@@Youafool500 Pep actually started using the inverted fullback tactic in his last season as the Barcelona manager. He started using Dani Alves more as an inverted fullback in some games.
I believe that Enzo has the exact same profile as Toni Kroos, he needs to be playing deeper and using his all-round passing ability to control the play. He just isnt a goal scoring threat at 10, which is essential for this system with the wingers holding width. When he dropped deeper after Lavia came off, he looked so much better, especially spraying progressive passes to the wings. I think that even in the big games, Enzo, Caicedo and Lavia cant all play together. It lacks a ball carrier to drive the ball up the pitch when the press is beaten and midfield presence in the box. If KDH and Neto started instead of Caicedo and Nkunku, (KDH for his defensive work rate over Nkunku as the 10) I think Chelsea would have been much more effective at moving up the pitch in the first half and attacking the box
I see Enzo as more of a left side of a midfield 3 type of player. He’s not great at covering ground or dribbling in tight spaces but his passing ability is incredible. Should be used like a Modric or Kroos at Real Madrid over the years
Agreed but my problem with when Enzo in the 8 is he requires a hell of a defence and a 6. Caicedo can not handle that without someone like Lavia backing him up and even though I don’t think the CBs were horrendous they are not at where they should be.
I agree, When Argentina Won the world cut he was the one dictating play and tempo, that’s what he wants to do that’s his instinct, he doesn’t really want to be crashing the box and all that all the time. Chelsea team planning is terrible, One of Lavia, Caicedo, or Enzo gonna have to be benched

Pep was doing this years ago. Even with Zinchenko. It's to solve teams nullifying attacks in midfield. Bernardo & Grealish aren't threats in the wings. So having Doku & Savio solves this problem & frees up space for midfielders.
Pep is a genius used a throw back formation against Liverpool, what a way to welcome your trainnee to EPL but Chelsea will bounce back in the third/four fixture.
He just adapted team for the players he had, but this well pleased for the bald guy got two natural wings that force defenders to get help allowing space in center for kdb, Bernardo and one of the most important Rico Lewis creating a situation with 6 player on offense fase
As a Chelsea fan, I thought Lavia looked much more comfortable on the ball than Enzo and Caicedo did. Very excited to watch him and hopefully he can stay healty
Night and a day to what a saw last season under poch I can actually see an identity in the team. He still needs to figure out HIS team but if we score one of those chances in the first half it’s a different game. The defence was better than I thought except the goalkeeper who’s abysmal but Romeo lavia is a stud and was the best player on the pitch. We need a striker badly I like Jackson but he’s a backup dancer let’s be real. I’m confident for the season losing to the champions day 1 isn’t the end of the world.
I do think you need to get upset if you're a Chelsea fan because it sure seems like Maresca struggles to recognize that goals don't score themselves. Maresca took a great chance converter in Nkunku and turned him into a frankly mediocre at best winger and he failed to fix that during the game. He took a freaking offensive monster in Palmer and turned him into a chance creator with no teeth and he failed utterly to fix that during the game. And while he's a bit pragmatic with Gusto's positioning, Maresca is maintaining this utterly diabolical idea that Jackson and the central midfielders have to score the goals, even though Jackson is a chance creator rather than a chance converter, and our midfielders are one and all rubbish in the final third. Look at our heatmap. How many players got touches in the box? What players were they? That's right, we didn't get into the box a lot and when we did, the player on the ball almost never ended up being Nkunku or Palmer, the two players we absolutely want to see on the ball inside the box. The only positive is that Maresca is probably moderately sharp and may just realise what a colossal mistake he's making before we've wasted 75% of the season. But these early games are going to be rough. My prediction is that we're going to see Maresca fumble like a Potter on LSD, inanely using his best players incorrectly in order to cater to a system that looked better than it was because Leicester mostly had a player advantage against the opposition. Fortunately (or unfortunately, as it may be), Chelsea has player advantage in the next few games. That will probably mean better results but it may also lead Maresca to draw false conclusions.

He will match his output only if Maresca stops tying his hands behind his back. He needs more options and he needs more freedom.
