    I believe that Enzo has the exact same profile as Toni Kroos, he needs to be playing deeper and using his all-round passing ability to control the play. He just isnt a goal scoring threat at 10, which is essential for this system with the wingers holding width. When he dropped deeper after Lavia came off, he looked so much better, especially spraying progressive passes to the wings.
    I think that even in the big games, Enzo, Caicedo and Lavia cant all play together. It lacks a ball carrier to drive the ball up the pitch when the press is beaten and midfield presence in the box. If KDH and Neto started instead of Caicedo and Nkunku, (KDH for his defensive work rate over Nkunku as the 10) I think Chelsea would have been much more effective at moving up the pitch in the first half and attacking the box

      I see Enzo as more of a left side of a midfield 3 type of player. He’s not great at covering ground or dribbling in tight spaces but his passing ability is incredible. Should be used like a Modric or Kroos at Real Madrid over the years

    • @vChilly
      @vChilly 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Agreed but my problem with when Enzo in the 8 is he requires a hell of a defence and a 6. Caicedo can not handle that without someone like Lavia backing him up and even though I don’t think the CBs were horrendous they are not at where they should be.

Their issue will be that Nicholas Jackson can’t finish to save his life, but that midfield is fantastic plus Palmer and one of Neto/Nkunku on the other side, Cucurella looks like a new player, really strong line up they just have to trim the fat of this squad to ensure they don’t end up with unhappy players

He still needs to figure out HIS team but if we score one of those chances in the first half it’s a different game. The defence was better than I thought except the goalkeeper who’s abysmal but Romeo lavia is a stud and was the best player on the pitch. We need a striker badly I like Jackson but he’s a backup dancer let’s be real. I’m confident for the season losing to the champions day 1 isn’t the end of the world.

  • @Monochromatic_Spider
    @Monochromatic_Spider 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

    I do think you need to get upset if you're a Chelsea fan because it sure seems like Maresca struggles to recognize that goals don't score themselves.
    Maresca took a great chance converter in Nkunku and turned him into a frankly mediocre at best winger and he failed to fix that during the game. He took a freaking offensive monster in Palmer and turned him into a chance creator with no teeth and he failed utterly to fix that during the game. And while he's a bit pragmatic with Gusto's positioning, Maresca is maintaining this utterly diabolical idea that Jackson and the central midfielders have to score the goals, even though Jackson is a chance creator rather than a chance converter, and our midfielders are one and all rubbish in the final third.
    Look at our heatmap. How many players got touches in the box? What players were they? That's right, we didn't get into the box a lot and when we did, the player on the ball almost never ended up being Nkunku or Palmer, the two players we absolutely want to see on the ball inside the box.
    The only positive is that Maresca is probably moderately sharp and may just realise what a colossal mistake he's making before we've wasted 75% of the season. But these early games are going to be rough. My prediction is that we're going to see Maresca fumble like a Potter on LSD, inanely using his best players incorrectly in order to cater to a system that looked better than it was because Leicester mostly had a player advantage against the opposition. Fortunately (or unfortunately, as it may be), Chelsea has player advantage in the next few games. That will probably mean better results but it may also lead Maresca to draw false conclusions.

      Nice analysis. If Chelsea are able to get good results on the next couple of games, their confidence will goes up and gain momentum. That will be important. Who knows what will happen when certain players have confidence sometimes it can transform them into doing something they can't before.

I'll have similar analysis the next time we vs city in the league, we'll find out then what EM is really made of.
      Edit: I think YounesTalksFootball in his post match review said EM saw how Poch ball challenged city last year so he didn't decide to invert and somewhat stick with Poch's starting 11 and I think it kinda worked, if we inverted we'd run into pre-season deja vu LOL

    This is the "Flying Dani Alves" tactic from the 2011-2012 season. Abidal--Pique--Mascherano back three with Busquets in front of them. Two wingers holding the width (often Isaac Cuenca that season due to injury) the two CMs and Messi as a false nine. Dani Alves doing what Rico Lewis did here to overload the right side.

      He will match his output only if Maresca stops tying his hands behind his back. He needs more options and he needs more freedom. Maresca needs to accept that and build around it, or even Palmer won't be able to make enough of a difference.

    As successful as they have been recently, Manchester City are so boring to watch. Most of these players can't play out of this system in an international game.
    The modern game is screaming for more flair.

      You shouldn't drink and bake, mate. Sterling hasn't shone a whole lot for Chelsea. It does work the other way around, though. Ake and Kovacic and Bruyne were all looking a bit mid until they put on the toddler shirts, which nicely shows the difference between making the most of what a player can do and whatever it is Chelsea's managers have been paid to do these last few years.
