I was crying throughout the drama for Zhang Zhen's hairstyle. I was hoping for a change somewhere into the drama and the ONE time he looked good was when he went to the mortal realm and had all his hair up. This was my side drama to The Untamed and I really enjoyed it. I decided to watch mainly for Zhang Zhen and NiNi and I stayed for the side couples as well. I couldn't get enough of Si Ming and Shi San bantering. I'd have to agree with every single thing you said about their acting. Both their crying scenes broke my heart and NiNi had to cry so many difference "ways". She is absolutely amazing. I wish the drama didn't come out at the same time as The Untamed because it does deserve a little more love.
I’m so glad you watched the drama and love it! Your reaction is exactly my reaction except for maybe the actor that play JX. NiNi and Chang Cheng were explosive together. Ni Ni is such a natural that i cry with her at times and CC made me fall in love. I just wish this was more popular...it’s so underrated!
I watched Love and Destiny because of NiNi. Loved her in Rise of Phoenixes which I recommend if you have not watched yet. I simply love every comedic momemts in this show and all the subplots. Si ming and Si Shan couple is the funniest. This is the first drama I completed before your final review and I must say I agree with you 100%. Thanks for your final review. I'm now watching Arsenal Military Academy and Novoland Eagle flag and loving both too. Wondering if you are following either and hoping to see a drama review from you on both. If I have to sum up this drama in ONE word it would be BELIEVABLE. All leads and supporting actors actresses simply will make you believe all emotions that they feel or want to express. They are that good. LOVE Nini from Rise of Phoenixes. Don’t even talk about Chen Kun OMG, this guy is a phenomenal actor!
Nominated for an international Emmy, this drama is much more than your typical fantasy love story. It is a tale of good versus evil and the destined lovers caught up in it. It is told with wit and wisdom against a backdrop of magnificent sets and scenery and lovely music. (see AvenueXs' beautiful version of the theme song!) The acting, writing, directing, special effects, etc. are all top-notch! One is often encouraged to pause and reflect on the nature of "good" as opposed to "evil", and are we "fated" to a path in life? This drama is very long, and slow at times, but in the end, it was well worth my time. Ni Ni rocks and so does "Love and Destiny"!
The other weather God is another really well done character. He's ambitious, and he wants to be the new God of War. But he's not evil. He truly does respect JC, and he's right about a lot of things too. I like that he's not left out of the loop because he's bad, he's left out because he sees things as to black and white and doesn't allow for any gray areas.
EloiseInParis the supporting casts are so well written! Lord Thunder is a surprise hit for me. I didn’t like him in the first few episodes but he grew on me.
OMG, I think Love and Destiny is ONE of the BEST Chinese Drama. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE Ni Ni and most of the cast. whenever there were scenes that Ni Ni cried, I couldn't hold my tears. OMG, FABULOUS. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
JUST TODAY I FINISHED WATCHING LOVE & DESTINY. AFTERWARDS I WATCHED THE AVENUEX REVIEW [I HAD NO IDEA!!] Simply "PAR EXCELLENCE" in every aspect! I'm a Chinese Costume Drama newbie, yet I applaud the superb acting, fabulous storyline, wonderful wardrobe, awesome visuals, scenery, and cinematography. It is readily apparent that CHANG CHEN (Jiuchen) and Ni Ni (Ling Xi) are extremely talented and seasoned actors. Such dynamic chemistry! I'd love to see this pair in a sequel to Love & Destiny and/or other productions. BRAVO to the casting crew who selected Chang Chen and Ni Ni for the lead roles. Additionally, all supporting role actors/actresses were on-point. I loved the pace and flow of this story and could even have watched another 10 episodes to build out Jiuchen's return, his reunion with Ling Xi, and their family. This production continually pulled on my emotional heart strings...and I absolutely loved the LAUGH-OUT-LOUD scripting. The screen writer(s) definitely knew how to balance the "joy and pain" of this movie. Me wanting more is truly an indication of a superb production. I stumbled upon Chinese Costume Drama productions just 2 months ago...and I'm now HOOKED! Most of my friends and coworkers have never even heard of this genre of TV/media/theater, but now many are on the band wagon with me. I believe there's an untapped market in the U.S. I'm sure Chang Chen, Ni Ni and the many other Chinese performers are well known in China, but my goodness there's a U.S. market that I believe would be committed viewers once they get a taste of performers such as Chang Chen and Ni Ni and a production such as Love & Destiny!!!
I am so glad you feel the same way about Jiu Chen’s hair style. It bugged me so much because the no volume hair-do does NOT flatter him at all. He would have looked so much better with just a bit of volume with his hair. 🙄
The writing in this drama is several cuts above that of your typical drama. It often, with the more intelligent Gods, presents pearls of wisdom and many interesting philosophical questions. Even the lesser Gods often sound quite profound.
Agree with everything you said! The hair styling was not appealing, and I also found some episodes to be a bit draggy. (Especially in the middle, when it took lin mo forever to eat the damn peach haha). BUT OMG the acting was AMAZING. Zhang zhen is definitely one of my favorite Chinese actors now. He conveys so much emotion simply with his eyes alone. And Nini did an impressive job with the 3 characters in her 3 lives. Her crying scenes made me so emotional. (Loved how professional she was with sign language). The soundtrack is beautiful, super catchy and fitting. Can't recommend this drama enough, imo better than TMOPB, pls watch it everyone! 力推👍
Lol, oh yes about the peach. I breathed out a sigh of relief when she finally ate it! But I wish the scriptwriters could have devoted a few more scenes to her happiness at discovering sounds and not dive into love comedy so quickly
Highly recommend this drama and definitely is a must-watch. The first and only Chinese Drama that I watched the 2nd time immediately after finished. Both leading the actor and actress are award-winning top-notch! The setting is even more breath-taking than 10 miles Of Peach Blossom.
Talking about voice acting, I really loved the voice of Shi San. I watched some of their BTS and I think they had the same actress to dub over herself. It's very unique.
Shina yeah true I also saw the BTS and I was like hey this is her real voice. Maybe bc she speaks the suitable/ ideal mandarin that Chinese mandarin are comfortable with? So no need to change ? Cause we know Chang Chen is Taiwanese and one of the BTS I saw Shi San corrected him his prononciation. But indeed she has an unique voice I like it!
I loved your review. I followed NiNi to this project after both watching “Eternal Love/TMOPB”. And Rise of the Phoenixes. I haven’t finished the series yet, mostly because I am ahead of the translators and I have to translate every single clip with google translate. Time consuming. I do love these characters and I love these actors. Both are very good actors. NiNi can make me cry every single time she cries and Chang Chen plays the older first time in love very very well. I think his parts were my favorite because his character made such a huge change from high and mighty God of war to falling in love with NiNi’s character. I didnt have a problem with the details of wardrobe at all..... Can we have a conversation about his kissing scenes?!! I think dramas have gotten better with this and yes, he plays his part well.
It's really nice to watch your detailed report about this drama. Both of Leads really Amazing, they're really natural. About Rise of the Phonenixes, the series is really serious and though but the same case ... Both Leads seriously Amazing ... Ni Ni, Cheng Kun, Chang Chen had the same power to balance theit acting each other. That talent are so special not many actor and actress can do the same thing.
Chen Xi Yuan is one of my favorite dramas. It is definitely a top tier drama. The acting, themes, sets, directing, and the story are all very well done. I cannot say enough about the acting. Chang Chen is incredible and I was very impressed with Ni Ni. The character design makes it possible to sympathize and understand their actions and decisions. The plot (for the vast majority of it at least) is right and logical. I just love this drama and Jiu Chen so much. I can only pray that Chang Chen finds another excellent drama script he would be willing to be part of 🙏🙏
I completely agree with all your points. Zhang Zhen and Ni Ni were spectacular and I loved their chemistry in this drama. Ni Ni is so natural and Zhang Zhen is so dreamy.....I lost it every time he grinned or smirked 😍😍 The voice actor was brilliant...I honestly thought Zhang Zhen was using his own voice in the drama but the studio somehow cleaned up his accent. 🤣🤣 Each character's storyline was really well written and acted. Le Bo, Yun Feng, Shi San and Si Ming were hilarious. Qing Yao and Jing Xiu were badasses. Hua Yan surprised me. Wu Wan was too darn cute. I also really liked how Jiu Chen got his first disciple. 🤣🤣 I wished though they showed what happened to Lin Mo's family after she died, like a scene with Si Ming being forced to look at the Dad's fate. It is not believable to me Ling Xi would just forget about her mortal family when she returned as a High Goddess. Maybe I didn't pay attention enough but I also don't understand how Ling Xi got out of Fu Ling Yuan and how Jiu Chen came back from the Demon Realm. I'm not ready to move on from this drama...haven't liked a drama this much since NIF and TMOPB 💕💕

@@lihunghan6458 Maybe after Ling Xi sealed the portal there's less evil chi to keep her in? Her birth mother also escaped previously. So perhaps difficult to escape but not impossible? Maybe similar with Jiu Chen - defeated / worn down Jing Xiu the new Demon King, so able to leave?
My favorite cute moment was when he met with the female lead’s mortal father. A god of war with thousands at his command and able to demolish the entire village in a matter of minutes - reduced to a nervous wreck anxiously trying to impress his future father-in-law. 😂 ❤️
Yes, yes, it’s perfect! I’m so glad I decided to watch this drama despite seeing photos and such in the last few months. The CP acting are top notch and the chemistry is what made this drama. I find God of War hairstyle is fine, he just grows on you and made you giggle, yes, giggle throughout. I find the first & third lifetime are most enjoyable with Ling Xi. The second lifetime of MoMo I could live without, though God of War is being jelly and trying to win the girl is cute too.
I finally ended up watching this... And im so very much enjoying this drama. I'm only up to episode 8, but The chemistry between the two leads is palpable and so much fun to watch. Thank you so much for rec this to us.
i don't mind the changes in lighting, they weren't very drastic anyway. besides, we're here for your awesome commentary and we know you're not filming with a crew/studio or anything so it's ok! what's holding me back from watching this drama, is like what you said, it doesn't bring anything new to the table. like if i wanted to watch something like ten miles, then why don't i just rewatch ten miles? it takes a lot of energy to get into a show that has a lot of episodes. but your comment on how cutely the main guy falls in love made me wanna watch it a bit cause im a sucker for a mature, newfound love type of characters...i need to get over cql first though. i got waayyy into it that if i start a new drama, i wouldnt be giving it a fair chance
I so agree with the elements you said about Love and Destiny. I’m still binging it and come across this review. I have to say the styling of the guys should be better. But I’m so glad you mentioned about the acting and the better written script. I think these two elements are so important yet a lot of mainstream Chinese dramas are missing these days. We either have bad script or bad acting or both. Anyway, I didn’t watch ten miles peach blossom but coming into this drama because of the two main actors and didn’t regret watching it. Really like the support casts especially Shi San and Si Ming. Can’t stop laughing or smiling on their scenes.
I love this drama too, the lead couple are so charismatic and have such amazing chemistry. Love 13/Stone as well, she is a riot to watch, and Si Ming helplessly gets dragged along.
Just finished binge watch this because of Coronavirus quarantine in the entire nation, really glad I gave it a try! It’s one of those dramas that grow better in time!

About Chang Chen,some people are saying he is old,not handsome..bla bla..to those people,are you blind??!! He is the most perfect choice for this role.He has a mature vibe❤️. I don’t know why people is creating negative hype about his older look.It’s simple.He just fits with the character perfectly.God of war is portrayed as someone moody,less communicative who is holding a powerful position for a very long time,and radiating strong masculine aura.God of war is a kind of person who doesn't express his love by saying cheesy things to his loved one.He shows his affection by his deeds,by his sacrifices,and Ling Xi is totally ok with that. this role finely suits Chang Chen.Now I can't think of any other person but Chang Chen as GoW,reminds me of Mo Yuan whom I liked more than Ye Hua..I think it would have been funny if some cute,babylike young guy played this role.And normally I can't stand young cute baby like guys..In the drama it is mentioned that GoW is a grown man,has been protecting the realm for several tens of thousands of years, secluded from wordly affections,that explains his cold behaviour,then where is the problem??.So in my opinion,Chang Chen is perfect as GoW. And their chemistry is totally fine also.Without saying cheesy words,they had built up a strong chemistry.I liked this drama especially for Chang Chen’s acting and his personality..I liked him as GoW from his very first appearance in the drama

I like NiNi because of her movie Suddenly Seventeen so I was tempted to give it a try. But hesitated big time when I saw the male lead. Tbh, I was put off by the very things you mentioned, especially the men's hairstyles. I didn't know what bothered me about their hair until you mentioned that "comb" style. I was like, that's it! However, if I had judged Ten Miles the same way, I would've missed that gem. So given your positive review of the other points, such a great writing and MLs acting etc, I am willing to give this one a try again. Thank you for your thorough review!

Omg I found this one so much better than 10 Miles. I legitimately am in love with Zhang Zhen now. He's so so SO charismatic and amazing in motion. I literally rewatched that one first kiss in the 2nd life SO many times... I ranted to like EVERYONE that the thirst is real. He's such a good actor. (And NiNi, but idk...I was wowed and amazed by her, but even more completely blown away by ZZ).

But I'm already watching your videos since last year because of ten miles of peach blossoms.Like many viewers, I was first skeptical of Love and Destiny but after watching three episodes, I fell in love with this drama. The characters are greatly portrayed by the actors especially by the leads. Now, I cannot imagine any actor portraying Jiu Chen by Chang Chen. His commanding presence, his calmness, a brilliant strategist but has a loving nature that he only displayed for Ling Xi. Nini is also great in portraying her character in three roles. Beautiful,innocent playful fairy who is a solid fangirl of god of war then as a kind, deaf mute and virtuous human A'mo then finally transforming into a regal, royal queen of Shang Ling Tribe but somehow you can still see her childish attitude and deep affection to Jiu Chen. All I can say is kudos to the production team.
You are absolutely correct about those very fair comments! The males’ hairstyles!! Everything is flat and make all looked older than they actually are! The Male lead could have looked much much better than this flat and little hair line on the top! Chang Chen has the style and good looks but in this design it adds age to his actual looks. See how he looked in “Savage” 需暴 he is almost like NiNi’s age circle.

Literally the first mandarin drama I have completed that I can remember, I'm mostly a western or japanese or korean drama fan, but I can honestly say in a way this is my favourite piece of art in it's own way shape and form. The Buddhist themes of reincarnation and the equilibrium of the universe and karmic balance of the universe truely resonate with me. Everyone's soul would benefit from taking the lessons of this drama to heart, taking everything into account not particularly literally, but more intrinsically, intuitively with one's gut feeling and openmindedness. Thank you universe for sending us this drama. It may be useful to those who have never openmindedly dove into eastern spiritual religion or even those who haven't independantly taken the lessons of the western bible to heart, it just takes a bit more English academic analysis of the equilibrium of light and dark to interpret the bible to see the eastern lessons of balance within it. Thank you universe thank you!

I watched LAD originally thinking I was going to see Mark Chao look a like and I was surprise I did not see it. However, CC has grown on me and despite of his bad hair do and weird costume I fell in love.... As for NiNi, dig the girl! Their chemistry is awesome here and can't wait to see their movie Savage...

OMG finally!!! L&D is the best fantasy drama ever!!! This drama is wayyyyyyyy better than TMOPB. Superb acting by both leads. NiNi's acting is far superior to Yang Mi.

Fanally watched this drama, placed this on my to watch list due to Zhang Zhen, and I like it very much. I like the small storielines and details that made this whole story especially the deaf monster and episode 58 when Jiuchen decided the big act - made me remember why I like watching this type of drama. I have never made it all the way through this drama (always give up at the point where she gets basically banished to the ice palace) but this video has convinced me to try again!
Great review. I agree with u in all and thank for your info about dubbing actor. I actually thought that is Zhang chen voice. Just one thing I wish you had mentioned is about the ost - theme songs. I think this film has a even better collection of songs comparing to Ten miles. Chilling is still my fav ost but the Love and destiny theme songs are like on another level.
AvenueX so far I watched 3 videos of you regarding to L&D but I cant recall if any of them mentioned about OST. But I know you must have loved the soundtrack very much because you performed the song It’s fate urself (very beautiful I enjoyed it)
I really enjoyed all the music/songs used in the show. Every piece is so romantic! The story and actors are so so to me, but the set is beautiful, and the CGI very tastefully done.
Wow. Lovely outfits. I did drop the drama just because I felt it would just be "another story like that". Turning out it's quite true. But yeah it can't be denied that this is a well done product.
Thank you for reviewing this drama. I started watching it and was really beginning to like it. Then I got about 10 episodes in and the English subtitles stopped. So that put an end to watching. Now, having seen your review, I will look for it again. You are correct that the styling for the male characters is ... weird ... unfortunate ... but I was still enjoying it. These drama's and the stories they tell are all new to me and it is wondrous the completely different view of the world, life and love they show me.
I start this drama through Nini as I love her acting at the rise of pheonix. But when I start watch this drama I straight away fall in love with their acting and storyline. Although the rating is not high compare to TMOPB but to me this drama is the best drama i've watch. Credit to lead actors now it become my all time fav chinese drama. I wish people will appreciate this drama as much as I do. ❤❤
I watched/ and rewatched scenes in this 60 episode drama and it did not feel long to me while bingeing it, I really loved this one and the ML is amazing...
I love your review, totally spot on! I watched this drama recently bc I was attracted by the leads (never seen them before) and they were... wow, perfect. I now have a big crush on both of them. And this is my favorite xianxia so far... miles away better, imo, from TMOPB (didn't like that one, tbh). True, the styling on Zhang Zhen was meh but he still managed to look handsome... his sex appeal is 😍😍
The biggest problem I have is the ending. It seems rushed. Her pregnancy needs more detail, and how the heck did he get out of fulingyuan? I agree about the mens styling and hair. The mens outfits were a little too feminine with the obi. I loved the whole thing overall though. I have really fallen in love with several Chinese movies. Don't get me started on the Untamed.
I am halfway on Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms. This is my first ‘modern’ drama, meaning, I grew up watching 90’s drama so the cgi was something to get used to! LOL But I am obsessed and dreading ending it, it is such a beautiful drama. Then I saw this video notification, I have to check out Love and Destiny. Ps, I’d love some recommendations! I already have Ashes of Love on queue.
The comedic writing was hilarious. I'm still laughing at the line, "He has a head like a buck deer and the eyes of a rat!" Hilarious. Also, I loved the lead male. Jin Chen's demeanor is HOT, right? He was manly throughout the series. However, the other male actors in this film seemed really feminine. Maybe it was the make-up and attire. AND that's just my superficial opinion. You're right about the costumes. Jin Chen could have looked better, but I was able to look past the appearance. Oh, I'll add that this male lead didn't cry as much as Ye Hua, in Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms, and makes Dong Hua appear weak by comparison now. Example: If Jin Chen says, "no," I will believe him. If Dong Hua says, "no," I'd laugh. Initially, I didn't think I was going to like the storyline because of the many similar storylines, but I did. It was unique in its own rights. So I was right - it wasn't NiNi's voice. Relieved as well as disappointed that they didn't use NiNi's own voice. Almost didn't continue watching the drama because of the dubbing. Kind of like how you feel about the male characters' styling. 😅 I came into this for NiNi after loving 天盛長歌 - 1st C-Drama I've ever watched. I thought that CP was unsurpassable & wasn't enthused by this CP. But this slow burner definitely grew on me. Now I love this NiNi CP as much as 天盛長歌's NiNi CP.
I am in love with this drama. My problem is I can't find English subs for most episodes so I haven't finished it as yet. I actually think this drama is better than 10 miles. The plot is more developed, the CGI was better, and the fight scenes are better.
@@joshuasafwattaylor You need to go beyond. she sacrifices one of her senses for him. it is a long term commitment in watching this show and the drama gets better and better and the mortal realm , you will see her grow and her conversion to a goddess and him finally chasing her for her love. She is definitely stronger. She takes over in mortal realm.
I agree! When I watched ten miles, I had to keep skipping cause it was so boring and over dramatic at parts, but when watching this, it's so much better scripted
This was way better than the average C- drama when it came to visuals, acting and character development, esp with Jing Xiu. Best "villain" I've seen in awhile.
I watched I think 1 or 2 episodes a while before the Untamed and dropped it because I didn't want to watch another drama with a ditzy female lead. Also, the styling of the lead role man, noo makes me think he's like my Dad since they all have that Jackie Chan nose and eyes LOL. But since I trust your review, I will give it another shot. I must say, I enjoy your videos AvenueX. Keep it up, you look great in period clothes, those 2 hours weren't in vain!

It is very good drama. The love story is very well written. The characters progression is logically developed. Excellent acting of the actors and actresses. Specially the leading actor, I fell in love his acting as each episode goes on. His eyes, face expression are so good and well play each scene. I watch this drama again without English subtitles just because to focus more his acting ( reading subtitle distracted me).

Just finished watching this and I’m regretting not picking it up earlier. I admit I didn’t like Zhang Zhen at first (I got too used to idol faces) but his acting completely won me over (shame about his hairstyling though, I had to get used to it but he looked better with all of his hair up). I agree, they did the males so bad but I like their acting so I overlooked that. This was so similar to TMOPB but I like this one more, the supporting cast is so lovable as much as the main couple. It was so fun zeroing in on all the actor’s faces and moves. And I really really like Jing Xiu(‘s bald head), his bald head is my happy pill. I find myself comparing the main couple with Fengjiu and Dong Hua sometimes, since I feel they share some similarities, I can’t help but think the pillow book could’ve been like this.
This drama has too many political plots and was very confusing for me, because Mandarin is not my first language. I had to replay and reread the subtitle so many times. Even though Netflix did a very good sub but I just gave up. I need more romance 😅
After finishing the drama, I feel the same way about the length of this series. A bit too long... draggy at some point or toward the end. I love all the actors and actresses in this drama but I don’t think the storyline in general is memorable (there is nothing new to me) but I do like each individual story line and character developments and the acting was one of the main reason that get me going and finishing it :) Because of my preference I avoided Ten Miles Peach Blossom when I saw Yangmi as the lead. 😜 but got into this because I know CC and NiNi are good. Actually it was refreshing to have them as a couple in this drama. My favorite recalled moment is the period when Lingxi incarnated in the mortal realm. I felt bad for Jingxiu tho not because he didn’t get to live happily with the girl but for his life as a whole. He is a very smart and clever person that’s why even the part he ru mo was pretty interesting to me. I really think the stylist team did injustice to Chang Chen. If they have done a better job. The couple won’t look that off. They just made him look old with that style, haiz... I don’t understand the final arc or the idea that JiuChen went to take care of the gate by himself, lol why can’t people help him. There are so many gods there, more people are better isn’t it? Unless I missed something since my Chinese is limited and I watched it without Eng sub. Btw I love your costume and everything :)
@@Bodiso Sorry for the late reply. It's such a hard question cuz I will have to rewatch it lol. But I would suggest to continue because her time in the moral realm is pretty meaningful to watch. I don't want to give you spoiler so just want to let you know ep. 50 will be the end of the process. In my opinion the drama should end by defeated Jingxiu (of course lol the demon lord should disappeared by then) ends at ep. 56 or 57 :) but everyone has their own opinion so if you want just pick it up again at least for her experiences in the moral realm.

I was just a few episodes in watching Love and Destiny when this video of your review of Love and Destiny appeared on my recommended videos. It helped me understand what was going on with the storyline. I have to say you're spot on with your review. I enjoyed this series immensely. It's a timeless classic and really the most underrated C-Drama I've ever watched. I hope that viewership numbers increase for this drama because it's a very good drama and one of the best ones I've watched.

The chemistry was so mind-blowing I started watching it just from an MV. The plot and acting was pretty solid, and the imagery so gorgeous. I’ve watched this like 3 times now.
Love and Destiny deserves more recognition. When it comes to the plot, I like the plot slightly more than TMOPB, but I think most people loves everything about TMOPB better as an entire package. Even as a dude, Love and Destiny can get people to have watery eyes in most scenes. Lol. The acting is that good. With an actor like Chang Chen by the way, you will only get very good results from him as he's a phenomenal actor. I wish it gotten more recognition. I'm the minority; I like Love and Destiny just a bit more than I do with TMOPB.
I personally like TMOPB. I don't think any other drama has and will make me feel so immersed with so much emotion as TMOPB

I was crying throughout the drama for Zhang Zhen's hairstyle. I was hoping for a change somewhere into the drama and the ONE time he looked good was when he went to the mortal realm and had all his hair up.
This was my side drama to The Untamed and I really enjoyed it. I decided to watch mainly for Zhang Zhen and NiNi and I stayed for the side couples as well. I couldn't get enough of Si Ming and Shi San bantering.
I'd have to agree with every single thing you said about their acting. Both their crying scenes broke my heart and NiNi had to cry so many difference "ways". She is absolutely amazing.
I wish the drama didn't come out at the same time as The Untamed because it does deserve a little more love.

I watched Love and Destiny because of NiNi. Loved her in Rise of Phoenixes which I recommend if you have not watched yet. I simply love every comedic momemts in this show and all the subplots. If I have to sum up this drama in ONE word it would be BELIEVABLE. All leads and supporting actors actresses simply will make you believe all emotions that they feel or want to express. They are that good. LOVE Nini from Rise of
Phoenixes. Don’t even talk about Chen Kun OMG, this guy is a phenomenal actor!
Nominated for an international Emmy, this drama is much more than your typical fantasy love story. It is a tale of good versus evil and the destined lovers caught up in it. It is told with wit and wisdom against a backdrop of magnificent sets and scenery and lovely music. (see AvenueXs' beautiful version of the theme song!) The acting, writing, directing, special effects, etc. are all top-notch! One is often encouraged to pause and reflect on the nature of "good" as opposed to "evil", and are we "fated" to a path in life? This drama is very long, and slow at times, but in the end, it was well worth my time. Ni Ni rocks and so does "Love and Destiny"!

The other weather God is another really well done character. He's ambitious, and he wants to be the new God of War. But he's not evil. He truly does respect JC, and he's right about a lot of things too. I like that he's not left out of the loop because he's bad, he's left out because he sees things as to black and white and doesn't allow for any gray areas.
EloiseInParis the supporting casts are so well written! Lord Thunder is a surprise hit for me. I didn’t like him in the first few episodes but he grew on me.
Also, he was hands down the funniest character.

Simply "PAR EXCELLENCE" in every aspect! I'm a Chinese Costume Drama newbie, yet I applaud the superb acting, fabulous storyline, wonderful wardrobe, awesome visuals, scenery, and cinematography. It is readily apparent that CHANG CHEN (Jiuchen) and Ni Ni (Ling Xi) are extremely talented and seasoned actors. Such dynamic chemistry! I'd love to see this pair in a sequel to Love & Destiny and/or other productions. BRAVO to the casting crew who selected Chang Chen and Ni Ni for the lead roles.
Additionally, all supporting role actors/actresses were on-point.
I loved the pace and flow of this story and could even have watched another 10 episodes to build out Jiuchen's return, his reunion with Ling Xi, and their family. This production continually pulled on my emotional heart strings...and I absolutely loved the LAUGH-OUT-LOUD scripting. The screen writer(s) definitely knew how to balance the "joy and pain" of this movie. Me wanting more is truly an indication of a superb production.
I stumbled upon Chinese Costume Drama productions just 2 months ago...and I'm now HOOKED! Most of my friends and coworkers have never even heard of this genre of TV/media/theater, but now many are on the band wagon with me. I believe there's an untapped market in the U.S. I'm sure Chang Chen, Ni Ni and the many other Chinese performers are well known in China, but my goodness there's a U.S. market that I believe would be committed viewers once they get a taste of performers such as Chang Chen and Ni Ni and a production such as Love & Destiny!!!

The writing in this drama is several cuts above that of your typical drama. It often, with the more intelligent Gods, presents pearls of wisdom and many interesting philosophical questions. Even the lesser Gods often sound quite profound.
Agree with everything you said! The hair styling was not appealing, and I also found some episodes to be a bit draggy. (Especially in the middle, when it took lin mo forever to eat the damn peach haha). BUT OMG the acting was AMAZING. Zhang zhen is definitely one of my favorite Chinese actors now. He conveys so much emotion simply with his eyes alone. And Nini did an impressive job with the 3 characters in her 3 lives. Her crying scenes made me so emotional. (Loved how professional she was with sign language). The soundtrack is beautiful, super catchy and fitting. Can't recommend this drama enough, imo better than TMOPB, pls watch it everyone! 力推👍
Lol, oh yes about the peach. I breathed out a sigh of relief when she finally ate it! But I wish the scriptwriters could have devoted a few more scenes to her happiness at discovering sounds and not dive into love comedy so quickly

Highly recommend this drama and definitely is a must-watch. The first and only Chinese Drama that I watched the 2nd time immediately after finished. Both leading the actor and actress are award-winning top-notch! The setting is even more breath-taking than 10 miles Of Peach Blossom.
Talking about voice acting, I really loved the voice of Shi San. I watched some of their BTS and I think they had the same actress to dub over herself. It's very unique.
Shina yeah true I also saw the BTS and I was like hey this is her real voice. Maybe bc she speaks the suitable/ ideal mandarin that Chinese mandarin are comfortable with? So no need to change ? Cause we know Chang Chen is Taiwanese and one of the BTS I saw Shi San corrected him his prononciation. But indeed she has an unique voice I like it!
I loved your review. I followed NiNi to this project after both watching “Eternal Love/TMOPB”. And Rise of the Phoenixes. I haven’t finished the series yet, mostly because I am ahead of the translators and I have to translate every single clip with google translate. Time consuming. I do love these characters and I love these actors. Both are very good actors. NiNi can make me cry every single time she cries and Chang Chen plays the older first time in love very very well. I think his parts were my favorite because his character made such a huge change from high and mighty God of war to falling in love with NiNi’s character.
I didnt have a problem with the details of wardrobe at all.....
Can we have a conversation about his kissing scenes?!! I think dramas have gotten better with this and yes, he plays his part well.
It's really nice to watch your detailed report about this drama. Both of Leads really Amazing, they're really natural. About Rise of the Phonenixes, the series is really serious and though but the same case ... Both Leads seriously Amazing ... Ni Ni, Cheng Kun, Chang Chen had the same power to balance theit acting each other. That talent are so special not many actor and actress can do the same thing.
Chen Xi Yuan is one of my favorite dramas. It is definitely a top tier drama. The acting, themes, sets, directing, and the story are all very well done. I cannot say enough about the acting. Chang Chen is incredible and I was very impressed with Ni Ni. The character design makes it possible to sympathize and understand their actions and decisions. The plot (for the vast majority of it at least) is right and logical. I just love this drama and Jiu Chen so much. I can only pray that Chang Chen finds another excellent drama script he would be willing to be part of 🙏🙏
I completely agree with all your points. Zhang Zhen and Ni Ni were spectacular and I loved their chemistry in this drama. Ni Ni is so natural and Zhang Zhen is so dreamy.....I lost it every time he grinned or smirked 😍😍 The voice actor was brilliant...I honestly thought Zhang Zhen was using his own voice in the drama but the studio somehow cleaned up his accent. 🤣🤣 Each character's storyline was really well written and acted. Le Bo, Yun Feng, Shi San and Si Ming were hilarious. Qing Yao and Jing Xiu were badasses. Hua Yan surprised me. Wu Wan was too darn cute. I also really liked how Jiu Chen got his first disciple. 🤣🤣 I wished though they showed what happened to Lin Mo's family after she died, like a scene with Si Ming being forced to look at the Dad's fate. It is not believable to me Ling Xi would just forget about her mortal family when she returned as a High Goddess. Maybe I didn't pay attention enough but I also don't understand how Ling Xi got out of Fu Ling Yuan and how Jiu Chen came back from the Demon Realm. I'm not ready to move on from this drama...haven't liked a drama this much since NIF and TMOPB 💕💕

@@lihunghan6458 Maybe after Ling Xi sealed the portal there's less evil chi to keep her in? Her birth mother also escaped previously. So perhaps difficult to escape but not impossible? Maybe similar with Jiu Chen - defeated / worn down Jing Xiu the new Demon King, so able to leave?
My favorite cute moment was when he met with the female lead’s mortal father. A god of war with thousands at his command and able to demolish the entire village in a matter of minutes - reduced to a nervous wreck anxiously trying to impress his future father-in-law. 😂 ❤️
Yes, yes, it’s perfect! I’m so glad I decided to watch this drama despite seeing photos and such in the last few months. The CP acting are top notch and the chemistry is what made this drama. I find God of War hairstyle is fine, he just grows on you and made you giggle, yes, giggle throughout. I find the first & third lifetime are most enjoyable with Ling Xi. The second lifetime of MoMo I could live without, though God of War is being jelly and trying to win the girl is cute too.
I finally ended up watching this... And im so very much enjoying this drama. I'm only up to episode 8, but The chemistry between the two leads is palpable and so much fun to watch.

what's holding me back from watching this drama, is like what you said, it doesn't bring anything new to the table. like if i wanted to watch something like ten miles, then why don't i just rewatch ten miles? it takes a lot of energy to get into a show that has a lot of episodes. but your comment on how cutely the main guy falls in love made me wanna watch it a bit cause im a sucker for a mature, newfound love type of characters...i need to get over cql first though. i got waayyy into it that if i start a new drama, i wouldnt be giving it a fair chance
I so agree with the elements you said about Love and Destiny. I’m still binging it and come across this review. I have to say the styling of the guys should be better. But I’m so glad you mentioned about the acting and the better written script. I think these two elements are so important yet a lot of mainstream Chinese dramas are missing these days. We either have bad script or bad acting or both. Anyway, I didn’t watch ten miles peach blossom but coming into this drama because of the two main actors and didn’t regret watching it. Really like the support casts especially Shi San and Si Ming. Can’t stop laughing or smiling on their scenes.
I love this drama too, the lead couple are so charismatic and have such amazing chemistry. Love 13/Stone as well, she is a riot to watch, and Si Ming helplessly gets dragged along.

About Chang Chen,some people are saying he is old,not handsome..bla bla..to those people,are you blind??!! He is the most perfect choice for this role.He has a mature vibe❤️. I don’t know why people is creating negative hype about his older look.It’s simple.He just fits with the character perfectly.God of war is portrayed as someone moody,less communicative who is holding a powerful position for a very long time,and radiating strong masculine aura.God of war is a kind of person who doesn't express his love by saying cheesy things to his loved one.He shows his affection by his deeds,by his sacrifices,and Ling Xi is totally ok with that. this role finely suits Chang Chen.Now I can't think of any other person but Chang Chen as GoW,reminds me of Mo Yuan whom I liked more than Ye Hua..I think it would have been funny if some cute,babylike young guy played this role.And normally I can't stand young cute baby like guys..In the drama it is mentioned that GoW is a grown man,has been protecting the realm for several tens of thousands of years, secluded from wordly affections,that explains his cold behaviour,then where is the problem??.So in my opinion,Chang Chen is perfect as GoW. I like NiNi because of her movie Suddenly Seventeen so I was tempted to give it a try. But hesitated big time when I saw the male lead. Tbh, I was put off by the very things you mentioned, especially the men's hairstyles. I didn't know what bothered me about their hair until you mentioned that "comb" style. I was like, that's it! However, if I had judged Ten Miles the same way, I would've missed that gem. Omg I found this one so much better than 10 Miles. I legitimately am in love with Zhang Zhen now. He's so so SO charismatic and amazing in motion. I literally rewatched that one first kiss in the 2nd life SO many times... I ranted to like EVERYONE that the thirst is real. He's such a good actor. (And NiNi, but idk...I was wowed and amazed by her, but even more completely blown away by ZZ).

The characters are greatly portrayed by the actors especially by the leads. Now, I cannot imagine any actor portraying Jiu Chen by Chang Chen. His commanding presence, his calmness, a brilliant strategist but has a loving nature that he only displayed for Ling Xi. Nini is also great in portraying her character in three roles. You are absolutely correct about those very fair comments! The males’ hairstyles!! Everything is flat and make all looked older than they actually are! The Male lead could have looked much much better than this flat and little hair line on the top! Chang Chen has the style and good looks but in this design it adds age to his actual looks. See how he looked in “Savage” 需暴 he is almost like NiNi’s age circle.

Literally the first mandarin drama I have completed that I can remember, I'm mostly a western or japanese or korean drama fan, but I can honestly say in a way this is my favourite piece of art in it's own way shape and form. The Buddhist themes of reincarnation and the equilibrium of the universe and karmic balance of the universe truely resonate with me. Everyone's soul would benefit from taking the lessons of this drama to heart, taking everything into account not particularly literally, but more intrinsically, intuitively with one's gut feeling and openmindedness. Thank you universe for sending us this drama. It may be useful to those who have never openmindedly dove into eastern spiritual religion or even those who haven't independantly taken the lessons of the western bible to heart, it just takes a bit more English academic analysis of the equilibrium of light and dark to interpret the bible to see the eastern lessons of balance within it. I watched LAD originally thinking I was going to see Mark Chao look a like and I was surprise I did not see it. However, CC has grown on me and despite of his bad hair do and weird costume I fell in love.... As for NiNi, dig the girl! Their chemistry is awesome here and can't wait to see their movie Savage...

Fanally watched this drama, placed this on my to watch list due to Zhang Zhen, and I like it very much. I like the small storielines and details that made this whole story especially the deaf monster and episode 58 when Jiuchen decided the big act - made me remember why I like watching this type of drama. Great review. I agree with u in all and thank for your info about dubbing actor. I actually thought that is Zhang chen voice. Just one thing I wish you had mentioned is about the ost - theme songs. I think this film has a even better collection of songs comparing to Ten miles. Chilling is still my fav ost but the Love and destiny theme songs are like on another level.

I really enjoyed all the music/songs used in the show. Every piece is so romantic! The story and actors are so so to me, but the set is beautiful, and the CGI very tastefully done.

Thank you for reviewing this drama. I started watching it and was really beginning to like it. Then I got about 10 episodes in and the English subtitles stopped. So that put an end to watching. Now, having seen your review, I will look for it again. You are correct that the styling for the male characters is ... weird ... unfortunate ... but I was still enjoying it. These drama's and the stories they tell are all new to me and it is wondrous the completely different view of the world, life and love they show me.

I start this drama through Nini as I love her acting at the rise of pheonix. But when I start watch this drama I straight away fall in love with their acting and storyline. Although the rating is not high compare to TMOPB but to me this drama is the best drama i've watch. Credit to lead actors now it become my all time fav chinese drama. I wish people will appreciate this drama as much as I do. ❤❤
I watched/ and rewatched scenes in this 60 episode drama and it did not feel long to me while bingeing it, I really loved this one and the ML is amazing...

And this is my favorite xianxia so far... miles away better, imo, from TMOPB (didn't like that one, tbh). True, the styling on Zhang Zhen was meh but he still managed to look handsome... his sex appeal is 😍😍

The biggest problem I have is the ending. It seems rushed. Her pregnancy needs more detail, and how the heck did he get out of fulingyuan? I agree about the mens styling and hair. The mens outfits were a little too feminine with the obi. I loved the whole thing overall though. I have really fallen in love with several Chinese movies. Don't get me started on the Untamed.

I am halfway on Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms. This is my first ‘modern’ drama, meaning, I grew up watching 90’s drama so the cgi was something to get used to! LOL But I am obsessed and dreading ending it, it is such a beautiful drama. Then I saw this video notification, I have to check out Love and Destiny. Ps, I’d love some recommendations! I already have Ashes of Love on queue.

The comedic writing was hilarious. I'm still laughing at the line, "He has a head like a buck deer and the eyes of a rat!" Hilarious. Also, I loved the lead male. Jin Chen's demeanor is HOT, right? He was manly throughout the series. However, the other male actors in this film seemed really feminine. Maybe it was the make-up and attire. AND that's just my superficial opinion. You're right about the costumes. Jin Chen could have looked better, but I was able to look past the appearance. Oh, I'll add that this male lead didn't cry as much as Ye Hua, in Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms, and makes Dong Hua appear weak by comparison now. Example: If Jin Chen says, "no," I will believe him. If Dong Hua says, "no," I'd laugh. Initially, I didn't think I was going to like the storyline because of the many similar storylines, but I did. It was unique in its own rights.

So I was right - it wasn't NiNi's voice. Relieved as well as disappointed that they didn't use NiNi's own voice. Almost didn't continue watching the drama because of the dubbing. Kind of like how you feel about the male characters' styling. 😅
I came into this for NiNi after loving 天盛長歌 - 1st C-Drama I've ever watched. I thought that CP was unsurpassable & wasn't enthused by this CP. But this slow burner definitely grew on me. Now I love this NiNi CP as much as 天盛長歌's NiNi CP.
I thought they said Love And Destiny was supposed to be Mo Yuan's story. Which is the third story in Ten Miles Of Peach Blossoms universe.
I don't think so because it has no connection with the author of the original saga. But maybe the script was developed from the ideas.

I am in love with this drama. My problem is I can't find English subs for most episodes so I haven't finished it as yet. I actually think this drama is better than 10 miles. The plot is more developed, the CGI was better, and the fight scenes are better.
I disagree im on episode 15 and the female lead hasnt contributed anything to the drama. She's just there
@@joshuasafwattaylor You need to go beyond. she sacrifices one of her senses for him. it is a long term commitment in watching this show and the drama gets better and better and the mortal realm , you will see her grow and her conversion to a goddess and him finally chasing her for her love. She is definitely stronger. She takes over in mortal realm.

This was way better than the average C- drama when it came to visuals, acting and character development, esp with Jing Xiu. Best "villain" I've seen in awhile.
I watched I think 1 or 2 episodes a while before the Untamed and dropped it because I didn't want to watch another drama with a ditzy female lead. Also, the styling of the lead role man, noo makes me think he's like my Dad since they all have that Jackie Chan nose and eyes LOL. But since I trust your review, I will give it another shot.

It is very good drama. The love story is very well written. The characters progression is logically developed. Excellent acting of the actors and actresses. Specially the leading actor, I fell in love his acting as each episode goes on. His eyes, face expression are so good and well play each scene. I watch this drama again without English subtitles just because to focus more his acting ( reading subtitle distracted me).

Just finished watching this and I’m regretting not picking it up earlier. I admit I didn’t like Zhang Zhen at first (I got too used to idol faces) but his acting completely won me over (shame about his hairstyling though, I had to get used to it but he looked better with all of his hair up). I agree, they did the males so bad but I like their acting so I overlooked that. This was so similar to TMOPB but I like this one more, the supporting cast is so lovable as much as the main couple. It was so fun zeroing in on all the actor’s faces and moves. And I really really like Jing Xiu(‘s bald head), his bald head is my happy pill. I find myself comparing the main couple with Fengjiu and Dong Hua sometimes, since I feel they share some similarities, I can’t help but think the pillow book could’ve been like this.

This drama has too many political plots and was very confusing for me, because Mandarin is not my first language. I had to replay and reread the subtitle so many times. Even though Netflix did a very good sub but I just gave up. I need more romance 😅

After finishing the drama, I feel the same way about the length of this series. A bit too long... draggy at some point or toward the end. I love all the actors and actresses in this drama but I don’t think the storyline in general is memorable (there is nothing new to me) but I do like each individual story line and character developments and the acting was one of the main reason that get me going and finishing it :) Because of my preference I avoided Ten Miles Peach Blossom when I saw Yangmi as the lead. 😜 but got into this because I know CC and NiNi are good. Actually it was refreshing to have them as a couple in this drama. My favorite recalled moment is the period when Lingxi incarnated in the mortal realm. I felt bad for Jingxiu tho not because he didn’t get to live happily with the girl but for his life as a whole. He is a very smart and clever person that’s why even the part he ru mo was pretty interesting to me. I really think the stylist team did injustice to Chang Chen. If they have done a better job. The couple won’t look that off. They just made him look old with that style, haiz... I don’t understand the final arc or the idea that JiuChen went to take care of the gate by himself, lol why can’t people help him. There are so many gods there, more people are better isn’t it? Unless I missed something since my Chinese is limited and I watched it without Eng sub. Btw I love your costume and everything :)

@@Bodiso Sorry for the late reply. It's such a hard question cuz I will have to rewatch it lol. But I would suggest to continue because her time in the moral realm is pretty meaningful to watch. I don't want to give you spoiler so just want to let you know ep. 50 will be the end of the process. In my opinion the drama should end by defeated Jingxiu (of course lol the demon lord should disappeared by then) ends at ep. 56 or 57 :) but everyone has their own opinion so if you want just pick it up again at least for her experiences in the moral realm.
