John O'Shea is a legend. Denis Irwin was a versatile player until eventually settling at left-back. Phil Neville possibly played more positions than O'Shea.

Nice to see someone of my beloved little club (NEC Nijmegen) doing so well. Usually when a player of our club is showing some potential and he’s had a good season, you know he’ll be sold, because we can’t keep him. That’s the curse of supporting a small club. And it happens all the time and every year. But nothing is more frustrating than to see them leave after they had a brilliant season for us and then never hear anything from them again.

@@jj18365 It gets me excited because it shows we are targeting versatile players and more importantly a full back that can support a winger on either side. Both Amad and Rashford need an overlap. As I said, even if he isn't good enough to play in the champions league, a player who gives us a profile that we don't have is very important. Also, Yoro being an elite CB in his first season in the premier league is unlikely and will cost twice Kadioglu price. And then Zirkzee is talented but doesn't have a good smell for goal and is still a work in progress.

As long as the football rules stay the same (which I am not in favor of, but that is a different topic), I think that the football tactics will include more and more strong on ball players in the back line. Not just strong on ball in terms of passing, but the dribbling as well. Football tactics are kind of solved at the moment, that is why we saw such a large percentage of passes made in the back line for all of squads at euro. We need to make some comparisons with Futsal here, most skillful players in terms of 1v1 dribbling are played in the back/flanks, because that is where you can create an advantage since the pitch is smaller, you need to create the space between the defensive players. Football philosophy preaches that wingers should do that, BUT since athletic side of the game allowed teams to play huge amounts of players behind the ball on defense, we are seeing more and more wingers squaring their defender upon ball receival, just to see 8-9 defending players in a third zone of the field, and to make a decision to move the ball backwards. So what my guess is that in order to utilize the space between the defensive lines, more and more teams will start playing inverted dribbling backs in the future, where they can have that 1v1 vs the winger and they can start the snowball effect after dribbling past him inside the central areas of the field.
Ferdi Kadıoğlu is a great prototype of that idea.

One thing you missed about his position change is that at the start of the season, the team was set up to play with three defenders at the back. So, they didn't sign anyone to cover the traditional left and right back spots. Later, when the managerial change happened and the new manager wanted to play four at the back, they just converted Ferdi and Bright Osayi into fullbacks. Then, another manager came in and shifted Ferdi into a half-back role, like Trent or Gutierrez at Girona. Under Jorge Jesus, he became more of an inverted fullback. Another managerial change and now Ferdi is a full-on wingback. That's also how the national team coach used him. It all happened accidentally, and he's just one of the lucky ones who survived people who had no clue what to do with him.

Under the likes of Erol Bulut, Ferdi Kadıoğlu, a natural attacking player, was relegated to the bench at Fenerbahçe. His future at the club seemed uncertain. However, Vitor Pereira's appointment marked a turning point. Pereira's tactical shift to a 3-4-3 formation and his decision to convert both Ferdi and Bright Osayi-Samuel into wing-backs proved to be a masterstroke. Ferdi Kadıoğlu, in particular, thrived in this new role, showcasing his versatility and becoming a key player for the team. It's fair to say that Ferdi owes much of his development to Pereira's coaching.

Martinez is a multiplier of individual ability especially in defense. Through his direction on the field ferdi will have a better defensive record then he does with turkey or fenerbache. My only concern is then the lack of aerial cover on the left when the ball is coming to the far post from the right

Thats why Ten Hag wanted Timber when he arrived. A brilliant player for tactical purposes who can seemlessly move in and out of different positions to help with overloads who is actually comfortable doing different positions to a good standard.

Listen to me when i say thst this player is technically the best wing back in the world right now , he is ckass all over the pitch, he played as a traditional left winger as a 10 , as a wing back, he has amazing ball control hold up play passing and shooting and he will not cost you more then 40 mil.

Is he athletic enough? That’s the issue with someone coming to man united, they don’t dominate how city do so you need someone on the flanks that can cover ground (and cover for rashford)

    • @Comeatm3br0

He’s definitely quick enough and has enough stamina, his strength will probably be a little bit of an issue but he’ll make up for that with his intelligence.
